Our Target AudienceAudience profiling can be split into two different broad categories:

1) Demographic profiling2) Psychographic profiling

Demographic profiling ,groups the audience into smaller groups based on variables such as age, gender, geographical area, class, economics, religion, sexuality etc. This method groups people according to the lives they lead or their social or economic status. We define target audience's using 'GRASS' Gender, race, age, social status, our target audience was :

G- FemaleR- All RacesA- 14-25S - C1-E

Psychographic profiling assumes the audience to be complex and to have certain needs which must be gratified. Adverts thus aim to appeal to the audiences' emotions and psychological needs. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs clearly addresses audience segmentation along these lines. According to Young and Rubicam's Cross-cultural Consumer Characteristics, there are four categories of audience: 1) Mainstreamers, who are 40% of the market2) Aspirers, people who're motivated by status3) Succeeders, people who've already climbed the ladder and want to keep control of what they have.4) Reformers, the group who want the world to be a better place.

Our target audience are Mainstreamers as the music we are using is from the R&B genre which is mainstream chart music therefore it will appeal to 40% of the market.

Maslows Higherarcy of needs shows what us human’s need starts from the basics at the bottom to the thing which are not as important but we still want eg: creative thing’s

After we finished our music video we created a questionnaire, which we gave to a group of people who had watched our video.

We recorded the feedback we got, below is the link to it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0wr2Tqv0FE

After getting our feedback we decided to put all the questionnaire results together, to help us understand whether our music video worked well or not and what improvements where needed.

The next few slides have the questions we asked in our questionnaire and the feedback gathered from it

Do you think this follows the music genre conventions?

Our Music video follows the music genre conventions as the first question on are questionnaire was Do you think this follows the music genre conventions? And all the reply’s we got said Yes and the reason given by the audience for this where mainly because of two things. Firstly because of the Boy singing to a girl theme as this is typical of music videos because most songs are about love and there usually is a need of both females and males in the videos to keep the audience interested in the video and the second reason given was because of the strobe light used as this kind of lighting is used a lot in studio based music videos .

Page 6: Q3

Our Music video was based on a R&B song ‘’Strobe Light’ and our audience feedback tells us we had the typical conventions of a R&B music video. As our second question was Does this fit into the R&B Genre and How?. The feedback we got was Yes because the focus of the video was on the artist. Another element of the video which helped this video fit into the R&B genre was the fact that it was studio based as a lot of the feedback we got on this question said yes because it’s studio based with strobe lights and R&B music videos are usually studio based. However we also got a interesting feedback that said ‘yes because there is bling, love and a pretty girl and and No because R&B videos usually have guns and expensive cars’ The feedback from the first question also helped to answer this as the ‘girl and boy’ theme is also a typical R&B genre convention as R&B songs are usually based on love and our artists image was a ‘ladies man'

Does this fit into the R&B Genre and how?

Page 7: Q3

Was the pace of the video right for the song?

Yes

Editing should have been faster

Editing should have been slowed down

The majority of the audience said the pace of the music video was right for the song as they thought the flashing strobe light effect worked well and made the video faster on the bits where the chorus came in. However there where a few feedbacks we got which said the pace should have been a little bit faster as they where getting bored of the shots which where on for to long. There was one feedback we got which said the ‘maybe the editing should have been slightly slower’ this was a interesting answer as it was different to the majority of the feedback we got.

Page 8: Q3

Name two interesting elements of the video?

We then asked for two interesting elements of the video. The majority of the feedback told us that the two most interesting elements where1) strobe lightAnd 2) The effect of two images overlapping

however the audiences also found many other elements of the video interesting like the fading/dissolving of shots, the background used and the slow motion on

the girl. We where also told that the green screening was done very well.

Page 9: Q3

State an improvement that could be made and why?

We received quiet a lot of different feedback for this however most of the Feedback said the video needed more variety of shots and more shots of the girl as her shots where getting to repetitive, another thing noticed by the audience that needed to improved was the shot where the girl says ‘cba now’ if we had a chance to improve this video we would cut that shot.

Page 10: Q3

Does it challenge any of the typical music video conventions?

The last question we asked our audience was whether our video challenged the typical music conventions, the feedback tells us it didn’t as it had the conventions expected of a music video eg. the girl and boy theme an lots of close ups of the artist.

Overall I think the video we created fits in well with the R&B genre and we have followed the code and conventions of that genre however the feedback does show that there is room for improvement. If I had the chance to create a music video again I would make sure we don’t have scenes which are on for to long as these start to drag and bore the audience and would have more shots of the Girl.
