Swim School

On Friday, we had a visit from a whole class from Gunnedah High School. These students joined in our sport activities with the primary kids and went into infants classes to assist with literacy tasks such as reading, writing and sight words. A big thank you to Mrs Streater, Mrs Ash Poole (GHS) and Mrs Simone Brady (GHS) who facilitated this visit.

Parent Teacher meetingsPlease ensure that you have returned your note with preferred times to meet with your child/children’s teacher/s. It is so important that the discussion between parents, teachers and students take place to ensure that everyone is fully aware of progress and future directions. The parent teacher meetings will start next week and run for two weeks.Parent VolunteersPlease remember that if you would like to come to the school and volunteer as a reader, gardener, cook or breaky club helper, you are always welcome. Parent volunteers are so important within a school for a number of reasons. One of those is that the students love to see parents in the classroom helping. It gives them a sense that everyone is on the same page and that education is held in high esteem. We have wonderful volunteers from the Anglican Church who tirelessly give up their time to provide a breaky club service for our students. It would be fantastic to see some parents also helping with breaky club. If you feel you could spare some time between 8am and 9am on a Tuesday and Thursday morning to help this worthwhile cause, please contact the school.Len Walters VisitLen Walters visited with our Aboriginal Education team yesterday to talk about the ways we can embed more Aboriginal culture within our school, both in the classrooms and in the playground. He and the team have come up with some wonderful ideas, so stay tuned for changes.New Families Morning TeaYesterday, the P&C put on a morning tea in the park to welcome all our new families. This was a wonderful idea and well received by our families, as many have just moved to town and are unaware of what is around and happening in our little school and wonderful town. It was also fantastic to see that many of these new families are interested in volunteering in the school and becoming active members of the P&C. Well done to all and what a wonderful morning it was.Mrs Cathie McMaster, Principal

Busy Times AheadPlease be aware that throughout the next few weeks there is a great deal happening within our school. We have parent teacher meetings, guest speakers, Bush to Beach visits, Year 6 farewell, Year 5 captains speeches, Kindergarten orientation and Early Birds graduation and presentation day, just to name a few. As a school community we need to look after each other, be kind and respectful toward others and help when we can. Mrs Cathie McMaster, Principal

In 1/2A the students have been developing their critical thinking skills by working out “brain teaser” puzzles. The students have had to solve problems using paddle pop sticks. It has been very interesting to see how their brains work.We have also studied the text “The Scarecrow’s Wedding” by Julia Donaldson (author of the Gruffalo). The students have completed some great writing about aspects of the text, and also completed some scarecrow craft to go along with it.A big thank you to all the parents who came to support their children for our performance last Friday. Although our body percussion piece didn’t quite go to plan, it was great to see you all there.Mrs Peta Anderson, Class Teacher
