CFC YOUTH FOR FAMILY AND LIFE │ 2009

Rationale: Teenage years are a crucial time of self discovery. According to Erick Erickson, the development stage of those aged 13- 21 is a journey of hopingly grasping one’s identity as supposed to being confused of one’s role in life. Thus, it is a natural occurring fact that these are the times wherein people search for their purpose in this world. This very purpose is God given. He has imbibed this on the way He created us that is according to image and likeness. But much to our dismay, there are a lot of factors that hinders the youth to discover this. The world dictates strongly what should be, when as a matter of fact, the best and perfect plan has already been set by God. It is therefore important that at the stage of youth of people, they discover how they where made to be and to allow them to build up themselves. These would both lead them to live up the reason for their being, and that is to love God, and to love their neighbor. General Objective: To be able to embrace our purpose to “act” or to do ministry by:

Allowing the youth to discover how God created them to be. Discovering one’s passions as a way to give importance to God’s masterpiece in them. To be able to bring one’s self back to God in thanksgiving and serving one’s neighbor.

Specific Objective: To allow the participants: 1. To have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding our human dignity and the call to love. 2. To discover one’s strengths and capabilities to define God’s unique purpose in one’s life. 3. To officially introduce the different ministries of YFL to the participants, to allow them to choose one

or more for them to be a part of. 4. To bring back to God His creation in us, as our way of glorifying Him by living a life of service. Program Description: The Passion Driven Activity is a 1 whole day activity for community level YFL. It has 3 major sessions with talks, activities, sharing, reflection and workshops. A highlighted part of this activity is the introduction to the YFL ministries to reach the ultimate goal of this event to be able to mold our members to serve God by serving the people around them. The sessions of the Passion Driven Activity are as follows: 1. True Colors 2. Driven by Passion 3. Ready to A.C.T.

A crucial part of this activity is the workshops that would be a means of identifying the passions of the members. This would allow them to discover means for them to build up themselves, and further more have a tool for them to be of service. These workshops are themed after our YFL ministries. Communications

CFC YOUTH FOR FAMILY AND LIFE Passion Driven Activity Orientation Talk Goals: To give the participants an idea of what to expect from the activity. To make the participants feel comfortable and at ease enough to enjoy and open up. Dynamics: 1. The Orientation should be given by the team leader. Make the atmosphere light and fun. Give jokes

and tell stories. 2. After registration, gather the participants playing one to two songs 3. Have the game master lead the group into a game. 4. The team leader leads the opening worship 5. Welcome the participants and introduce the team. Expanded Outline: I. Reason for the Passion Driven Activity

You have experienced God and grown to love Him more in your Youth Camp months ago. In this activity, you will discover who you are, how God created you to be. You will discover that although we are all equal as we are created in His image and likeness, you are unique.

In this camp, you will get to discover your passions to help you build up yourself. This would truly prepare you for your calling to love God, and love your neighbor. All these will help you complete more the joy that you have found earlier. God indeed wills for you to grow more in your happiness, as He has the best plans for you yet. II. Expectations

A. Expect to have fun and enjoy. B. Expect to grow in relationship with your brothers and sisters in your household and in the other

households. C. Expect to hear God’s word and listen to what He is telling you and what He is leading you to

discover about yourself and the life that He has given you. III. Attitudes Open up! No one here will judge you or make fun of you. Rest assured that you are among friends, brothers and sisters even.

Allow your brothers and sisters to love you. Share your experiences. You’ll never know. Someone might need to hear your sharing and be blessed by your experience.

Make the most out of this time to recharge and refuel. You will be at the forefront of the battle for the souls of the people in your area, your schools, your friends and your family. There will be a lot of work to do. This is the time to discover God’s beautiful creation in you. So, listen up!

CFC YOUTH FOR FAMILY AND LIFE Passion Driven Activity Talk 1: True Colors Goals: 1. To realize that his/her whole being is rooted in God and in His unconditional love for all of us, 2. To feel how special he/she was created and to desire to reflect the man/woman God has created

him/her to be, and 3. To be able to love God’s creation in one’s self. 4. To realize that one is made out of love and is for love.

