# If no, why not? Date
1 Property tax too high, you can find county place within
2 Walmart will change traffic and tone of town
3 I do not like paying town and county taxes
4 Too much development. You are ruining this lovely town with the Walmart and allowing mr pierce to build such smallhomes in the hammocks extension.
5 But you have to make sure they realize the stipulations of ownership of a historic home.
6 It depends on whether it ends up being a town of Super Stores. Which would destroy it's character.
7 Not with the Walmart coming.
8 Expansion out of control
9 With a Walmart, it will look like any other town and no longer have its charm and uniqueness
10 development issues in the town that may make it unfriendly to families and private property owners.
11 Not sure with the Walmart problem now
12 Traffic safety issues and Walmart hurts towns
13 Swansboro does not seem to care about it's citizens.
14 Because the city is not growing in direction the residents would like it's becoming jacksonville north
15 Walmart will destroy the small town charm that attracted me to Swansboro.

22 the town government is crooked and does not know how to control waste and putting our town into arrears when weshould be in the black! city does not care what the citizens want they do as they wish even when asking for input theydo waht they want no matter that the input says no !
23 Town board and eliest group of closed minded citizens! A mayor who has shady dealings!
24 town not progressive
25 If I would have bought a house outside the city I would pay less taxes
26 Too much growth. No walmart. Poor drainage

3 stronger UDO and more government transparency to ensure there isn't a repeat of the Walmart fiasco. For example, the UDO could require that citizens vote in a referendum on any major development projects.

1 The list above is already over done. Identify and improve/maintain what we have. Allow other business in thatsupports besides cars, car ports and fast food.
2 Lower taxes
3 Improve town aesthetics (plantings, flower beds at key locations, encourage better private property maintenance)
4 Stop building and reduce TRAFFIC
5 1) Ensuring a quiet community after 10 pm for residents. For example, in other communities with mixed-usedowntowns, businesses are required to take resonable sound-proofing measures. 3) Rather than courting short-termgains with businesses like Walmart and Taco Bell, support residential and business initiatives that increaseSwansboro's charm, which will increase tourism to the area (read: we'd rather become a Charleston than aJacksonville)
6 Overall, I think the town does well

1 sidewalks, biking/walking/running trails
2 bike/walk park and trails
3 public transportation
4 Sidewalks on Mt. Pleasant and Main St. Extension
5 More senior center activities - Richlands much too far!
6 Boat launch Theater Walmart
7 A bike path off the road that connected downtown to Hammocks Beach State Park. Please reference Greenville SouthCarolina, for how important a downtown with walking and neighborhoods could be interconnected more easily.
8 Bike Path to Hammocks Beach from downtown Library Branch within walking distance of downtown
9 1) Connect Ward Farm to downtown (with at least a nice walking path). From the looks of it, this developer is focusingon quality over quantity in terms of housing, so anything we can do to try to encourage that mindset would be great.Connecting those two zones would also enlarge the feeling of downtown. 2) More attractive shopping centers (similarin style to downtown) to house more locally-owned businesses and boost tourism. Our UDO should enact stricterbuilding codes for businesses in terms of aesthetics. 3) Better restaurants. Whenever I visit towns like Charleston andeven Fayetteville, I am amazed at the quality of food available for comparable cost (e.g.,http://www.blackmagicfb.com/ and http://www.dinewithsal.com/mustard). Swansboro really has not tapped into thispotential avenue of tourist revenue. Perhaps the town could contact great eateries like those above and see if theirowners are interested in expanding to Swansboro?
10 The Parks and Recreation programs for kids are extremely limited. I think that money spent on that department toincrease those programs would be great.
11 Specialty stores like Trader Joes.
12 farmer's / vegetable market
13 Splash park or community pool
14 Sidewalks on Hwy. 24 that extend all the way to the library
15 More safe walking areas and well lit streets!
16 Public boat access
17 Outback Steakhouse on HWY 24.
18 Better Shopping choices... Brand name dept. stores! More access to putting in boats into waterways
19 DOCK TRAFFIC ALONG WATERFRONT. Look at other waterfront communties that have day AND night traffic.Downtown businesses need to stay open later for tourism traffic in evening.
20 Activities for seniors with transportation provided. Elderly parent would benefit from this service.
21 More medical facilites, doctors closer than jacksonville or Morehead.
22 A dog park located at the municipal park.
23 I wish the town had purchased the land for a park that the future Walmart will be built on.

