Uplighting from below is the most common technique and a dramatic effect which demands attention as it reverses the daylight perspective of even light from above. Uplighting diagonally provides wider coverage in a shrub border.
Products to use: recessed uplights; spike mount spotlights
Downlighting is lighting in a downward direction from a structure to project a pool of light onto a surface or feature below or to provide general illumination for safety, task or amenity applications. It also provides contrast to uplighting of other features.
Products to use: adjustable wall/surface mounted spotlights, tree spotlights
Grazing is lighting at an acute angle from a position close to a surface to emphasise it’s texture by casting strong shadow. This applies whether the luminaire is mounted in or on the ground, or on a structure or wall
Products to use: recessed uplights; spike mount or wall/surface mount spotlights or downlights.
Silhouetting is the creation of a dark outline of an object by lighting a surface behind it. “Halo” or “backlighting” is a common misinterpretation of this; if there is no illuminated background, there is no silhouette. Backlighting produces a "halo" of light around the edges of the subject
Products to use: spike mount spotlights
Steplighting is a functional application of crosslighting and is best provided by small lights set into or mounted on a flanking wall; types with a hood will reduce glare
Products to use: recessed or surface mount steplights or surface mount downlights
Underwater lighting usually means accent lighting of a fountain, waterfall, statuary or other feature. Position an underwater spotlight 15-20cm below a water surface disturbed by a waterfall or spray so the light is continuously refracted in all directions, resulting in an attractive “shimmering” lighting effect
Products to use: underwater spotlights
Shadowing is projection of the outline of a plant or feature onto a wall behind by placing a spotlight in front of the subject to throw its shadow towards the wall. It is an easy way of exaggerating the role of a small tree in a newly planted courtyard
Products to use: adjustable spotlights
Spreadlighting uses a low-level, stem mounted luminaire with a shade on top to provide a glare-free, usually circular pool of light for a path, step, terrace or area of low planting. Hiding the light source under a shade distinguishes this from “pathlighting” using bollard lights
Products to use: spreadlights
Moonlighting is lighting down from low power lights fixed in a tree to shadow the lower branches and foliage onto the ground below. This provides a subtle, dappled lighting effect over a tree seat, lawn, patio, path, drive or border.
Products to use: tree mount spotlights or hanging downlights
Spotlighting refers to illumination where the luminaire is placed at some distance from the subject to be lit, often because there is no nearer feasible mounting position. It is accent lighting from a distance with narrower beam lamps.
Products to use: adjustable spike mount or wall/surface mount spotlights
Mirroring is achieved by accent lighting a feature on the far side of a body of water so it’s image is mirrored in the dark, still water surface from a viewpoint on the terrace or in the house. Any underwater lighting and pumped features must be switched off
Products to use: recessed uplights; spike mount spotlights
Crosslighting means placing the light source to the side of the subject so that the light beam shines across it. This applies whether the luminaire is mounted on the ground, or on a structure or tree
Products to use: adjustable spike mount, tree mount or wall/surface mount spotlights.
Washing or wall-washing is an even coverage of light on a wall to define a space or create a backdrop. Even coverage usually demands that luminaires stand away from the wall, which is what distinguishes this effect from grazing
Products to use: adjustable spike mount wide beam spotlights or floodlights
Accent lighting uses directional luminaires to emphasise individual plants or focal points so that they stand out within the view. The luminaire may be mounted in or on the ground, or on a structure or tree
Products to use: recessed uplights; spike mount or wall/surface mount spotlights or downlights.
Creative garden lighting effects
Guide to garden lighting designThis introduction to garden lighting design outlines the main principles of good design for the most common creative lighting effects, guides you to the lights which can be most effectively used to achieve these effects and recommends lamp choices appropriate to the subjects covered.
Shrub borders! adjustable spike spotlights as recessed lights become easily overgrown in borders! 12v spotlights are recommended as lamp choice is wider than 240v and wiring is more flexible and fault-tolerant with low voltage cables! Hide spotlights behind low planting at the front of the border and use one spotlight about every 3m along a border to avoid patchy lighting
0 ! Angle the spotlights at about 30 above horizontal to make the most of the beam spread and avoid “hotspots” at ground level! Take care to avoid light trespass towards adjacent buildings or streets - angle spotlights below hedge/fence line and/or use glare louvres
0 ! Light borders diagonally at about 40 facing away from the viewpoint to create shadow and depth between plants! When plants are young, use 35w halogen, 24w Powersaver halogen or 5w led lamps with 350 lumen output to avoid a “well lit fence” ! When plants have grown use 35w Powersaver halogen or 6-7w led lamps with 450-500 lumen output to cover larger or denser foliage
0 0 0 ! Use wide beam lamps 60 for overall coverage and 36 -40 lamps to accent individual specimens! Wire 12v spotlights individually from a transformer & allow 1 metre of slack cable to allow you to move lights as conditions change
Use
0Example: 35w Powersaver or 7w COB led 60 beam 0 lamps in spike spotlights aimed at 40 from the line of the
border, spaced 3m apart to avoid patchy lighting. The number of spotlights and beam angle of the lamp fitted determine coverage: the wattage of lamps fitted determines brightness within the area of coverage.