Dynamics: 1. Start the session with the activity, “My Self-Portrait”. Give each participant a sheet of paper with a

picture of a blank face, sheet of paper with two-columned table, and writing materials. 2. Begin with the talk proper. 3. Prepare one or two sharers. The team leader and the speaker should brief the sharers about the

objectives of the talk to make sure that the goals of the talk will be achieved and clarified through their sharing.

4. After the sharing, the speaker or the team leader will lead the group into a reflection. The song “True Colors” by Cindy Lauper may be sung as the reflection song.

5. Proceed to the second activity, “Circle of Love”. Give each participant one sheet of paper, writing and coloring materials

6. Lead the group into a closing prayer. First Activity: My Self-Portrait 1. Form the participants into dyads of the same sex. 2. Give each participant a sheet of paper with a picture of a blank face on it. 3. Ask the participants to draw their self-portrait as an answer to the question: “How do you see

yourself?” 4. Give the participants another sheet of paper with a two-columned table. The first column will be

labeled as "WHAT'S HOT?" and the second column will be labeled "WHAT'S NOT?" In the first column, the participant will answer: “What do I like about myself?” In the second column, the participant will answer: “What do I not like about myself?”

5. Ask the participants to share with their partner what they drew and wrote and how they feel about it.

Expanded Outline: I. Introduction

Each of us has a perception of our own self. There are things we like and are happy about in our self; there are also things we don’t like and are unhappy about in our self. We measure our self against certain standards – either our own standards, standards of the significant people in our lives, standards of the world, or God’s standards.

Unfortunately, the desire to live up to the world’s standards has caused a lot of youth today to be

burdened as they constantly seek love and appreciation. No matter how they try to get what they want,

Page 6: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

they mostly end up unhappy and confused about their own desires. Many of us young people are confused about who we are because of the many things the world says about us.

When people think we are second class or less of a person because of the color of our skin or the way we look or the salary of our parents.

When people expect us to live by a certain standard because of the reputation of our parents. When people force us to go with the norm that is not according to our principles.

The world measures our value as a person by the way we look, the way we speak, what we have or what we can do and not by who we are. This leads the youth to be clouded with worldly desires and temporary happiness that they have forgotten who they really are at the core. They have forgotten that they are God’s precious handiwork, with no need to submit to worldly standards. It is important for us to realize and accept who we really are if we want to live the life God wants for us. “Yes, I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for woe, plans to give you a future full of hope”. (Jer. 29:11) II. True Values We need to understand and accept our nature. We need to see what we are meant to be. 1. Our Human Nature

Even while each of the almost six billion people in the world is unique, there is something common in all of us. All of us human beings have the same human nature, what we are at the very core. Regardless of our race or status, we are all created in the image and likeness of God, a God that is perfect. (Gen. 1:27) Being made in the image of God, our dignity is rooted in God. This means we are not just something, but someone. This means we possess the worth of a person that has a special purpose here on earth, and that is very special no matter what. This distinguishes us from animals and inanimate objects.

2. Our True Worth

Man is the only creature on earth which God willed for itself. (Gaudium et Spes 24) This means that man has to be valued not for what he has or for what he is useful for, but for what he is as a human person. We are not valuable because of the things we own or even the talents and skills we have. Sadly, not all of us realize our worth, our dignity, and our human nature. We have been blinded by how the world dictates our worth. The world does not value persons who are:

disabled or sick poor unproductive

The world values those who are:

rich

Page 7: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

beautiful skillful intelligent

But this is not how it is with God. In God’s eyes, the human person is valuable in himself hence lovable in himself. 3. Our True Calling

God, who made us and whom we are made from, is love. At the same time, God created us out of love. Hence, another consequence that flows from our dignity as human persons is that we can only find fulfillment through love. And since we are the only creatures made in the image of God who is love, then we are the only creatures who have the capacity to love. Our calling in living our lives is to love other people, just as how God has loved us. But we first need to get to know ourselves, how we were really created to be. We need to love who we are for us to later on to truly love our neighbor.

