2017 Queensland Restricted Rinks
The 2017 Annual Queensland Restricted Rinks was hosted by Dalby Association. A total of 13 associations nominated from around Queensland:
Callide Valley, South Burnett, Nambour, Caloundra, Brisbane, Ipswich, Redcliff, Chinchilla, Darling Downs, Fassifern, Pittsworth, Toowoomba and Dalby.
With the outside temperature up around the mid to high 30’s. All players and spectators where very thankful for the designated playing area being air conditioned. After countless amounts of water consumed and some unbelieve able shots played. The finals came down to four outstanding teams.
Consolation Rinks Final was between Redcliff and Pittsworth.
Open Rinks Final was between Caloundra and Brisbane.
At the end of each game there had to be a winner and Congratulations and Queensland Restricted Rinks Champions for 2017:
Open Rinks Winners - BRISBANE IBA.
Open Rinks Runners up – Caloundra IBA
Consolations Rinks Winners – Pittsworth IBA
Consolation Rinks Runners up – Redcliff IBA

Gala Weekend
The first Gala Weekend was held in Caloundra, with the first event being the
Pairs. Thank you to everybody that played, and the extras that filled in -
especially Lachlan, who didn't want to play the Pairs, but did extremely well. In
the end I had to fill in as well as we had people pull out, that's the way it goes,
thank fully we still had an even number of pairs. We had 79 entries for the
pairs, after pull outs and fill ins we still were lucky enough to have an even
number of teams. (Apologies for any names spelt incorrectly!) Thank you to
Caloundra’s Member of Parliament Mark McCardle and his wife Judy for
assisting with presentations.
The First round winners (this was decided by score),
David Blyth and Barba Tuominen.
Round Two with a big margin over anybody else,
John Norton and Pat Wanka.

Third round
David Blyth (again) and Jenny Cruikshank. Fortunately for David, playing with Jenny kept him in first spot as she was just behind him on the board. We were lucky enough in all rounds of the Pairs or Rinks that there was never any countback for round winners! The winners 1st through 10th:
1st David Blyth 2nd Jenny Cruikshank

3rd Fran Thomas 4th Pat Wanka
5th Carmel Blyth 6th Del Gruhl
7th Pat Foley 8th John Tuominen

9th Deanne Amarant 10th Nelson Thomas
In the Rinks we had 104 entries which. This day I was able to stay out of
playing which allowed me to calculate the scores between games.
Round 1
Mel Smith, Janet Stockel, Deanne Amarant and Jack Barnes.

Round 2
Jody Moore, Lachlan Moore, Sheree Lowry and Cyril Griffiths.
Round 3

I want to thank everybody for their assistance. The first day was a bit of a
mess (to start with) just working out how to run the competition in the right
way. I believe it got smoother as the weekend went on, so I must thank
everybody that helped and assisted with everything.
I do have one request - please do NOT crowed the desk where the draws
are. There are enough numbers for everybody and its random - whether you
get your name first or last it’s not going to change anything - so for next year -
please hold back until your called and form a line - it’s all moves much
smoother that way.
Issue 126 Queensland Indoor Bowler’s Ideas, Letters & Opinions. Page 14
Calling skips for the rinks seemed to make things MUCH smoother also as it
stopped the confusion as to who was first skip or second - again my apologies
for not making the list on the wall clearer which confirmed positions.
There were some comments from some people about being put in certain
positions. When the draw was done, I put players where I thought they would
be best - and I stick by that. I apologies to those that disagree but I believe
everybody played in the right positions. The people that nominated a lead or
skip though were given those positions. So just remember for next year -
nominate your position if you want to be a lead or skip. Just to clarify - I didn't
hear complaints just comments that people were surprised they were skipping.
I am going to try to write reports for events as it was brought up to me that
that is preferred over just hearing who won and lost so I will keep working on
that. But please let me know what you want to know? Is there anything
specifically you would like noted? Please let me know on [email protected]
Thanks again to everybody that assisted over the Gala Weekend, I would like to
think it was a success even with a few points to be worked on.
Good luck to those playing the May State titles and those going to Sydney in
May to take on New Zealand.

