The Parenting Journey Ths is a 12-session group curriculum designed for parents who want to learn more about themselves, their relationships and the resources they need to e˜ectively parent their children. The curriculum engages parents in a dynamic partnership with other parents and family services professionals. The program helps parents discover the inner strength and life skills they already possess which supports better parenting and has the power to transform families.

Prenatal Classes Provides mothers-to-be with the resources they need to give their newborns a good, strong start in life by providing parenting skills classes in English and Spanish, touching on topics such as breastfeeding and bottle feeding, budgeting, self-care, developmental milestones and healthcare. Other services include case management and assistance with limited supplies for the baby after the completion of an intake appointment and 3 or more parenting classes, participants will also be eligible to receive a free crib.

Incredible Years Parents Programs These programs help parents meet the social and emotional needs of young children. The evidence-based parenting programs focus on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children’s lives to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills and reduce conduct problems. Parenting programs o˜ered:

• Parents and Babies program (0-12 months) and • Toddlers Basis Program (1-3 years old)

Breastfeeding Workshops Learn about the importance of breastfeeding, how to breastfeed and overcoming challenges. Each registered pregnant woman will receive gift cards, Metrocards, a Pack N’ Play and refreshments.

Club Momme Meet other moms at this monthly meeting. Get answers to breastfeeding questions, baby care and enjoy refreshments.

The Incredible Years: Baby And Toddler Programs This program promotes e˜ective parenting practices and strategies that strengthen your child’s social / emotional competence & problem-solving skills, while reducing aggression at home and at school.

Parenting Skill Workshops: Baby (0-12 months) & Toddler Program (1-3 years) Both programs are evidence-based, promoting positive, e˜ective, research-proven (and developmentally age-appropriate) parenting practices / stragegies known to promote children’s social competence, emotional regulation and academic skills. They also focus on reducing behavior problems both at home and at school. These programs address multiple risk factors across home and social settings known to be related to the development of conduct disorders in children.

The 9-week Toddler Program and the 9-week Baby Programs are both a combination of videotape vignettes, role playing, group discussions and home assignments. Additionally, these programs have been approved by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).

Greater Harlem Healthy Start (GHHS) GHHS o˜ers case management, health education and other services for pregnant and parenting women & men, as well as infants up to 2 years old. The goal of Healthy Start is to support families in raising a healthy baby and reducing infant mortality / morbidity. This program assists with advocacy and prenatal care access, as well as safe sleep and parenting education. In addition, GHHS facilitates referrals for housing, public assistance, WIC, counseling, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and other health education, home visits and escorts to health and social services appointments. Within Healthy Start is the Thrive! Project. This project o˜ers nutrition counseling / education, physical activity, and health and wellness interventions (e.g. wellness coaching and peer support groups) that e˜ectively reduce the incidence of obesity and improve future pregnancy outcomes among women.

Northern Manhattan Head Start/Pre-K This program serves preschool children ages 3 to 5 in a center-based setting. The primary goal is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other related services to enrolled children and their families. Additionally, Head Start provides:

• Full-Day Program, fve days per week • Comprehensive evaluation services for children with special needs

• Nutritious breakfast, lunch & snacks • Educational dance & visual arts

• Developmentally-appropriate curriculum • Enhanced language support

• Certifed teachers

Healthy Families Central Harlem (Formerly Baby Steps) Healthy Families Central Harlem is a voluntary, primary prevention home visiting program providing intensive home visiting services to new / expectant parents and their families residing in Central Harlem. The goal of this program is to prevent child abuse and neglect through the promotion of child health and development, positive parent-child interaction and family self -suÿciency. Services are provided to those who are pregnant or have a baby under three months old.

Maternal & Infant Community Health Collaborative (MICHC) This project focuses on increasing access to prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant and parenting women who reside in the Northern Manhattan community. This program also incorporates the Thrive! project, which o˜ers nutrition counseling / education, physical activity, and health and wellness interventions (e.g. wellness coaching and peer support groups) that e˜ectively reduce the incidence of obesity and improve future pregnancy outcomes among women.

Maternal Intentions This program is funded by Merck for Mothers and seeks to reduce maternal mortality throughout Harlem. Maternal Intentions sta˜ work individually (in one-on-one sessions) and in group settings to help women manage their chronic conditions, adopt healthier behaviors, plan for their future, and transform their lives.
