Putty People The May 2016 Newsletter of the Putty Community Association Inc. VALE FR MAX-AUGUSTINE EGGERT Our Putty community is deeply mourning the sudden, violent, tragic and wasteful death of our friend, Fr Max, mid-morning on Monday, 2 May. The contribution of Fr Max and Jane to this valley community has added a dimension to our lives and shall stand as a memorial to Fr Max's commitment to us all. We will miss him greatly. Since 2013 Fr Max and Jane have thrown their energies and love into getting to know people and enthusiastically supporting our community in many worthwhile ways. His vitality for life and his devotion to our Putty Valley were a witness to his Christian Faith, his driving force. He saw their property, Pilgrim's Rest, as a wonderful gift from God and the Putty Valley as Paradise. He and Jane were generous with all that they had. The Eucharist Service and Bible Study at the Hall twice monthly was a blessing to those who attended. Each Service the whole of the Putty Valley was prayed for and it was Fr Max's routine to pray daily for us all. The children received love and care from Fr Max and Jane through the Sunday School and other activities and their loss is great. There has been a spontaneous out-pouring of love and support for Jane and Fr Max's family. Our thoughts go out to those who first responded to this fatal event but particularly to Glen Cuthbert, Peter and Judy Smit and Ken Ferguson. Jane, please be assured at e whole of e Puy Communi supports and upholds you in your grief for your great loss. We feel so much for you. Words fail express our sorrow. We are here for you. In closing, let me quote some Scripture on Fr Max's behalf : 2 Timothy 4: Verses 7 - 8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing. With respect, Geoff King On behalf of myself and all the Fathers/The Monks and the Brothers of St Shenouda Monastery in Putty, I convey Our condolences on the departure of the Very Rev Fr Max Eggert. FR MAX-AUGUSTINE EGGERT !Our Putty community is deeply mourning the sudden, violent, tragic and wasteful death of

our friend, Fr Max, mid-morning on Monday, 2 May. The contribution of Fr Max and Jane to this valley community has added a dimension to our

lives and shall stand as a memorial to Fr Max's commitment to us all. We will miss him greatly.

Since 2013 Fr Max and Jane have thrown their energies and love into getting to know people and enthusiastically supporting our community in many worthwhile

ways. His vitality for life and his devotion to our Putty Valley were a witness to his Christian Faith, his driving force. He saw their property, Pilgrim's Rest, as a

wonderful gift from God and the Putty Valley as Paradise. He and Jane were generous with all that they had. !

The Eucharist Service and Bible Study at the Hall twice monthly was a blessing to those who attended. Each Service the whole of the Putty Valley was prayed

for and it was Fr Max's routine to pray daily for us all. The children received love and care from Fr Max and Jane through the Sunday

School and other activities and their loss is great.

There has been a spontaneous out-pouring of love and support for Jane and Fr Max's family.

Our thoughts go out to those who first responded to this fatal event but particularly to Glen Cuthbert, Peter and Judy Smit and Ken Ferguson. !

Jane, please be assured that the whole of the Putty Community supports and upholds you in your grief for your great loss. We feel so much for you. Words fail to express our sorrow. We are here for you.

!In closing, let me quote some Scripture on Fr Max's behalf : 2 Timothy 4: Verses 7 - 8 !

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the

righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing. “

With respect, Geoff King

FIREY NEWS By Margaret Ferguson April Brigade training held at Putty Station and on the field was well attended by members. Training

covered responding/proceeding to an Incident in both the Cat 7 and Cat 1 fire trucks. Members who attended benefited from the simulated incident by using standard procedures and radio communication between the crews in the trucks.

COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDERS Putty Rural Fire Brigade/Putty CFR 28 has received a vehicle for Community First Responder use from NSWRFS. It is a 4WD Toyota Landcruiser and is fully fitted-out with CFR

medical/trauma equipment, supplied by Ambulance NSW. This is a welcome addition to the Putty RFB fleet and will free up the Category 7 fire vehicle which has been used previously to attend motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies. Putty has four trained CFR personnel who continue to attend regular Ambulance NSW Maintenance of Skills sessions held every four weeks. The Annual General Meeting of the Putty Rural Fire Brigade will be held at the Brigade station on Saturday 28th May 2016 commencing at 2pm. Members and residents are welcome to attend. !!

