Q & A with Welding Specialist Mark Holder KEVIN BAGHERI, P. Eng CWB: How long have you been involved in the welding industry? Kevin: I have been in welding industry since 1999. CWB: Why did you get involved in the welding industry? Kevin: When I was studying in Metallurgy Engineering program at university, I was immediately interested to connue my graduate study level in Welding Engineering program. As the welding industry was rapidly changing, advancing welding technology, process, designs, metallurgy, and changing technical standards were creang a need for trained Welding Engineer. A welding engineer addresses these needs that the other engineers (Civil, Mechanical, and Metallurgy) may not be aware of them. CWB: If you could explain one of the most interesting aspects of your career, please do? Kevin: Good welding begins with good educaon. The first undergraduate course on Welding Design, Fabricaon and Quality Control at the University of Oawa for Mechanical Engineering students was delivered by me and Dr. Mahyar Asadi during 2015 winter semester. This course received good evaluaons from both students and the department and this enforces the overall value of the implementaon of the program, and gives insight to its future success. CWB: Why did you sign up to the OPS’s Welding Specialist Mark? Kevin: I signed up to CWB’s Office of Public Safety’s Welding Specialist Mark to be recognized more globally. W.R.DAVIS Engineering is dealing with large mulnaonal companies (oil and gas for example) who do have awareness and understanding of the ISO 3834 Standards. It is roughly CSA W47.1 and ISO 9001 Standards together in one document. A qualified Responsible Welding Co-ordinator (RWC) is one of the requirements for fabricaon as per ISO 3834.
