    The history of the portThe history of the port The port has its present location since the end of Byzantine period. It was

    used to export cereals from the fields of Thessaly and handmade productsfrom the mount Pelion.

    The first authority of the port was established after the liberation of Thessalyfrom the Turks in 1881. The construction of the port is placed between 1889and 1923.

    In 1939 it was the third largest port in Greece after Piraeus & Sallonica.

    Damages from bombings during the second world war

    The present development planning of the port since 1983 after a long period ofproblems and negotiations