Call in 2 sharers. They will share about how they were able to appreciate and understand God’s creation in them, that despite the world’s standards, they live according to His standards.

III. Conclusion We are created in the image and likeness of a God that is perfect. No one can take that away from us. It is inherent and attached to our being. We may not be perfect in worldly standards but we carry God’s perfect image, imperfect vessels though we may be. God wants us to realize our worth that even at the point what we feel most unlovable; it is the point when He’ll love us most.

We must realize, believe, and be confident in His love in order to free us from the standards of this world. We must be free in experiencing the unconditional love of God and thus, share this with those who do not know God’s love yet.

We were made OUT OF love, made BECAUSE OF love, and made IN ORDER TO love. This is our true value, our true nature, our true worth, our true calling, our very essence, our true colors! Second Activity: Circle of Love 1. Ask the participants to form groups of five to seven members each and form a small circle with their

group mates. 2. Provide each participant with a sheet of paper, some coloring and writing materials. 3. Instruct the participants to write their name at the top of the paper, leaving plenty of space for

writing below their name. They can decorate the paper and be creative as possible. 4. The object of the activity is to express love for each other by acknowledging the image of God in the

other persons. The participants will write something good or positive about each of their group mates as the papers are passed around. A signal will be given when they will pass the paper to their right, take time to write something, and then pass the paper again on the next signal.

5. On the first signal, ask the participants to pass the paper to their right. 6. Upon receiving the paper of the person on their left, the participant will be asked to write something

good or positive about the person whose name is written on top of the paper. 7. After the allotted time (maybe 30 seconds to one minute), give the signal for them to again pass the

paper to their right. 8. The passing and writing will end once the participants receive his/her own paper

CFC YOUTH FOR FAMILY AND LIFE Passion Driven Activity Talk 2: Driven by Passion Goals: 1. To allow the participants to realize that one’s self is unique from any other person God created. 2. To discover one’s passions in form of skills, knowledge and specialties. 3. To realize that one’s uniqueness is the road to living an extraordinary life. Dynamics: 1. Begin with the talk proper. 2. Prepare one or two sharers. The team leader and the speaker should brief the sharers about the

objectives of the talk to make sure that the goals of the talk will be achieved and clarified through their sharing.

3. Proceed to the first activity, “My STORY”. Give each participant a sheet of paper and writing materials.

4. Go on next to the second activity, which is the group sharing of their answers to the activity “My STORY”. (Groupings are according to households)

5. Proceed to the workshops. Talk Proper I. Introduction It is a beautiful thing to know that we are all special in God’s eyes, regardless of what we are. Even if in the standards of the world tells us that we are just ordinary, God says that each of us is a masterpiece worth loving. We don’t need to be superstars, heroes or champions to be appreciated and loved, because in our Father’s arms, we are found to be very dear. We may all have a common factor, and that is our worth and dignity as a person that stems from our being created in His image and likeness. But each of us is extraordinary. No one is the totally the same in this world. It is because everyone of us in this world was personally handicraft by our Creator, for a certain reason. And since we are made for a certain purpose, we can build up our lives to be uncommon. II. Extraordinarily Beautiful Nobody has the exact color tone of your skin. Nobody has the exact skin lines on your palms. Most probably, nobody has even the same full name as yours with the same age, with the same nationality, with the same features. You are yourself, the one and only you. But this is just the beginning. There are so many obvious things that could differentiate one person from the other, but what is deeper that all these is the one perfect plan that God has in our lives. His plan for each of us is unique, and that plan leads to the very purpose we each have for our existence. III. Our Passions, Our Road to Living Extraordinarily

Page 10: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

In allowing us to live uniquely the way God wants for us to live His plan in us, we need to discover things that would allow us to attain that. This pertains to our passions. A passion is something that sparks off our enthusiasm and excitement. It is a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything that would allow us to be productive. When we start discovering our passions, then we motivate ourselves to get going. And when we do, we are on the road to making our lives uncommon for us to reach our purpose. For us to discover our passions, we need to identify our S.T.O.RY. (Max Lucado’s “A Cure for the Common Life”) Strengths Discover the actions that have given you that successful moment. It is where you do best.