28 I'd love to see more sidewalks! If we ever wanted to add more to our charming town, a drive in movie theater would beneat, a community pool would be nice as well.
29 Love this area. Maybe small theater for plays etc.
30 More sidewalks on 24.
31 Bike paths
32 Outdoor concerts/events
33 Bike paths and/or sidewalks all the way down Hwy. 24. Either a Bojangles, Chick Fil-a, or Smithfield's.
34 More places to launch kayaks into the river. Bike paths along roads, especially hwy 24- too dangerous to ride my bikeanywhere outside of the downtown Swansboro area.
35 More bike/pedestrian paths, especially to Hammocks Beach State park!
36 Large Pool..improve tennis courts
37 After the fire and police departments are sufficiently staffed and sidewalks are in place, a public, pay-to-use swimmingpool
38 Local college access, theater.
39 Bike paths (the sad excuses for "bike lanes" on roads do NOT count), and sidewalks. I could and would happily livewithout a vehicle in Swansboro if there were adequate means of getting around without fearing for my life.
40 Dog Park
41 Community indoor basketball court
42 A community pool/park Outdoor movies during the summer - maybe an amphitheater that could also be used formusic Dog Park
43 Sidewalks and greenways.
44 Parks and Rec has done a PHENOMENAL job supporting the community. The summer camp and after schoolprograms are very appreciated. Any further programs are an added bonus. The more we can do downtown, thebetter, but there's already a lot. Focus on Hwy 24!!!!
45 Water park and Walmart
46 shopping opportunities Walmart, Petsmart, Home Depot
47 public transportation
48 more things for teenagers
49 something for kids
50 skating rink - parks
51 A frisbee golf course would be cool

1 The creation of a town manager was very unnecessary and cost a lot in money and trust as was the arbitrary changingof the mayoral term w/o a vote of the people. The debits of the budget should be published in the paper and postedonline with quarter updates. The purchase of the catholic church in an already crowded area makes no municipalsense. Sell and move out into greater Swansboro. Too much focus on water access., historics and non-tax bikes onhighways. Much of this has resulted in massive congestion and traffic reports. This is not why we moved here.
2 Roads are too narrow in most places, not enough public parking near old town
3 Roads are too narrow, safety while riding/running
4 I am deeply disappointed with the discussion of a boat ramp at Hammocks Beach State Park. Knowing a bit about thehistory of that area and what makes it so special, I feel that Dr. Sharpe, John Hurst and Gertrude Hurst would be upsetwith the destruction of the natural environment necessary to build a parking lot and to dredge to make Queen's Creekaccessible to motor boats. If the Town wants to see economic development of the area, the natural beauty of those289 acres could be much more of a tourist draw with careful planning than building a boat launch so that real estateagents can just have another selling point.
5 Last recommendation: Better communication between government and townspeople. For example, this survey was notwidely publicized. We need an improved digital newsletter and meeting agendas. Frequently what is provided on theagendas is jargon that makes it impossible to figure out how each item might affect a regular resident. Or, a seeminglysmall agenda item will lead into important decisions being made on larger issues (zoning, UDO, etc.) before residentseven know what happened. The bottom line is that people should be able to access an agenda and get a good enoughsense of the issues being discussed, and how those issues impact them, so that they can contact their commissionersbefore the meeting, or in lieu of attending the meeting, and express their wishes as to how the commissioner shouldvote.
6 Swansboro's needs to keep its charm to attract tourists, and that means that big box stores and chains need to bemore carefully controlled. No one comes to Swansboro to eat at a McDonald's so we need to protect our locally ownedbusinesses. I think that chain stores have their place in our community but they need to follow building codes thatmake them more appealing, and they cannot simply crowd 24 until nothing else is left.
7 Town government needs to listen to its residents, not special interest groups. It also needs to balance growth whileprotecting and maintaining its heritage.
8 Like the leadership and communications of Scott Chase
9 Better sound system in Town Hall. Awareness of vacant property and plans for development. Clean up of vacantproperty. Brittany Shipp and Scott Chase are doing a great job for Swansboro.
10 We love Swansboro and support positive Commissioners That work to make our town an even better place. Becauseof my membership in SADF and SAYDF I can't become even more active in town activities, etc!!!
11 Promoting responsible growth is important but traffic/highway infrastructure must be addressed before futuredevelopment.
12 As a past resident and a current property owner in Swansboro, I enjoy the local downtown atmosphere. I plan onmoving back to Swansboro in the next 2-3 years. I believe that improvements can be made on the waterfront nearHighway 24 bridges.
13 It would be sad to see corbett turn into a "western blvd".
14 If development continues unabated, some people will gain financially and others will lose a slice of Heaven.
15 This town will not survive an expansion that does not seriously invest in more "urban" or downtown spaces. A townlike Swansboro will fall apart and become just another speed bump on the highway if it does not address seriously thenature of what it means to be a town and how that can not be achieved with large box stores, widespread spec homecommunities and the occasional park.
16 There's really not much I don't like about Swansborough since I've lived here for 30 years it's just a wonderful place inthe waterways beautiful with the dolphins every day we watch them!
17 Needs to be more focus on improving look of NC 24 at west end of town.