Uplighting features! Use ! 12v lights are recommended as lamp choice is wider than 240v and wiring is more flexible and fault-tolerant with low voltage cables! ”Fit” the beam angle of the lamp to the shape of the feature: 36-60 degree lamps are the most widely used to avoid “spotty” lighting! Position the spotlight, underwater light or recessed light to create some contrasting shadow but avoid excessive “hotspots” at closer range! Take care to avoid light trespass towards adjacent buildings or streets - angle lights below hedge/fence line and/or use glare louvres! Use energy-saving lamps to reduce operating temperature and achieve long life, particularly in recessed lights in “walkover” locations! 24w Powersaver halogen or 5w led lamps with 350 lumen output are equivalent to old fashioned 35w standard halogen lamps! 35w Powersaver halogen or 6-7w led lamps with 480-500 lumen output are equivalent to old fashioned 50w standard halogen lamps
adjustable spike spotlights or adjustable recessed lights where they won’t become easily overgrown
The character of a feature or statue must be interpreted sensitively and the lighting carefully placed if the subject is to be attractively illuminated. Uplighting from directly in front of a statue or focal point can produce a washed out, two dimensional effect (especially for a light coloured subject) and can project strong shadows onto the upper part of a figure from protrusions at a lower level. A source to one side highlights form and relief with contrasting light and subtle shadow for a fuller effect. Lighting from one side only can leave a statue looking curiously lop-sided, so consider crosslighting from two opposing directions with lighting of different intensities to retain the depth provided by crosslit shadow while maintaining all-round illumination. Colour is also a factor; dark bronze statues require a high lighting intensity to make them stand out, whereas the high reflectance of a white marble subject makes a lower lighting intensity necessary if it is not to be overlit. The table below shows the light beam diameter at varying distances from the light to help you “fit” the beam to the subject. It also compares the light intensity at those varying distances from the lamp: a light level lower than 10 lux is unlikely to be provide effective accent lighting against the night sky.

0If the shape of the tree fits within a 35-45 arc and has an open structure, use a 36 degree beam uplight 1-3m from the trunk (1)0For a wider spreading canopy use one or more 60 beam angle uplights 2-4m from the trunk for a fuller effect (2)
Where the outer canopy is dense and the inner structure is more open, light the trunk and outer branches with one uplight and position one or more additional uplights to illuminate the outer canopy (3)When foliage is dense, position uplights outside the canopy. ”Graze” up conifers from close to the foliage to emphasise texture (4)Use more high power lights for darker foliage, eg copper beech
The table below gives a guide to the coverage of metal halide and high power led uplighting for larger trees. As perception of brightness varies between individuals this is for general guidance only and is subject to branch & canopy structure and foliage density, colour and translucence. Look up through the tree you wish to light - if you can see through the branches, light will penetrate the canopy and structure as well. Test the position of uplights with a temporary wiring set-up before final installation
Uplighting larger trees
Uplighting trees over 5m high is best done with an energy-saving metal halide or led uplight. Metal halide lights are available in higher power ratings for uplighting the largest trees and take a short time to “warm up” to full brightness: these include Apollo bracket mount uplights, which can be spike or surface-mounted with optional mounting accessories, or Persius 35w and Olympus 70-150w recessed uplights. Titan led spotlights switch on instantly and are supplied complete with a spike mount

