Qualifying #1—Student Response

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used each of these elements to as much extent as I could given the time limit, the picturestill isnt complete. I use lines the most out of all of these, and I think I get the results Iwant when I do, such as the texture on the oranges and the onions or the shape of theapples. I use form quite well in all my work as well, as you can see I tried to make theonions and oranges as spherical as I could given the time. though I could have done betterwith the bowl. I also made sure I got the shapes as realistic to the fruit as I could, youcan clearly see this with the apples and squash. I had a lot of value in the piece as well,I shaded the dark areas and brightened the light, as you can see with the shadow of thebowl or the shine on the onions. The space quality in my drawing is acceptable, I got thescene I wanted even though I through I threw perspective off a little bit, for example theoranges are only a little bigger than the onions in reality but they are supposed to be alittle smaller than they appear because they are further back in the drawing. Even so, Iused color to my full advantage, to get the texture of the fruit, to make the shading seem abit more believable, to create a good 3 dimensional image to the fruit for example, all thefruit. And texture as well was acomplished to an acceptable class, such as the grain on thewood, the skin on the onion, and the slightly bumpy skin on the oranges. I could have donemuch better on all of these aspects, but I didn’t have enouph time to create the image Ihad in mind.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

I used black to make the picture seem in balance, such as the fruit and vegetable outlinedblack so they look more important and deprived the background of such to make the viewerfocus on the vegetables and fruit. I also feel I accomplished proportion as well, forexample the onions are the correct size in comarison to the bowl, and the apples beingsmaller than the oranges wich helped to create composition to the work making it realistic,or, more like a still life.

Qualifying #2—Student Response

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used line form and shape when sketching out my picture. Lots of circle/ovals for fruits, etc. I used value to show the shadows being cast down on the fabric and various objects. Itried to use all the space I was provided with in an interesting way, adding in somelettering to finish it off. I also tried to show the varying colors and textures of the objectssuch as the apple.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

Before beginning to draw I measured the placement of objects on my paper. Decidingwhere the top, bottom, and sides of the basket should be, and then filling in the rest fromthere. Then I checked the proportions of the fruits in comparison to each other. Makingsure none were too large or too small in comparison.

Qualifying #3—Student Response

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used all of these elements to make my picture because I made sure each item had theright color and looked as if it had texture and the shapes were proportionate. I also feelI used my space accurately and made the basket balanced.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

I used balance well by centering my pictures. I also used proportion very well, anddrawing this freehand made it hard to make it accurate but it turned out well

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used the line element by drawing the picture before I started to color.form—I formed them to shape the fruit to be in proportion shape—I made the oranges round so it has shape it connects bolth endsvalue—I shaded the bananas and the lime and I tried to do the bowlspace—I left plenty of room ont the center so I can get the whole picture in itcolor—I tried to color them good but I did not have enough time but I colored some of thefruit just 1 color.texture—I left the fruit to look smooth

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

I made the fruit look separate from the other fruits because I made some fruits darkeror lighter that other ones I kept the fruit in proportion by not making the apple biggerthat the orange and not making the lime bigger than the orange.

Qualifying #6—Student Response

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used color and texture by shading the fruit and vegetables. Space is used up by makingthe fruits and vegetables large and taking up the page. Line is used in the horizon of thepage and throught the shape. Value is showen in shadows and the shaping of fruits andvegetables.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

Using balance I arranged the fruits and vegetables in a manner that takes up space inthe composition. Proportion is showed in the sizes of each thing compared to the next. Themushrooms are smaller than the pears and apples. The pot is larger than the fruits andvegetables showing their size.

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used each of these elements in many different ways to create my picture.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

I thought about the principles of balance and proportion for a long time before I startedso I was sure to use it right.

Qualifying #8—Student Response

1) Describe in detail how you used each of the elements of line, form, shape, value, space, color, and texture.

I used the lines in my drawings to show depth in my drawing. I used this because it wouldmake my drawing to look more 3D. The texture I used in my drawing was cross-hatch andacts to show detail on my fruit. I didn’t use much color in my drawing because Black andwhite is classic. It made it easier to make the detail and texture for my drawing.

2) Describe in detail how you used the principles of balance and proportion to organize your composition.

I measured things out. I made the things that were closer to the front of the basket biggerthan those in the back. I used realism also, so I basically made everything the size theywould be. For example, apples and oranges are similar in size not grapes and apples.