18 I am interested in Walmart coming to Swansboro. I believe the proposed location is terrible, and that it would hurtsmall local businesses.
19 Parking and trafffic patterns in old town are horrible. With a planned traffic pattern employing one way streets, youwould solve two problems. 1) parking could be allowed on both sides of the street without having to play chicken withon coming traffic. 2) traffic flow through the town would flow much more smoothly making it more "visitor friendly".
20 No Walmart.
21 I have rented a small upstairs unit in downtown Swansboro for over 2 1/2 years. I know how important tourism is formy local businesses in my area. I also know traffic is an issue in my area. Has there every been a traffic study onmaking this downtown area a one way traffic pattern? Many time cars come head to head on Front St and then one carhas to back up down the street to make way for oncoming traffic.
22 Not enough sidewalks or pedestrian and bicycle friendly routes throughout city limits. Hwy 24 as well as HammocksRds are scary for someone walking or especially biking.
23 Swansboro is making great strides in communication, reworking the ordinances, etc since the new commissioners, town manager, town planner, and planning board members have come together. Communication is #1 on my listbecause there is a segment of the population who are determined to spread rumor against anyone and anything theydisagree with. If you put the facts in writing, sooner rather than as a response it will go a long way. We need to do abetter job and not rely on the Tidelands because once a week may not be enough, especially when somethingimportant happens at a meeting and it isn't reported on until the following week. Look at how Emerald Islecommunicates. Thank you for what you do and keep Swansboro safe, healthy, and vibrant.
24 This town needs to pull its head out of its ass. The community feeling this town had, the family oriented appeal, thequiet peaceful safe lifestyle is quickly diminishing. Even in the last 4 years. We are NOT a beachside community. Stoptrying to increase tourism. If you want to preserve the history of this town then do so. But bringing in more tourism. IsNoT going to do that. If you would like to see a town that started small and is now one of the nicest places to visit thenlook at Rochester, Mi. And follow their model. Keep the neighborhoods separated from the businesses. Give thepeople access to the town by sidewalk.
25 More economic development!! in outlying areas. Preserve downtown and Historic District
26 Need handicap parking during festivals close to downtown
27 Love Swansboro!
28 Love living here!
29 Very friendly town, very beautiful
30 Love Swansboro
31 A pleasant small town
32 Would love to see more youth invited and active in town planning
33 Swansboro is a great place to live, but certain town leaders need to understand the importance of the free market andrespecting property owner's rights. Moratoriums bring lawsuits. Answered Yes to question 8, however "understand avocal minority in town doesn't think property owners have rights"
34 Leaving here to a county that has a good track record! You need to get tid of the mayor!
35 Keep on working hard like you do - Thanks!
36 I do love Swansboro!
37 Parking for events/festivals especially for elderly
38 Keep up the good work!
39 Water draining in Deer Run still an issue. Dug out ditches/seeded and straw rolled into ditch. Water still standing
40 Very disappointed that Walmart is being put where it's going
41 Love living here
42 Music downtown is a fantastic way to spend a Sunday night.
43 Swansboro is a Wonderful "Friendly City by the Sea"! We need to work to stay positive with growth!

45 The town will not and cannot flourish when run by a small group with its own agenda. Swansboro must put the bestinterests of ALL its citizens first. Fewer grants and tax-money spent to benefit a few individuals or small groups.
46 As a long time resident living just beyond city limits, the primary concern is ease of access to downtown facilities tosupport businesses and community activities - i.e. Pug's gazebo events