MAYORAL CITATION for ALEDA GRAHAM On Thursday 31st March a Mayoral morning tea was held at the Council chambers to recognise the charitable and community contribution made by Putty’s own, Aleda Graham. Aleda has been visiting Fitzgerald Aged Care voluntarily since it opened twenty two years ago, every Thursday morning, rain, hail or shine, to host a sing a long with our very appreciative residents. Aleda brings her talented students regularly who also perform for the residents.

These moments have been very important to us all and have brought everlasting joy into our lives. Fitzgerald Aged Care nominated Aleda for this prestige Mayoral Citation from Mayor, Kim Ford.

!ANZAC DAY CELEBRATED AT THE PUTTY HALL by Barbara Kearns !

There was record attendance and participation for this year’s Anzac Day ‘Somme Centenary’ commemoration service.

Children of the Sunday School had made the beautiful poppies with Jane Robinson. Each contained a portrait of a soldier killed in recent conflicts, which were sourced by Pam King. Pam added the Rosemary and helped pin them on. Then Richard Helm lowered the flag to half mast and Geoff King, whose father had served on the Somme, led the moving service. Readings and prayers were given by Jane, Richard, and Judy Hobson.

The Children of Putty, led by Aleda recited, “We shall keep the faith” by Moina Michael; Nicole Hewlett sang, “The Call” and “Travellin’ Soldier” and Glen Cuthbert delivered the poem, “For the Fallen.” A wreath was laid on behalf of all the people of Putty by one of the children, who also led the National anthem.

Then Father Max gave a prayer for peace and a Benediction, after which everyone retired to the Hall for Pam King’s wonderful Anzac biscuits and numerous other tasty delights supplied by our ever-generous helpers.

FREE DROP OFF ELECTRONIC WASTE An e-waste recycling event will be held on the 7th and 8th May at Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon from 9am to 4pm each day. It will target every day household items such as televisions, computers, DVD players, projectors, cables and many other items that people struggle to dispose of in an environmentally responsible manner. !Around 16.8 million televisions, computers and related accessories are disposed of each year in Australia, of this staggering amount only 20 to 30% of these products are recycled. This free collection event will ensure a responsible recycling approach and keep valuable materials out of landfill, as well as chemicals used in the products, such as lead, cadmium and arsenic,” he added. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure all data is erased from their devices before being handed over for recycling. You do not have to be a local resident of the Hawkesbury to drop off your stuff.

Initiatives for 2016 will include approaching the Local Land Services and the Department of Primary Industry with a view to these departments running field days in Putty to suit the needs of local landowners.

MAY DAY OR LABOUR DAY This has its origins in the eight hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. On 21 April 1856 Stonemasons and building workers on building sites around Melbourne stopped work and marched from the University to Parliament House. They are noted as the first organized workers in the world to achieve an eight-hour day with no loss of pay, which subsequently inspired the celebration of Labour Day and May Day, a public holiday which varies considerably between the various states and territories.

!AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST ROADSIDE DEMONSTRATION By Kathy McKenzie #Water4Life National Highway Action

On Saturday, June 25 from 10am to 2pm people nationwide will park their cars along our national highways and make a noise as a protest to the continual gas and coal mining. Give this Federal Election a meaningful task. Australia's water is under threat from risky gas and coal mining. Mining expansion creates a small profit for a few, yet permanently damages and contaminates water sources for many. On Saturday 25 June, people will make a noise that cannot be ignored. Make some signs, pack a picnic, organise a group of friends for a roadside picnic lunch. Call Kathy 6579 7047 to arrange a meeting place on Putty Road http://www.lockthegate.org.au/nation_highway_action2016!