60 degree wide beam lamps are generally best for moonlighting unless you are accent lighting a featurePosition lights above the first layer of branches to cast their shadow onto the groundUse 20w standard halogen or wide beam 3w led lamps for the most subtle lighting effectsHigher power 24w Powersaver halogen lamps or 5w led lamps can be used for brighter lighting
Moonlighting from trees
Trees can be good lighting platforms in relation to borders, terraces, paths and seating areas. "Moonlighting" down from low power lights fixed in a tree to shadow the lower branches and foliage onto the ground below provides a subtle, dappled lighting effect over a tree seat and is also a creative way of lighting a lawn area. Use Pergolight or Moonray hanging downlights or Compact tree spotlights to direct lighting at an angle. You may like to experiment with a pale blue "moonlighting" filter to provide the cool light of the moon instead of the more golden light of a warm white lamp. Low wattage 20w - 35w lamps with wide beam angles are generally best for moonlighting unless you need brighter lighting for a particular reason. The example below shows the coverage achieve on the ground from a strap- or bracket-mounted 12v Compact spotlight

Relate lamp power to mounting height to avoid being too brightWide beam lamps are usual for downlighting areas; narrower beams are used for accent lighting of featuresUse glare louvres when lighting down onto seating areas or viewpoints240v spotlights are usually used on house walls12v downlights are preferred for ease of wiring on garden structures such as pergolas
Downlighting
Downlighting can be achieved by Compact wall downlights or hanging downlights, or from Compact adjustable wall spotlights if lighting an area or adjacent subject is required. Wall-mounted spotlights aimed at an angle from a wall project an eliptical pool of light onto the ground, light intensity decreasing further from the wall - keep the beam axis under 30 degrees from vertical to reduce glare. A rule of thumb when downlighting is to relate lamp power to mounting height to avoid being too bright - see the table below for typical applications. Wide beam lamps are usual for downlighting areas; narrower beams are used for accent lighting of features.

! Position a steplight about 20cm above the top tread and no more than 50cm above the bottom tread you wish to light.
! Use several lights to ensure all risers are directly lit and shadows don’t conceal trip hazards which could cause a fall
! Aligning lights with the gradient of the staircase keeps lighting consistent! Light from both sides of wide steps to create symmetry
Use one light every 2 or 3 steps
Steplighting
Crosslighting of steps can be achieved by Smoothie recessed or Pilot surface-mount steplights, which both have an “eyelid” hood over the light source to hide the beam from above. Medium or wide beam lamps are usual in recessed steplights unless narrower beams are used to accent light individual steps for decorative effect

Compact up&downlight combines downlighting with a decorative uplighting effect for illumination of entrances, gate pillars, pergola piers and facades. These 240v lights use mains voltage GU10 halogen, led or compact fluorescent lamps, combining the convenience of 240v installation on house walls with a compact base made possible by the absence of a bulky integral transformer. 240v compact fluorescent spotlamps combine a broad, diffuse beam with warm white light, low energy consumption and long lamp life. 240v GU10 led lamps provide low energy lighting with instant switch-on. Use Powersaver 35w halogen lamps or 7w led lamps to achieve the light output equivalent of standard 50w halogen lamps. NB: For prolonged lamp & fixture life maximum total halogen wattage in up & downlights should not exceed 70 watts. Order lamps separately.

These IP68 underwater lights are versatile, safe 12v accent lights for wet locations using an MR16 50w halogen lamp underwater or a maximum of 35w above water. They feature stainless steel screw fixings and robust construction in cast brass or 316 grade stainless steel, providing more certain location in water than lighter aluminium or plastic underwater lights. Low-energy options include long life led lamps and Powersaver energy-efficient halogen lamps: a 50w Powersaver is the equivalent of a 75w standard halogen lamp. A 6m cable facilitates ease of connection to a remote transformer without use of underwater joints. Mounting options include a base mount, spike mount and 25cm extended stem. Glare shield models are available in black powder-coated or sandblasted brass. Atlantus Brass weathers to an ochre colour to blend with stone, gravel and other landscape materials. Black models are powder-coated brass for discrete location combined with longevity and the weight for firm location in black-lined water features. 316 grade stainless steel combine style and durability in water features with decorative linings or stainless steel construction.

