Hampton, assistant vice president of the New York Tele phone Company in charge of staff engineering matters, was elected vice president and general manager of the Company's Long Island area at a meeting of the Board of Direc tors yesterday. The move will be effective June 1. Mr. Hampton succeeds A. G. Wright, head of the Long Island area, who has reached retirement age under Company plan. Mr. Wright will have completed over 42 years of telephone service cul minated by 10 years as the execu tive head of the telephone organiza tion on Long Island where he has been active in many civic affairs. At the same meeting, the Board elected Kennedy Woody, assistant vice president of the American Tele phone and Telegraph Company charge of advertising, as vice p ru dent-public relations, effective May 1, 1950. W. G. Hampton, assistant vice president of the New York Tele­phone Company in charge of staff engineering matters, was elected vice president and general manager of the Company's Long Island area at a meeting of the Board of Direc­tors yesterday.

The move will be effective June 1. Mr. Hampton succeeds A. G. Wright, head of the Long Island area, who has reached retirement age under Company plan. Mr. Wright will have completed over 42 years of telephone service cul­minated by 10 years as the execu­tive head of the telephone organiza­tion on Long Island where he has been active in many civic affairs.

At the same meeting, the Board elected Kennedy Woody, assistant vice president of the American Tele­phone and Telegraph Company charge of advertising, as vice p r u ­dent-public relations, effective May 1, 1950. He succeeds Wellington Powell, who becomes vice president and general manager of the Manhat-