E.g.: writing, speaking, dancing, playing basketball, singing. Topics Discover the objects or ideas that fascinate you.

E.g.: politics, culinary arts, arts, showbiz, nature. Optimal conditions Discover the best moments under which you can work.

E.g.: emergency situations, predictable routines, pressure, excitement, fear. Relationships Discover if you work better alone, in a partnership, or as part of a team or large group

E.g.: working on a project alone, or with a group Yes! moments, Discover those times in your life when it all came together, when you felt you had found what you were made to do.

E.g.: Elected into office for a Student Council position you want – Treasurer (and you love Math), traveling, bonding with Special Kids

Discovering your S.T.O.R.Y. is actually discovering the things that allow you to live life to the fullest. This is about unraveling your passions. Your S.T.O.R.Y. sums up your talents, skills, knowledge and preferences that bring you to a sense of fulfillment when used to the fullest. IV. How to discover your Passions Most of the time, the problem is not that we are not blessed with passions. The hindrance to living a life not feeling that we are blessed is simply not being able to identify God’s gift in ourselves. We simply don’t know how to discover those things that make our heart sing. We sometimes feel insecure and jealous about other people’s abilities but little do we know that we have something similar to give in this world. But God couldn’t be underestimated. When He created you, He created you big time. The challenge lies in you to discover that. Here are some concrete ways for you to discover your passion:

Page 11: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

a. Pause for a while and withdraw

Take time to quiet down, away from stress and pressure. Take time to just be alone, alone with your God. When you feel at peace, take a look at your life. Listen to your heart. Then answer these questions: Where am I today? Where do I want to be tomorrow? What do I want to do with my life?

b. Look to the past, present, and future for clues to your passion

Remember your childhood and any activities that made you happy. You may have abandoned them only because you thought it was practical, not because you lost your passion for them.

Examine the present. Consider the things you look forward to from day to day--the aspects of your work you enjoy or the activities or thoughts in your life you really love.

Look to the future. Make a list of the things you dream of, and take time to think about what they mean to you now.

Once you have done this, look for connections between the ideas that have emerged. c. Join in activities that would help you discover your gifts

Join clubs and organizations that tinker your interests Participate in competitions and events such as Foundation Day, Alma Mater Week or Culture

Week that would allow you to unleash your talents Join workshops or take lessons for anything that triggers your passion

d. Ask help from loved ones in assessing yourself Ask your family members how they perceive you, and how where you when you were growing

up Ask your friends what they see in you and where you do best Ask help from your school’s guidance counselor Ask advice from your household head and couple coordinator

V. Conclusion God gives abundantly.

“For everyone who has will be given more and he will have abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.” Matthew 25:29 Parable of the Talents.

Just like in the story of the Parable of the Talents, God has given us a lot of gifts, a lot of things that define our passions. May we follow the one who was given five and two talents respectively and came back to Jesus doubling the number. May we increase and put to use our gifts. When God gave them to us, it was for us to use them to glorify Him and to build up our lives. May we not follow the one who was given one talent and chose to bury it. It all starts with believing and claiming the beauty of God’s creation in you. It shouldn’t stem from being envious, but just a response to God’s word that you are blessed. Once you have a positive spirit in you,

Page 12: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

you can surely detect the treasures deep inside you. Your can surely live your life extraordinarily - a life that is truly driven by passion. First Activity: My STORY 1. Distribute a sheet of paper to each participant and a writing material. 2. Instruct the participants the following:

a. Write __ (Name) ___ ‘s STORY on top of the paper. (E.g. Gabie’s STORY) b. Below, assess one’s passion according to the following categories:

S – Strengths T – Topics O – Optimal Conditions R – Relationships Y – Yes!

