Here We Grow Again!
We recently opened our 8th store in La-
fayette, Indiana. For many years we
have serviced schools in that area from
our Valparaiso location. To improve
service to our customers in the Lafayette
region, the new store is located at 1301
Sagamore Parkway North. Pictured be-
low is QF Rep, Steve Rehlander who
visits many of the schools in that area on
a weekly basis.
The store features an excellent selection
of rental instrument and an impressive
inventory of Intermediate and Perform-
ance level B&O instruments, many of
which are available on our First Chair
and Opus 24 plans. In addition, you’ll
find a nice complement of accessories
and print music for band and orchestra
students, teachers, and directors.

Bridging the Gap
George Quinlan, Jr
For the last several years, I have had the
opportunity to serve on a very special
board, the Music Achievement Council.
The council was established several
decades ago as a joint project between
instrument manufacturers, publishers,
retailers, and NAMM. Consulting with
leading educators, the Council has pro-
vided tools to assist in recruiting and
retaining instrumental music students.
The “Practical Guide to Recruiting &
Retention” and “First Performance”
tools have been a staple for most school
districts for decades.
A few years ago, a focus group of select
B&O directors from the area was
formed to evaluate and probe deeper
into the retention area. Thanks to Glen
Schneider, Bryan Ames, Rita Feuer-
born, Lori Lauff & Bryan Itzkowitz
for serving on this panel and to Marcia
Neel who interviewed countless band &
orchestra direc-
tors to harvest
the “best prac-
tices” to retain
these students.
As a result, the
newest publica-
tion “Bridging
the Gap be-
tween Middle
School and
High School” is
now available. And...the best part? It’s
FREE for downloading by visiting:

achievement-council/downloads
