On Saturday, October 7, Operation In

As Much will take place. This one day

mission outreach to the city of

Portsmouth is sponsored by the

Portsmouth Baptist Association. There

are 255 mission volunteers from

13 churches participating. Pinecrest

has seven volunteers. Operation In As

Much will have 22 service projects, 5

yard projects, and 7 construction

projects that mission volunteers will

participate in. Please pray for this

mission outreach to Portsmouth.

As I have shared in the last two month’s

articles and have also been sharing from

the pulpit on Sunday mornings through

the sermon series entitled “Biblical

Mandate”, we have been working on a

fresh way to articulate the vision for

Pinecrest Baptist Church. We believe that

the vision of Pinecrest involves the

following three items:

Connect to Christ

Connect to Others

Connect to Ministry

This month I want to talk about the third

item: CONNECT TO MINISTRY.

Christianity is not a spectator event. I am

afraid that the modern church has adopted

that idea. The concept is foreign to the

teachings of the bible. It is clear based on

the teachings of the bible that every

Christian has been gifted in unique ways

to serve and build up the body of Christ.

Romans 12: 6 tells us “According to the

grace given to us, we have different

gifts……” In the verses that follow each

member of the body is encouraged to use

the gifts they have been given. When they

are used, what will take place?

MINISTRY will take place!!!!

Our goal at Pinecrest is to help each one

of our members discover how they have

been uniquely gifted by God, and then to

facilitate the use of their gift in MINISTRY!

May the Lord continue to bless us as we

strive to encourage more people to serve

Him!

Blessings!

Hey, everyone! I hope all is well. I've got some very good exciting news to share with you about the Student Ministry...we are going to Jamaica for an international missions trip next July! The students are very excited and are eager to serve the local community through service projects, door to door evangelism, and ministering to the elderly who so often are forgotten. Be in prayer for our students and their families as they prepare to go on this life changing trip. This is a big financial commitment for these students and families as they prepare, but we know God is going to provide!

However, if you feel led by God to not only pray but to also give financially you can do so! We appreciate all the prayers and support that we have already gotten! God is moving and is transforming these students lives. They are AMAZING! Can't wait to talk with you next month about what God is doing!

- Stephen

One day two little boys were playing, and one

asked the other, “Wouldn’t you hate to wear glasses all

the time?” The other little boy responded “NO, not if I

had the kind Grandma wears. She sees how to fix a lot

of things, and she sees lots of nice things to do on rainy

days, and she sees when folks are tired and sorry, and

what will make them feel better, and she always sees

what you meant to do even if you haven’t gotten things

just right. I asked her one day how she could see that

way all the time, and she said it was the way she learned

to look at things as she grew older. So, it must be the

glasses.” The story reminds me of how we need to look

at the things God allows us to experience each day.

“Some people complain because God put thorns on

roses, while others praise Him for putting roses among

thorns.” Do we look at things the way God wants us to

see them? “If anything is excellent or praiseworthy –

think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

We kicked off the new school year with a Back

to School Bash. A BIG Thank You to all who

volunteered to make this a fun event for the

children and their families!!!

AWANA is back and off to a great start! At

our second meeting, one of our 4th graders

prayed and asked Jesus to be his personal

Lord and Savior! The whole club rejoiced with

him! We have 5 new leaders, a new Secretary

and a lot of excited kids. It's going to be a

great year!

There is lots of excitement in Sunday School

and Kids Church as the kids Dig In Deeper

with Jesus and have fun with Bible Math!

The Children's Choir is practicing for their

Christmas Musical on Sunday's at 4. This

year, they will present their musical the

evening of December 17th with a Spaghetti

Dinner Fundraiser. Make plans to attend and

support them as they raise money for

CentriKid Camp.

Their float, “God Shed His Grace” was

selected for Norfolk's Grand Illumination

Parade this year! If your child wants to

participate in the parade and musical, they

need to be active choir members by October

1st. We will be ordering costumes that week.

I recently read an interesting article by

George Barna on the Importance of Children's

Ministry. He warns, “The church must focus

on children and children's ministry. We have

virtually lost a generation. We cannot afford

to lose another one. The stakes are high for

our kids and the future of the church.”

Research shows, the probability of a person

accepting Christ as Savior is highest between

the ages of 4 and 14.

In Mark 10:1-16, Jesus was in a house

teaching His disciples when parents started

bringing their young children to Jesus for His

blessing. Apparently it irritated the disciples

and they rebuked the parents. This greatly

displeased Jesus and made Him angry! Jesus’

response demonstrated His prioritization of

drawing children near to Him. The disciples

prioritized adult subjects rather than children

needing to be brought to Jesus!

Though we love and value our children, we

often consider them interruptions or

intrusions. There will always be matters to

discuss, but we don't have the luxury of time

to bring the little ones to Jesus. Sadly, many

churches don't realize the priority that needs

to be placed on their children's ministry, as

evidenced by their budgets and other

resources.

If children were important to Jesus, that's all

we need to know.

Then they brought little children to Him, that

He might touch them; but the disciples

rebuked those who brought them. But when

Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and

said to them, “Let the little children come to

Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the

kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you,

whoever does not receive the kingdom of

God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

And He took them up in His arms, laid His

hands on them, and blessed them. Mark

10:13-16

Blessings,

Laurie

Can you believe that fall is here? It seems like we

just welcomed summer and now it’s time to start

raking leaves. Exciting things are happening at

Pinecrest Baptist Church this month. We have

the honor to host Judgement House in the next

couple weeks. We are rusting that God will once

again use this powerful ministry and the people

involved to bring the lost to Him. Please pray for

His anointing over this ministry.

The church voted to begin a new building project

that will provide a new space for our children

and youth. These are two areas that are

experiencing growing pains and that’s a great

problem to have. The church has recognized that

and we are taking steps to give them better

resources.

A new Board of Directors was put in place

during September. We covet your prayers and

ask that you agree with us that God will

provide wisdom to everyone on the board as

we handle the business issues of the church.

The board members are as follows:

Jerry Zollars - Chairman (Member at Large),

Martha Dunn - Secretary (Director of Finance),

Mark Powell - Deacon, Elizabeth Ragsdale -

Human Recourses, Louis Bagley - Adult Sunday

School Director, Juanita Bryant - Church Clerk,

Rob Warren - Premises, Brent Trahan - Global

Missions, Reggie Hester - Sr. Pastor

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the

proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give

up” - Galatians 6:9
