Q1

Debatable origins of what phrase? Today the phrase is used by teachers and parents.

1. The practice of chalking up a tally of drinks in English pubs (on the slate). Publicans had to make sure to mark up the quart drinks as distinct from the pint drinks.

2. Advice to printers' apprentices to avoid confusing the backward-facing metal type lowercase of the two letters. The fact that type had to be set upside down and backwards made the need for a warning to be careful doubly appropriate.

The Battle of X was fought on 14 June 1800 which resulted in driving the Austrians out of Italy.

A grey Arabian was imported from Egypt in 1799 as a 6-year-old and was named X.

Alexander the Great had said “A <deleted> gives you wings.” Perhaps that is why the grey Arabian was named X, in honour of the battle in which he ensured safety of the leader of the victors.

He was eventually arrested on 28 February 2014 by Uttar Pradesh police on a Supreme Court's warrant.

In a statement after the arrest, his lawyer said his 92-year-old mother was in poor health and needed "her eldest son" by her side, and hence he failed to appear at the court.

“Last but not the least, he is to me is not only a doting father but also a patriotic son of the soil who has contributed immensely to the country in many ways whether it is various social causes impacting lives of people across the length and breadth of the country or whenever India needed its son to stand up and shoulder responsibilities like helping the families of Kargil martyrs, Mumbai terrorist attack martyrs and victims of earth quakes, floods and other forms of natural calamity. Today it pains me to see his reputation and image being maligned in this manner and I humbly seek your support and cooperation.” : His son’s statement. Whom are we talking about?

Two accounts are given in Norbert Brockman's (1997) Encyclopedia of Sacred Places.

The first tells of serpent beings who waged many wars around X, scarring the rock.

The second tells of two tribes of ancestral spirits who were invited to a feast, but were distracted by the beautiful Sleepy Lizard Women and did not show up. In response, the angry hosts sang evil into a mud sculpture that came to life as the <largest terrestrial predator on the continent>. There followed a great battle, which ended in the deaths of the leaders of both tribes. The earth itself rose up in grief at the bloodshed, becoming X.
