Countable nouns

e.g. I eat a banana every day. I like bananas.

“Banana” is a countable noun.

We can add ‘s’ to a countable noun: „Bananas”

Countable nouns are things we can count. We can say ‘one banana’ ,‘two bananas’ etc.

Uncountable nouns

e.g. I eat a bowl of rice everyday.

I drink a bottle of milk per week.She buys a packet of tea in the market.He has a cup of coffee for breakfast.

Rice is an uncountable noun.

An uncountable noun has only one form. (rice)

•Uncountable nouns are things we can’t count: liquids (water) food (bread) Materials (iron) Ideas (anger). •We can’t put add ‘s’ to an uncountable noun. To refer to quantity we use measuring units: a kilo, a litre, a gram...

Some, any, a lot of = countable/uncountable

There are a lot of cars in Manchester.

There is a lot of pollution in the capital. Many and (a) few = countable

Are there many books in that library?

Not really, just few ones /Yeah, there are a few Much and (a) little = uncountable

Is there much honey in that jar?

No, actually there isn´t much / Yes, there is a little