We held our Medley Day Sunday 26th March. 18 Teams took part and
everyone who attended had a good day with a great BBQ Lunch that was
cooked by Carmel Blyth and all her helpers and all members who assisted on
the day also. Thanks for all your work it was most appreciated.
It was a close finish in the end with the winning team of Nelson Thomas, David
Stoker, Fran Thomas and George Napper. There were 3 teams’ ties for second
place and after a countback second place won by Kyle French, Jody Moore,
Elise Dunstan and Lachlan Moore. Third place was won by local team of David
Blyth, Glenda Wilkinson, Holly Blyth and Margaret Wymer. We would like to
thank all of our members and those players who travelled to support our day.
We would like to wish Carmel and David Blyth, Kyle French and Hadyn Weir,
who are represent Australia against New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman Test
Match in Sydney from the 15th to 20th May, Good Bowling.

PRESIDENTS PONDERINGS
Wow it is hard to believe that 4 months have already passed and our May State Championships are upon us. Let me go back. February saw our Annual General Meeting. My two junior Vice Presidents did not go for re-election of their positions. I would like to thank Justin Weir and Don Smith for their input and contribution to our committee for their terms. Even though at times it was a rocky trip I think we have come forward in certain areas and I hope to continue to do so. With these positions vacant, I gained two new junior Vice Presidents. Kyle French stepped up from Publicity Officer and then the election of Philip Lowry to the committee. I look forward to working with these two young men and can’t wait to see what ideas they bring to the table at our meetings. With Kyle as my Junior Vice I then needed a Publicity Officer and Sheree Lowry put her hand up for this role. This is not an easy task as she has to rely heavily on information coming from all Associations and Clubs for her to do her job properly. Also information from Sub Committees and COM, yes you guys can put information in the QIBILO also. This way all our members are informed with what’s happening. If a member wishes to write something, they too can do so, just send it through to our publicity officer. Just remember Sheree does have the right censor all information received.
In February, the squad for the Queensland Team going to Devonport Tasmania was announced. Congratulations to those members who are in the squad. We are always looking for new members for the team. If you want more information on the requirements for selection to the team, speak to Glenn Casey Chairman of Selectors or any of the other selectors or if you wish any of the COM can answer your questions. The final team I believe will be announced by mid-June.
March, what a month. The inaugural Gala Weekend was held. What a big weekend of bowls. Nominations for the event were awesome. Pairs on the Saturday with 106 nominations and Sunday’s Rinks receiving 134 nominations. What a fantastic effort. A big Thank You to Caloundra Association for hosting us that weekend. As this was the first event like this we have held there were a few hiccups but as the day went on, we slowly started to iron them out on Saturday and improved a little more on the Sunday. We would like those who participated to provide some feedback to us from that weekend. Thoughts and any ideas you think might help us improve the running of the event if it is held again. Would you want to us run this event every year? Write in or email us with your thoughts.

By the time you read this, the May State Championships would have been played. It was great to see all those Junior nominate for the Pairs and the Singles. A few more Girls would be great. I would like to wish everyone good bowling for the Championships.
On Sunday 14th May, 4 of our members, Kyle French, Hadyn Weir, David Blyth and I, are travelling to Sydney to represent Australia in the Trans-Tasman Test Match against New Zealand. Kyle and Hadyn in the Men’s Triples and Fours. David and I in the 8 bowl Mixed Pairs and mixed Fours. Practice is on the Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th. Wednesday 17th practice and team photos. Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20th the battle is on, competition days. I know our members will go down there and give it all they have got. So watch out New Zealand, here come the Queenslanders!
Until next time. Good Bowling to all.
President

Finally I would like to wish Carmel, David, Kyle and Hadyn all
the best at the Trans-Tasman Test match in Sydney in a
couple of weeks. All of Queensland knows that you all will be
doing Queensland very proud. Good Luck to the rest of the
members in the Australian Team. Bring home lots of gold and
the Trans-Tasman trophy.
