How did you a*ract and address your target audience? Front Cover: I a$racted the target audience to my magazine by including ar5sts that fit into the subgenres that I know that my target audience enjoy listening too. I used a specific colour scheme and layout throughout my magazine which I thought would a$ract the audience that I wanted, based on the colour schemes used in similar music magazines and the informa5on that I collected on colour schemes from my target audience when carrying out my research. Also, it is clear that the ar5st here is of the same age group as my target audience and this is likely to a$ract them because they will be able to relate to the ar5st more than someone of a different genera5on. In my music magazine, I used direct address by using pronouns such as “you” to break the barrier between the editor and reader. I addressed the reader like this because of their age group; I felt this would a$ract the target audience more as they would prefer the relaxed language. The ar5st in the main image on my front page is dressed in a style that is related to the Alterna5ve genre which is likely to a$ract my target audience as they will see this and know what genre the magazine focuses on. To a$ract the target audience, I included features that they said they most wanted to see in a new music magazine when I surveyed them. I believed that this would a$ract them to my magazine more than one without their favourite features. As my magazine is aimed at middle class young adults between the ages of 1624, I addressed this group by pricing my magazine at £2.00. I felt that this was the right price to sell my magazine at as this is a suitable price for the social class and current unemployment situa5on of lots of my target audience. The target audience would be a$racted to this cover mount as they are very interested in music, and geNng free music of their favourite ar5sts will interest them. Also, one of the features that my audience said they liked to see was posters, so therefore this is likely to a$ract them too. As technology is increasingly becoming a huge part in media, and my audience is 1624 year olds (the predominate users of the internet) I have addressed the target audience by including a website for my music magazine. I believed that this would be a good feature to use on my front cover, as they may visit the website because it is easy for them to access.

How  did  you  a*ract  and  address  your  target  audience?

I  a$racted  the  target  audience  to  my  magazine  by  including  ar5sts  that  fit  into  the  sub-‐genres  that  I

know  that  my  target  audience  enjoy  listening  too.

I  used  a  specific  colour  scheme  and  layout  throughout  my  magazine  which  I  thought  would  a$ract  the  audience  that  I  wanted,  based  on  the

colour  schemes  used  in  similar  music  magazines  and  the  informa5on  that  I  collected  on  colour  schemes  from  my  target  audience  when

carrying  out  my  research.

Also,  it  is  clear  that  the  ar5st  here  is  of  the  same  age  group  as  my  target  audience  and  this  is  likely  to  a$ract  them  because  they  will  be  able  to

relate  to  the  ar5st  more  than  someone  of  a  different  genera5on.

The  ar5st  in  the  main  image  on  my  front  page  is  dressed  in  a  style  that  is  related  to  the  Alterna5ve  genre  which  is  likely  to

a$ract  my  target  audience  as  they  will  see  this  and  know  what  genre  the  magazine  focuses  on.

As  my  magazine  is  aimed  at  middle  class  young  adults  between  the  ages  of  16-‐24,  I  addressed  this

group  by  pricing  my  magazine  at  £2.00.  I  felt  that  this  was  the  right  price  to  sell  my  magazine  at  as  this

is  a  suitable  price  for  the  social  class  and  current  unemployment

situa5on  of  lots  of  my  target  audience.

As  technology  is  increasingly  becoming  a  huge  part  in  media,  and  my  audience  is  16-‐24  year  olds  (the  predominate  users  of  the  internet)  I  have  addressed  the  target  audience  by  including  a  website  for  my  music  magazine.  I  believed  that  this  would  be  a  good  feature  to  use  on  my  front  cover,  as  they  may  visit  the  website  because  it  is  easy  for  them  to  access.

By  using  an  informal  register  and  directly  addressing  the  target  audience  through  personal  pronouns  such  as  “you”  in  the

editors  note,  I  have  addressed  the  audience  based  on  their  age  group,  as  being  a  member  of  this  target  audience  myself,  I

knew  that  they  would  like  to  be  addressed  through  more  of  a  relaxed  tone  than  a  serious  tone.

Also,  I  a$racted  the  target  audience  on  the  contents  page  by  placing  some  of  the  ar5sts  that  they  said  they  wanted  to  see  in  my  music  magazine  (when  I  carried  out  a  ques5onnaire  in  my  research  and  planning)  directly  underneath  the  contents  banner.  I  did  this  so  they  would  be  one  of  the  first  things  they  see  on  this  page,  and  therefore  they  would  be  more  a$racted  to  this  page.

Another  way  that  I  have  a$racted  the  target  audience  was  through  the  main  ar5cle.

The  majority  of  the  target  audience  said  that  they

preferred  seeing  interviews  with  new  ar5sts  than  other

op5ons  as  main  double  page  spread  ar5cles.

I  also  addressed  the  target  audience  by  including  other  features  that  were  popular

amongst  them.  By  including  these  features,  I  believed  that  the  target

audience  would  be  more  interested  in  my  magazine  as  they

would  see  the  aspects  of  music  magazines  that  they  most  enjoy.

I  addressed  the  target  audience  of  my  music  magazine  by  including  compe55ons  that  I  knew  was  likely  to  a$ract  them.  As  nowadays  music  is  a  very  important  aspect  in  many  young  adults  lives,  and  many  16-‐24  year  olds  are  involved  in  music  acts,  therefore  I  decided  that  I  would  include  this  feature  as  this  could  a$ract  many  of  them  and  address  other  young  adults  who  are  considering  being  involved  in  music.

I  a$racted  the  target  audience  here  by  using  a  colour  scheme  that  they  said  they  expected  to  see  in  a  music  magazine  of  this  genre.  Reds  and  blacks  were  some  of  the  most  popular  colours  suggested  by  the  audience,  so  I  felt  that  these  needed  to  be  oTen  included  in  my  music  magazine.

Double  Page  Spread:

I  addressed  the  target  audience  on  the  double  page  spread  by  including  an  ar5st  who  has  the  same  style  that  is  associated  with  alterna5ve  rock.  Also,  she  is  of  the  same  age  group  as  the  audience  are  so  therefore  they  will  feel  more  related  to  the  ar5st,  as  she  will  be  of  a  very  similar  age,  style  and  background  as  them.

Again,  I  included  the  same  colour  scheme  here  as  I  have  throughout  the  other  pages  of  my  magazine.  I  did  this  because  I  knew

it  was  a  simple  way  to  a$ract  the  audience  as  it  was  what  they  said  they  would  expect

and  prefer  to  see.

In  the  interview  itself,  I  have  addressed  the  audience  by  using  informal  language  to  give  the  ar5cle  a  more  friendly  tone  to  it;  due  to  the  age  of  the  target  audience,  they  are  most  likely  to

enjoy  reading  an  ar5cle  that  includes  relaxed  language.

Also,  a  main  focus  of  the  interview  is  that  Ellie  is  a  student  who  has  achieved  a  career  in  music.  I  thought  that  this  would  both  a$ract  and  address  the  audience  as  the  majority  of  16-‐24  year  olds  are  students,  and  would  be  able  to  relate  to  the  ar5st  again  as  she  shows  aspects  of  their  own  lives.
