QA-69 William Wilson House c. 1790-1820 Ingleside Site
The William Wilson house site is noted because of the small vernacular dwelling which stood on the property until 1933. The 1 1/2 story "hall-parlor" plan house was typical of the smaller houses of the Eastern Shore, many of which remain incorporated into larger buildings. The closest parallels to similar standing houses are the dwellings of the Neck District of Dorchester County.

DESCRIBE THE PRESENT AND ORIGINAL (IF KNOWN) PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
The William Wilson House, located on the east
side of Maryland Rt. 305, south of Maryland Rt. 19
in Ingleside, was a 1 1/2 story frame structure dating
from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It
was a small vernacular structure composed of a 3-bay
1 1/2 story section with an attached 2-bay 1 1/2 story
structure, slightly lower, and more recently a third
addition of undetermined size and form. The house
had burned in either late 1982 or early 1983 and
as of this date (May 1983) nothing remains other than
the vacant chimney.
From memory, the taller portion of the house was
composed of a hall and parlor plan, with the central
door opening into the "hall". These two rooms had
had their board partition mostly removed, creating a
large space from the two small rooms. The winder
stair ascended in the northeast corner of the hall and
was typical in that there were about two or three
steps to a paneled door. Beneath the stair was another
paneled door opening into a closet. The fireplace
had a plain surround with integral mantel shelf.
There was no cupboard on the other side of the fire
place, but only a recess.

on the gable.
No other details are in the memory of the surveyor.
