Good morning.
I can certainly say I am glad we are reaching the end of the working week. It has
been hectically busy this week with all that has been going on.
Year 6 have been sitting SATs this week which has meant that many staff have
been diverted in helping to administer these and supporting children. These tests
continue to be challenging but we are very proud of the children and how they
have approached the tests calmly and with resilience and determination. The staff
have worked very hard helping the children to cope with the tests in a
supportive manner, as will be the case for Year 2 when they sit their tests over
the next couple of weeks. My sincere thanks to all the staff who have had to be
flexible this week with their classes, as there has been some disruption to our
usual timetable. I am also grateful to Julian Walker who came in to check that
everything was being done properly in terms of the administration of the tests.
There are very clear rules and regulations to which we must abide and all
schools were asked to arrange for a governor to carry out checks.
The younger children have been enjoying their first week of swimming lessons
and have mainly been blessed with good weather, although I don’t think it would
bother them if it was lashing down with rain! We are fortunate to have secured
the services of our swimming instructor Mark for the whole 8 weeks that
swimming is taking place.
Improvements continue to be made to the school grounds and we have received
a set of very exciting playground equipment plans from one of the companies we
have asked to quote. More companies are visiting over the next couple of weeks.
Unfortunately I have received more reports of poor and inconsiderate driving
and parking near the school, including parking on the zig-zag lines outside school
and aggressive driving behaviour. We are working in collaboration with the local
police and with the PCSO who was here at drop off this morning. This school
aims to have the best possible relationships with our neighbours and we need
everyone in the school community to play their part. More importantly we must
all do everything we can to ensure the safety of our children. Therefore please
use the path around the edge of the car park on Coldharbour Road rather than
cutting across where the cars are parked.
Wishing you an enjoyable
weekend.

There is a funeral at the Church of the Good
Shepherd next Friday, 19th May. The car park
will not be available for parents to use at
afternoon pick up and there is likely to be more
traffic than usual, so please allow extra time to
find a safe and considerate place to park.

TOMORROW Miss Adams and Mrs Tolley will be taking part in the London
Moonwalk; a marathon distance power walking event, through the night, to raise
money for Walk the Walk, a breast cancer charity. Walk the Walk is based in
Woking. As the charity aims to raise awareness of breast cancer symptoms they ask
all participants to complete the walk in a decorated bra, even the men!
Miss Adams and Mrs Tolley are both doing the walk in memory of Mrs Edis and have been training hard. Their
bras will feature both pink and sparkles in her honour. Both of them would be grateful of any support anyone can
give and the links to their fundraising pages are below.
Thank you very much. Miss Adams and Mrs Tolley

I’ve made a group
booking for 30 tickets
to see Dirty Dancing at
Woking on Thursday
7th September. Tickets
work out at £36 per person for great seats in
the Stalls (a discount from the regular price
and much less than the West End). I have
already invited some friends but we have 11
tickets left. Please email me to let me know
if you’d like to come aong and, if so, how
many tickets you would like. £1.50 per ticket
goes to the Friends of Pyrford Primary
School.
