SIRE LINE

- Her Sire Johannesburg is by Hennessey by Storm Cat - The accolades on and off the track, Champion Status and Sire of Sires Status between them on the International stage is impressive. Examples are as follows:-

STORM CAT - He was a precocious 2 year old and won the Young Stakes Gr1 and ran second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile before injury sent him to stud. He bred his speed into his juveniles from the get go. He had two Group winners in a small first crop and from his second took off. That year 1992 he was voted leading Juvenile Sire in North America. He won that title a total of a further six times from 1993 - 2004.

He won the leading sires title in North America in 1999 and 2000 and was second on the same list for Europe in 2000, due to the success of his incredible racing successful son GIANT'S CAUSEWAY. He became a Champion sire after his racing career ended.

STORM CAT was awarded Leading Broodmare Sire in North America 2012-1014. He became a Champion Sire of Sires. When he died in April 2013 he had sired 35 Group 1 winners, eight champions, 108 winners of Group races, 180 stakes winners worldwide with earnings in excess of $128 million.

HENNESSEY - He passed away suddenly shuttling for Coolmore USA to Argentina in Aug 2007. By then he had sired 57 Stakes Winners, been named Leading Juvenile Sire in 2001 courtesy of juvenile sensation JOHANNESBURG and was second on the same board in 2005. Two top juveniles that he sired and also along with a number of other sires made him a sire of sires are JOHANNESBURG and HENNY HUGHES. He like his son HENNY HUGHES stood in Japan as well. He is also the sire of Seven time Group 1 winner the late great Australian Champ GRAND ARMEE.

JOHANNESBURG - He was unbeaten as a two year old winning x7 races x4 races at Group 1 level, being the Phoenix Stakes, Prix Morny, Middle Park and Breeders Cup Juvenile. This remarkable success earned him the accolade of Cartier Award for Two Year Old Champion colt. As a sire he produced precocious Champions. He like his sire did and HENNY HUGHES does, stands in Japan. He was awarded leading Two Year Old Sire in Japan. His most famous precocious Champion is SCAT DADDY. SEVENTH HEAVEN - out of outstanding race mare La Traviatta by Johannesburg. A top 4 year old filly raced by Coolmore and partners. The winner of x5 starts from x11 starts, x2 at Group 1 in the Yorkshire and Irish Oaks, 2nd in Dubai Sheema Classic, Group 1, won the Jockey Club Stakes - Group 2 on 5 June 17. She will hold Johannesburg's sire credentials and broodmare sire credentials high for many years to come. He is only 18 years old so his broodmare Dynasty is still to build.

LADY AURELIA - by Scat Daddy - 3 year old filly. A Champion on both sides of the Atlantic having won at Group 1 level convincingly in the US and on leaving home soil to take on the world in the UK at Royal Ascot last year as a two year old. She won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and the Prix Morney in France. This earned her the title of Cartier Champion Two Year Old 2016. Just a few days ago in her second UK flat season abroad after another Royal Ascot victory, she led the whole way in the Nunthorpe - Group 1 at York, to be pipped by Marsha at the post. Dettori actually thought that he had held on aboard Lady Aurelia. She will fly the Johannesburg sire of sire's flag and bloodlines for many years to come. CARAVAGGIO - by Scat Daddy. A Talented 3 year old Colt. He won six races in a row from 5f/1000m-6f/1200m from his Maiden last year to June 2017. These included x3 Group 1 races, a Group 2 and a Group 3 in Ireland and the UK. Like Scat Daddy and Johannesburg he is raced in partnership by Coolmore and has a stud career to follow.

This significant cross features through her Sire's Dam line and through her own Dam line. It crosses again through MR PROSPECTOR through her invetro foal, by ATLANTE.

DAM LINE

Matumi has a mouth watering remarkable, Internationally Stakes proven successful Dam line. Her Dam Only Wood was Group placed in France whilst her grand dam, ONLY A RUMOUR was a GROUP WINNER in France. She is progeny proven being the dam of GROUP WINNER T.E. LAWRENCE. He in turn is a half brother to Group placed Only Wood.

The family is fantastic as not only is their this top success up close in the pedigree, ONLY A RUMOUR is a half sister to another Group placed horse Take it Over.

Further back and breeding to recent times in another branch of the family one finds CHAMPIONS on this side of the world FLAMING WONDER, KINGS HIGH - winner of the Victorian Derby and VRC Australian Guineas, REGAL ARTERY, GOLDEN TWIG, Silent Smytzer, GET THE NOD and star filly of recent times ARABIAN GOLD.

Only Wood was not bred to good stallions yet produced multiple winners. WOODMAN by MR PROSPECTOR was given the title of Champion Two year old In Ireland as a race horse. He retired to stud and made an impact with top quality Champion progeny, some also became sires as well inc. European Champion 3 year old filly BOSRA SHAM, HANSEL, winner of PREAKNESS and BELMONT Stakes and title American Champion 3 year old horse and HAWK WING, Top 2 year old of Ireland and UK.

This foal represents the last chance to breed to ATLANTE as he was lost to the industry after this second season were conceived. The resulting progeny is worth so much more being from his last crop

Like NORTHERN METEOR'S early demise after producing CHAMPION ZOUSTAR, in his first crop thus making the rest of his stock very commercially viable and command great prices. Many others also raced well, ATLANTE may well do the same. So do not miss out on one of his final stock and not any but from such a fantastic Dam line as Matumi offers. ATLANTE WAS BLUE BLOODED BRED, WAS WELL CONFORMED AND PROVED HIMSELF ON THE TRACK at GROUP LEVEL. He won the NZ GUINEAS Gr1 - 1600m, won the CJC Canterbury Stakes L, - 1600m and ran 2nd at Group 2 level in Australia to Australian champ and young sire DISSIDENT in the ATC HOBARTVILLE STAKES.

Current European stars are included in the successful nick of her Invetro foal by an ill fated son of multiple Champion sire FASTNET ROCK in ATLANTE. This invetro foal has the potential on paper and on type chosen in the mating to be a racing success and top horse. The potential to be anything, even a sire with this pedigree if a colt on a successful racing career. As for broodmare, it goes without saying.

Matumi is well named being named after a tree in South Africa. Progeny may be suitably well named, Assegai, after the weapon used by the Zulu tribe of South Africa and tree of the same name, it is made from as one strong name relevant.

Last but by no means least, the quality of a horse on type and temperament is important. Top race horses have good temperaments to withstand the rigours of racing and good conformation enables better length in stride and less joint stress and chance of injury.

Matumi is well put together. She has good strong bone, a strong hind quarter, generous girth and large chest. These assets are all important to offer space for a big heart and healthy, generous set of lungs. Her length of rein is good, the longer the length of rein the more even and longer a horses stride is, which is important and in turn reduces concussion. A good sloping shoulder and matching pastern angle is a must and she also has this good attribute, along with correct leg conformation. Her top line is nicely balanced. She has a lovely head with a kind eye and is good to handle.

She will throw these conformation and temperament attributes on to her progeny. Proof is seen in the photo of her weanling filly by He's Remarkable. The weanling filly is a lovely, balanced type, with a good length of rein, good bone, girth, strong hind quarter, good head and kind eye. She looks athletic.

In addition like her dam Only Wood, she is upgrading her stock as from lesser stallions mated to she has already produced a winner. The winner, her first foal, was sold overseas for $25.000.

For Commercial value this invetro foal and any further progeny, bred to Commercial Stallions with Matumi's International successful dam line and pedigree, will appeal to the overseas buying bench. These buyers come to New Zealand's Yearling and Ready to Run Sales every year.