Modula adjustable recessed uplights
Modula is a flexible range of 12v and 240v recessed lights, available with round or square top plates with chamfered edges in 316 stainless steel or sandblasted brass, plus a round dark green model for use in lawns. Modula’s lampholder bracket is
oadjustable up to 20 from vertical for directional lighting with 12V MR16 or 240V GU10 halogen lamps up to 50 watts: Powersaver halogen lamps achieve a lower lens temperature and energy saving of over 30% - a 35w Powersaver gives the same 500 lumen light output as a 50w standard halogen lamp. MR16 clip-on lenses and filters may be fitted to the front of lamps to create alternate lighting effects, including glare control or coloured lighting. 3w-7w led lamps are recommended for energy-saving accent lighting with a low lens temperature. 13w Compact fluorescent spotlamps fit 240v models, with
0adjustability up to 10 from vertical. The housing is machined aluminium with bottom cable entry pre-wired with a 2m rubber cable. Machined grooves in the body aid cooling and house two custom “O” rings which locate the light firmly in its polycarbonate mounting sleeve or a 100mm diameter pipe, allowing for pre-wiring of locations subject to provision of suitable cable conduit. E8700 frosted lens is optional for diffused lighting effects.
12v recessed uplights require T9962 cable joint kit for connection to extended low voltage cable from a transformer. 240v lights should be connected to mains supply cable using a resin sealed underground joint.

Persius and Olympus recessed adjustable uplights combine a cool top lens, long lamp life and energy efficiency for uplighting trees in lawns or paving, maintaining a typical
0lens temperature of under 70 C - so they can be used even in walkover areas to uplight 0large trees from directly below. The lamp and 36 beam reflector assembly is mounted
0on an adjustable cradle so the beam can be tilted up to 20 from vertical to achieve the desired effect. The dark grey non-reflective interior means less light refraction through the lens to give away its position in the landscape. An upper compartment with a separate top lens is insulated by an inner second lens from heat generated in the lower compartment which houses the lamp and control gear. |

Domo and Midas spike-mount spreadlights provide a soft pool of light for the illumination of paths or steps and around the terrace, drive and lawn. A frosted glass dome protects the lamp and diffuses the light under the Midas tapered or Domo domed shade to provide low-glare lighting. Natural copper lights typically weather to a mottled brown finish and may acquire a verdigris patina over time. Weathered copper is a popular choice as it’s appearance is more natural in the garden than most other metal or painted finishes. Tunderneath to maximise light spread, typically from a 20w G4 halogen lamp or CAPLED led equivalent. The shade and dome assembly is easily removed and replaced with a screw action, so tools are not required for changing the lamp.

ELIPTA teak bollard lights use high quality wood from a sustainable source which will weather naturally in the garden; teak oil, stain or varnish treatments may be applied by the user. Teak bollard lights may be bolted to paving, slabs, an optional ground-mount installed in concrete prior to electrical installation, or an optional galvanised steel ground spike for planting and lawn areas. The diffuser is made of opal glass to hide the lamp shape and all metal parts are 316 grade stainless steel. Teak bollard lights accept E27 compact fluorescent or led lamps for driveway lighting or softer ambient lighting around garden paths, decking and terraces. For added security, Nimbus and Cirrus models feature concealed allen screw fixings for the top cap assembly: Stratus features fixings concealed under the lower angled louvre.

Powersaver halogen reflector lamps
Powersaver halogen lamps save up to 30% of the energy used by standard halogen reflector lamps, so a 35w Powersaver provides light output equivalent to a 50w standard halogen lamp. Using them instead of standard lamps also reduces the operating temperature of the light and promotes longevity of both the light and the lamp.
12v standard halogen reflector lamps may still be used where a lower brightness, lower wattage or narrow beam halogen lamp is preferred. 12v halogen reflector lamps are more efficient than 240v GU10 halogen lamps

240v GU10 halogen reflector lamps are at least a third less efficient than their 12v MR16 equivalents, there is less choice of beam angles and lamp life is shorter. 240v GU10 lights are nevertheless sometimes chosen for simplicity of installation, particularly for wall lights where a bulky integral transformer makes wall spotlights look ungainly.

