    Looking for my fur-ever home

Shelter Update We are absolutely delighted to announce we have received the planning permit from the City of Banyule to rebuild our facilities. The

new purpose built shelter will include a quality feline veterinary clinic for members of the public at reasonable cost. Of course our

objective will remain to find suitable homes for un-owned, stray and surrendered cats wherever possible and to provide best practice

facilities and services for the care of homeless cats. This is a very exciting time and we appreciate it will be a challenging road ahead,

but the end result for our cats and kittens will be worth every minute.

    Harrys Hard

    Start to Life

Harrys story is one we are seeing increasingly often. Although Harrys story ends with a soon-to-be

    happily ever after, sometimes oth-

    er cats arent so lucky

    Due to various circumstances such

    as financial difficulty, people feel-

ing sorry for the cat or they just dont know any better, people look to online resources to adopt a cat or a pet. The problem with this is,

    these sites are unregulated; which

means you have no idea where

    these cats have come from

(whether it be a puppy farm, back-

    yard-breeder, etc), what their medi-

cal history is, whether or not the

    animal is desexed, microchipped,

or vaccinated or if they have any

    medical issues. Like little Harry.

Harry was adopted via a Free to good home post on Gumtree (a site used to sell/buy goods). He

    was not desexed, microchipped or

    vaccinated, & unbeknownst to his

new owner, was suffering from a

    serious eye condition. When Harry

went to the vet after being with his

owner for just one week, the news

was not good; Harrys eye was in-fected & had to be removed, which

is a costly procedure & one Harrys

    owner could not afford.

Harrys owner then surrendered him over to us. The poor little kitten

was not in a good way. We took him

into our care, & waited until he was

strong enough to have the eye sur-

    gery.

Jessika What is the most rewarding

thing about working at CPS? Gaining the trust of strays who

havent been associated with people or abused cats.

Do you have a special bond with

a particular cat? Ruby who was with us for a few months. She had a gor-

    geous squeaky meow & loved

    attention once she trusted you

    enough. Thankfully she was

    adopted a few weeks ago.

What do you like best about

working at CPS? I like the fact that cats are often

    over looked and deemed as

pests so its nice that we spe-cifically look after cats and give

    them a second chance.

Whats your favourite work memory? Donna & Zeke, our two longest

available for adoption cats were adopted into the same

home. It was so wonderful as

they were close at CPS and

    grew attached to each other.

If I was a cat I would sun bake asleep all day and eat lasagne

    Where are they now!

    Donna & Zeke together forever

Remember Donna & Zeke? Two of our longest stay cats at CPS. Their story will warm your heart

Donna & Zeke entered our shelter separately a few years ago around about the same time & instantly bonded. They were so shy & found comfort & security in each other. Time went by, & while their other, more outgoing mates went to their forever homes, Donna & Zeke were left waiting, waiting, and waiting. Then Veronica came along.

Last November Veronica came to our shelter looking for a quiet cat to keep her company & bonded with Donna. So off Donna went to her forever home. That just left Zeke. We were sad to see them split up but happy that Donna had found a great home.

    Then Veronica decided Donna needed a mate to keep her company. She called us won-dering if Zeke was still available, & he was. So Veronica visited us again and left with Zeke. The pair were going to be reunited! We were curious to see if they would remem-ber each other. Veronica recently emailed us with this uplifting update;

I recently adopted Donna & Zeke (I decided to rename them Rosie & Ollie). I am glad to say they are both very happy to be back together & have both settled in really well.

Thank you to everyone at CPS for your help and support..
