QT ASSIGNMENT Problem 1.2 A firm makes two types of furniture, chair and tables. The contribution for each product as calculated by the accounting department is Rs. 20 per chair and Rs. 30 per table both products are processed on three machine M 1 , M 2 and M 3. The time required by each product and total time available per week on each machine are as follows : Machine Chair Table Available hours M1 3 3 36 M2 5 2 50 M3 2 6 60 How should the manufacturer schedule his production in order to maximize contribution? Solution Step 1 – Decision variables are x 1 , x 2, x 1 for chair and x 2 for table. Step 2 – The objective is to maximize the profit Step 3 – Objective equation is – Z = 20 x 1 + 30 x 2 Step 4 – Constraint – 3x 1 + 3x 2 <= 36 5x 1 + 2x 2 <= 50 2x 1 +6x 2 <= 60 x 1 , x 2 >= 0 (Non-negativity constraint) Machine Chair Table Available hours M1 3 3 36 M2 5 2 50

Problem 1.2

A firm makes two types of furniture, chair and tables. The contribution for each product as calculated by the accounting department is Rs. 20 per chair and Rs. 30 per table both products are processed on three machine M1, M2 and M3. The time required by each product and total time available per week on each machine are as follows :Machine Chair Table Available hoursM1 3 3 36M2 5 2 50M3 2 6 60

How should the manufacturer schedule his production in order to maximize contribution?

Solution

Step 1 – Decision variables are x1, x2, x1 for chair and x2 for table.

Step 2 – The objective is to maximize the profit

Step 3 – Objective equation is – Z = 20 x1 + 30 x2

Step 4 – Constraint – 3x1 + 3x2 <= 36 5x1 + 2x2 <= 50 2x1 +6x2 <= 60 x1, x2 >= 0 (Non-negativity constraint)Machine Chair Table Available hoursM1 3 3 36M2 5 2 50M3 2 6 60