Transformer mounting stakes
The Elipta standard range of surface-mount 12v weatherproof wire-wound (magnetic) transformers are resin-potted into black polycarbonate boxes, normally to be mounted on a wall or post, hidden behind planting and landscape features, under decking or in outbuildings. Each transformer has a self-resetting thermal cut-off to protect against overload, 1m mains input cable and 60cm 12v output cable for connection using separate weatherproof junction boxes (cables & connections carrying different voltages must be segregated). Both cables enter the case on the same end, allowing neat connection into junction boxes below when mounted on a post. T9599 stainless steel mounting stakes are optional.
Tip: Where multiple ground burial transformers are to be installed, allow connection points with circuit protection above ground or use multi-core supply cables to allow for isolation in the event of future fault-finding or system extension. The use of re-enterable MPGEL sealant allows undeground joints to be investigated and reinstated easily.
Ground-burial transformers are used when surface-mount transformers can't be hidden above ground, when installing Modula recessed uplights in lawns , for example. Ground-burial transformers feature a polycarbonate enclosure in which a wire-wound toroidal transformer is resin- sealed, a thermal overload cutoff and 1.5m fitted rubber cables. To avoid “wicking” of moisture into the transformer, connection to mains supply cables and multiple lighting cables must be v ia res in-sealed underground joints; connection of the output cable to the cable of a single light may be by means of a T9962 cable joint kit.
Potted 12v electronic transformers are resin-sealed to IP67 and resistant to condensation, which can affect ordinary electronic transformers used outside. They are designed for use with halogen lamps, are dimmable and especially useful where the lighting load may vary - constant voltage is maintained to avoid over-voltage and prolong lamp life. They are available as potted transformers to fit in enclosures (e.g. to make twin transformers in one enclosure), in IP65 wall-mounted black enclosures, or with resin sealant in a ground burial kit. Do not use with led lights

Potted electronic 12v dc power supplies are resin sealed to IP67 and resistant to condensation, which can affect ordinary power supplies used outside. They maintain a regulated 12v to groups of led lights, even down to just one 1w led deck light, so avoiding damage to led’s from over-voltage result ing from use of an underloaded wire-wound transformer. They are available as potted power supplies to fit in enclosures (e.g. to make twin supplies in one enclosure), in IP65 wall-mounted black enclosures or with resin sealant in a ground burial kit. Q. What is the difference between a transformer and a power supply ? A transformer provides alternating current (a.c.) output of 12 volts to power halogen lights in the Elipta range. A dc power supply provides direct current (d.c.) which is compatible with Elipta led lights: use a regulated 12v DC power supply to ensure stable voltage to a group of Elipta led lights. The power supply should be installed close to the lights as long cable runs can induce instability in led lights. For larger led installations, a 12v ac wire-wound transformer may be used provided it is loaded to at least 80% of it’s nominal rating, eg 32w on a 40va transformer. Electronic transformers should not be used with led lights and lamps.
What size of transformer do I need for halogen lights?
A frequently asked question is “how many lights can I run from one transformer”? In fact, transformers are available in a wide range of wattage ratings, so look at the question in reverse: “what size of transformer do I need to power a group of lights”? This is simply a matter of multiplying the wattage and numbers of the lamps used in the lights to be connected to the transformer, as shown in the examples. In most cases, consider some spare capacity within the transformer rating to allow scope to increase some lamp wattages as plants grow, or to allow flexibility in adding a light in the future. Use Powersaver energy saving l.e.d. lamps which use a third less power for the same light output to reduce transformer size.
! Multiply the lamp wattages for each type of light as in the examples >! Allow up to 30% spare capacity in the transformer to allow brighter
halogen lamps as plants grow, or for addition of extra lights! Transformers are available in 20, 50 or 100 watt steps, so choose
the next step up from the total wattage you have calculated! Check that the total load of halogen lights is at least two-thirds of the
transformer rating you propose to use; avoid using a big transformer with only a small load (few lights and low lamp wattages) as this can result in “overvoltage” which reduces lamp life and causes premature failure.
What size of power supply do I need for led lamps?
Look at the question in reverse: “what size of power supply do I need to power a group of led lights”? This is simply a matter of multiplying the power consumption in watts numbers of led lights or lamps to be connected to the power supply, as shown in the examples. Consider some spare capacity within the power supply rating to allow scope to add a light in the future: dc power supplies provide a regulated output voltage, avoiding “overvoltage” which causes premature l.e.d. failure
! Multiply the lamp wattages for each type of light or the led power consumption as shown in the examples (right)
! Power supplies are available in several sizes: choose the next step up from the total wattage you have calculated
! You can use a 12v wire-wound transformer, which is less expensive than a power supply, if the total load of for led lights and led lamps is at least 80% of the transformer rating you propose to use. Do not use a big transformer with only a small load as this will result in “overvoltage” and cause premature led failure
! Do not use an electronic transformer with Elipta led products! Do not use constant current led drivers with Elipta led products
Tips on transformer location and cabling! Keep cable runs from transformers to lights as short as possible to ensure optimum performance - see Help page for advice ! Locate a transformer centrally amongst a group of lights; for example, with lamps of up to 50 watts a radius of 8 metres defines
the area of coverage for spike mounted lights from one transformer. Most transformer models have a single low voltage output cable: use an exterior junction box of appropriate size alongside the transformer to connect to cables running to individual lights or groups of lights.
! If you want 2 sets of lights in an area to be operated by separate switches, you must provide a separate transformer for each group of lights and a separate mains supply to each transformer.
! If the distance from the transformer position exceeds the maximum cable length recommended for a single light, revise the transformer layout ( increasing the number of transformers to reduce the low voltage cable runs) or use thicker cable such
2 2 2 as T9910 4.0mm . To connect a light to 4.0mm cable use a T9963 cable splice kit; to connect 2 or more lights to a 4.0mmcable use an exterior junction box of appropriate size for above-ground connections or a T9969 underground joint kit.
! Use Powersaver energy-saving halogen lamps to reduce power consumption, which increases the permissable cable length! Use l.e.d. lamps instead of halogen lamps to reduce power consumption, which increases the permissable cable length & size ! If the cable run for multiple lights connected to one cable exceeds the maximum shown, divide the lights onto individual cables.! In gardens with lighting or irrigation, garden with a fork rather than a spade until you are sure there are no lighting cables or
irrigation pipes where you want to plant your new shrub!44

