Page 2: Quadrilaterals

Quadrilateral• A quadrilateral is a

four-side polygon.

Page 3: Quadrilaterals

Special Quadrilaterals• Parallelogram

• Rectangle

• Rhombus

• Square

• Trapezoid

Page 4: Quadrilaterals

Parallelogram• Both pairs of opposite sides

are parallel and congruent. Both pairs of opposite angels are congruent.

Page 5: Quadrilaterals

Rectangle• Parallelogram with four right

angles.

Page 6: Quadrilaterals

Rhombus• Parallelogram with four

congruent sides

Page 7: Quadrilaterals

Square• Parallelogram with four

congruent sides and four right angles.

Page 8: Quadrilaterals

Trapezoid• Exactly one pair of opposite

sides is parallel.

Classifying Quadrilaterals• Quadrilaterals can have more

than one name because the special quadrilaterals sometimes share properties.

• The best name is the one that is the most specific.

Try This!• Give all the names that apply to each

quadrilateral. Then give the name that best describes it.

Try This!• Give all the names that apply to each

quadrilateral. Then give the name that best describes it.

• The figures has opposite sides that are parallel so it is a parallelogram.

• The figures has four right angles, so it is a rectangle.

• Rectangle is more specific so it is the best name.

quadrilateral. Then give the name that best describes it.

• The figures has exactly one pair of opposite sides that is parallel, so it is a trapezoid..

• Trapezoid is the name that best describes this quadrilateral.
