Moreau (Project Manager and Security Designer); Service Description: Security wise, the perimeter of the data center was secured by video surveillance, biometric access control and portals. Once inside the facility, biometrics are used to restrict access to sensitive areas and other areas not as sensitive have card readers. Video surveillance is placed throughout the corridors and sensitive areas to visual monitor the facility. However, one of the client’s biggest concerns was the back- loading dock as people could potentially tailgate into the data center and not only authorized personnel. Our team of engineers had to come up with an innovative solution because of the complexity of the area. Together with the security vendor we were able to customize a product that can be mounted above a door to monitor the amount of people that pass through. If more people than the number allowed go through the door an alarm would sound and security would be notified that a breach of the data center had occurred.

Type: New Construction Size: 150,000 sf and 40,000 sf of data halls

Construction Cost: $22,000,000

Personnel: E. Moreau (Project manager and Security Designer)

Service Description: To meet the client's needs of securing the data center, Eric provided security consulting and design engineering services. We took the approach of securing the assets from the inside out to the perimeter. Eric secured the data halls by using biometrics and anti-tailgating devices. In conjunction with video surveillance to provide the security operators with the best situational awareness as possible. Then we moved to the exterior of the building requiring access control on all exterior doors, to only allow authorized personnel to enter the building. All visitors need to be escorted and would only enter through the main entrance. Finally, the perimeter of the property was designed using berms and anti-climb fencing. Video surveillance was placed strategically around the property to monitor the perimeter in case of a breech. The visitor’s entrance was separate from the employee entrance to control how visitors accessed the facility. The separation begins at the entrance with a separate visitor parking that was fenced and stood off the building a minimum of fifty feet. The client had very tight requirements and we were able to adhere to the requirements with technology and physical barriers.

Contract Info Completion Date: 2016

Services Provided: Security (Video Surveillance)

Type: Security Consulting

Construction Cost: $145,000

Personnel: E. Moreau (Project manager and Security Designer)

Service Description: The client was looking for a unified video surveillance platform to manage their 600 plus video surveillance system. There were two challenges for this project that we had to overcome. First was the issue with the current cameras and their compatibility with the unified platform. A majority of the cameras Mercy had on campus were Mobotix, which did not work on all platforms. After some research we were able to find a solution that could incorporate the current cameras with the new cameras, all on the single platform. The second challenge was virtualization the video environment. We realized that the video systems did not like the way visualization tries to optimize the use of processing, so we wound up having the IT group pin the processors on the servers. This relieved the issues and the system is running per clients requirements.