12v - the benefits of a low voltage system are;
! 12 volts is inherently safe.! Smaller, more discrete lights, and a wider choice of quality lights! Easy installation of cables in borders, so spotlights can be moved! A wider range of halogen lamp wattage and beam angles! A wider range of compact led lights, especially deck lights! 12v halogen lamps are brighter & whiter and last longer than 240v
equivalents (but 240v halogen lamps are good for patios)! Powersaver halogen lamps are mainly available for 12v operation ! Transformers are not difficult to hide and 12v systems can be cheaper
to install as well as more flexible in use and easier to maintain! 12v systems are more fault tolerant than 240v - less spurious tripping!
240v - the main advantages of 240 volt installations are;
! No need to use transformers! Easier installation of wall spotlights on house walls! Fewer voltage drop problems in 240 volt cables than 12v! Low energy, long life compact fluorescent lamps are 240 volt
But - all 240v cables must be armoured or protected against damage: only the last 2m can be flexible cable, which means more junction boxes and less flexibility. Systems comprising 240v lights are more prone to tripping circuit breakers when damp or lamps blow
What length of cable can I use from the transformer to a light?
“Cable voltage drop” occurs in all electric cables, but in a 12 volt garden lighting system care must be taken to limit this to avoid loss of light output resulting from voltage reduction at the lamp. Some manufacturers recommend a maximum of 1 volt drop, but this would result in a loss of 30% of the rated light output of a halogen lamp - a 50 watt lamp would only give 35 watts worth of light (see graph right). The loss of voltage is higher the longer the cable run and the higher the lamp wattage. To limit loss of light output, keep cable voltage drop to under 5% (0.6 volt in a 12 volt system) by sticking to shorter cable runs wherever possible. The table below gives the maximum length of cable run for typical garden lighting wiring requirements for halogen lamps - stick to these cable lengths to get full brightness from your system.

Can I run longer cables to led lights (light emitting diodes)? Yes - led’s consume a lot less power than incandescent lamps and are generally less sensitive to small voltage reductions, so cable runs can also be a lot longer. But do remember that groups of high power led lights such as MR16 6w or 7w led lamps collectively take quite a lot of power, so it is often best to follow guidance for an equivalent wattage of halogen lights for these models. The table below gives suggested maximum cable runs for 12v ac constant voltage installation. 1.5 ground burial low voltage cable will be adequate for most led installations and is available in 25m (T9919) and 50m (T9918) packs. Stick to ground burial cable even under decks as there is no such thing as a dry location in most gardens and this tough rubber cable is resistant to garden chemicals, ultraviolet light and cleaning fluids as well as damp.

led products in this catalogue are for parallel wiring from a 12v constant voltage supply, not constant current supply. Use of an incorrect power supply can damage led lights and invalidate the warranty. Wire wound (magnetic) surface-mount or ground burial transformers or ground burial toroidal transformer kits are recommended: do not use electronic transformers with 12v led lights as interaction of the two products along long cables can produce unstable lighting
