Our new playground has officially been completed! The students have been utilising this space and the new surface this week and have been having loads of fun exploring and testing out the netball courts and rings.
We will be holding an Opening Ceremony on Friday, 11 June commencing at 1.00 pm. Parents and carers are invited to join us for this very special occasion. The Elizabeth Street gate ONLY will be open from 12:45 pm for QR Code and Visitor Sign in. We will have many special guests joining us for the celebration. 2021 NAPLAN completed
Our students have finalised their NAPLAN tests for 2021. NAPLAN student results and parent reports are due to be returned to parents in Term 3. NAPLAN results are one source of information used to identify individual student needs and whole school needs for teaching and learning.
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports will be sent home on the last day of term with students. Parent teacher interviews will be conducted at the start of Term 3. Our online system will be utilised again for parents/carers to request and book an interview. Interviews will be available via Zoom, phone call and face to face options. Girls Rugby Seven’s
On Thursday, 20 May our Rugby 7's girls ventured to Cook Park to take on King Street in the first round of the PSSA Bryan Palmer Shield.
Our girls have been training hard and it was still fair to say that we were all a little nervous for our first game. Singleton kicked off and within the first minute we scored a try. The girls played well with fabulous sportsmanship and both teams enjoyed the extra time after the game to trial a few new skills and practice playing as a team. Our girls won 25 - 10. We now look forward to getting back to training and preparing to take on Dungog PS in the coming weeks.

Upper Hunter Rugby Trials
Well done to the boys who trialled for the Upper Hunter Rugby team. Congratulations goes to Vincent who made it through to the possible and probables on Friday, 28 May. Unfortunately Vincent did not make it past this point, but should be very proud to have made it that far.
Library News
On Wednesday, 19 May 2021, Singleton Public School participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. It is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. This year K-2 classes celebrated the event in the library to view the livestream video of ‘Give Me Some Space’, written and illustrated by Australian author Philip Bunting. The video showcased an introduction to Phillip Bunting and the book itself was read by the astronaut Dr Shannon Walker! This is an absolutely brilliant book focusing around exploring Space and all the curiosities that go along with inquisitive minds. As part of the celebrations the following students received a book prize:
Jono from KM
Angus from 1S
Savannah from 2M
Everyone had a great time.

Email Requesting Explanation for Absence
If your child is away from school, parents/carers will need to advise the school of their absence and the reason for the absence. You can enter the absence via the school app or send a note to the classroom teacher on their return.
The school is trialling a new procedure where if an absence explanation has not been received by 11.00 am on the day of an absence, parents/carers will receive an email requesting an explanation for their child’s absence. In the past, this email has been sent once per week however with the school's attendance procedure where teachers make contact with families when a student has been absent for two consecutive days without explanation, we are hoping this new method will reduce unexplained absences.
PSSA Hunter Soccer Trials
Congratulations to Kadah and Mitchell who played in the Upper Hunter Zone Soccer team which participated in the Hunter Soccer trials held on Tuesday, 18 May at Lake Macquarie. A great day was had by both boys.
BandLink 2021
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, members from the Concert and Training band went to King Street Public School to participate in Singleton Bandlink 2021. We joined students from King Street, Singleton Heights and East Maitland Public Schools for two days of muscial fun. Di Hall from the Arts Unit took the mass band for a variety of musical pieces. We also broke up for tutorials into instruments groups for extra practise. We learnt a lot from the 2 days. A big shout out to the mums who taxied our instruments and bags to and from King Street. I would also like to congratulate the children on their respectful behaviour.

Year 2 Sydney Zoo Excursion
Year Two along with teachers, SLSOs and parents travelled by Saxby’s coaches to The Sydney Zoo at Bungarribee in Western Sydney on Tuesday, 25 May.
The children were up very early ready to board the bus at 6:30 am. We arrived at the zoo and found that there were many other schools visiting the zoo. The zoo is well designed for all visitors with gently sloping paths and viewing areas that allowed the children to see each and every animal on display.
The children were happy to see the animals in environments that were very similar to their original homelands. We saw lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, meerkats, orangutang, monkeys, many Australian fish, including a bull shark, reptiles, snakes and our Australian animals with kangaroos and emus roaming around their enclosure. The dingo was a hit for one group with many children able to list their three favourite animals of the day.
The classes received a lesson from the zoo educators focusing on the features of a giraffe learning many interesting facts. They were able to be up and personal with a python and a blue tongue lizard, and learnt some tips about touching wild animals. Never on the head!
It was a wonderful opportunity for children to establish their ideas of what the animals look like in the flesh and enjoy the companionship of their classmates out of school.
We are all thankful for Gerry Harvey for providing the free access to the zoo and for our parents for embracing the opportunity for us all to visit Sydney. It was a wonderful excursion for all concerned and the joy from our children was contagious.

Netball School Cup
On Thursday, 27 May, 44 children ventured to Rosepoint Park Netball courts to participate in the Netball NSW Schools Cup Gala Day.
Our school had a Year 3/4 team and three Year 5/6 mixed teams. All of our teams played with great sportsmanship and enjoyed a laugh together as a team. It was fantastic to see experienced and new netballers work to negotiate positions, develop game plans and celebrate the successes in great spirit.
A huge thank you to Erin, Zoe, Lexi and Holly who volunteered their time to umpire for the day, it is greatly appreciated!
Congratulations to everyone who was involved in a very successful day and we look forward to the next Netball Gala Day later in the year.