Second Activity: Group Sharing – “My STORY” 1. Group the participants per household. 2. Start with an opening prayer. 3. Allow each one to share what is written in his/ her assessment of passions through “My STORY”. Workshops Now that we have learned that God has blessed us with our skills, knowledge and specialty, let us discover these to the fullest we can. Everyday will be an opportunity to unravel them and use them in fulfilling God’s plan in us. Specifically today, we will undergo something that would allow us to pinpoint our passions. In CFC FFL Youth, we aim to help each and everyone to discover how to live life to the fullest. As we undergo a certain workshop, let us carry with us these attitudes: a. Let us not be shy – we come here not as experts, but as equals who want to improve ourselves and

discover what we can do. b. Explore – you are not limited to what you already know. You can try other things. c. Enjoy – this is not graded! There is no mistake in what you will do. Dynamics Pre-event 1. Determine the workshops that can be held during the Passion Driven Activity. These are according to

the different ministries mentioned above under Communications, Special Ministries and Family Ministries. This is not a formal training on the ministries, rather, an activity related to the ministries. Therefore, the workshops are just themed after these ministries. We will focus on the skills and knowledge associated to these ministries. It is best to focus on the ministries that are already present in your CFC FFL Youth area.

2. Invite those in community with expertise of the given ministries/ fields. You can also invite non-community experts for as long as they can be guided well that this is a community event. They

should also be guided well by Couple Coordinators or Youth Leaders so that the goals of the activity could be achieved.

3. Each household head of the participants should already give their opinion as to what workshop could his/her member could best discover his/her self.

4. Be able to ready activities after the Passion Driven Activity per ministry that could further the discovering of gifts of the members and capture their passion for their service.

CFC YOUTH FOR FAMILY AND LIFE Passion Driven Activity Talk 3: Ready to A.C.T Goals: 1. To be reminded that everything in ourselves is rooted in God and is all out of His great love for us. 2. To realize the importance of glorifying God with all that we have. 3. To be able to live out our true calling to love by sharing our time, talent and treasure.

Dynamics: 1. Begin with the talk proper. 2. Prepare one or two sharers. The team leader and the speaker should brief the sharers about the

objectives of the talk to make sure that the goals of the talk will be achieved and clarified through their sharing.

3. After the talk, a separate worship leader comes in for the final worship. The exhortation is kicking off from the third talk, thus, encouraging the participants to give themselves to God and neighbor for service.

Expanded Outline: I. Introduction We have truly been answered to life’s huge question of “Who I am?” We realized a significant truth, that each of us was made in the own image and likeness of God. That is our true value, our true worth. We are indeed precious in the eyes of God making each of us a “somebody”. We realized how special we are when we learned that God just made a single you and me. We are unique in our own self. God has bestowed passions in us through our skills, knowledge and specialties that differentiate us from the other, allowing us to bring out our purpose in life.

And all these truly prepare us for our true calling in life, the call to love. God’s masterpiece in each one of us is truly the reality of His great love for us, and thus our mission to live loving as well.

“You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” – Galatians 5: 13

II. The Reason for Everything It is therefore an ultimate truth that God is simply the reason for who and what we are. It is Him that comprises our being, and it is Him that truly allows us to build up ourselves for our purpose. And although all these realities allow us to gain self-esteem and confidence, the conclusion of it all is bringing back all the glory to Him. He deserves all our gratitude for His great masterpiece in us. When we learn how to give back everything to God, then we make ourselves fit for His calling. And that call is to love, as we are made of love. In CFC Youth for Family and Life, we are raised to live this calling. Our purpose in the ministry speaks for itself. Part of it quotes “to empower to act in humble service”. We are aimed at allowing ourselves to

Page 15: PURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY - xa.yimg.comxa.yimg.com/.../1846659033/name/CFC+YFL+Purpose+Driven+Activity.pdfPURPOSE DRIVEN ACTIVITY ... Ready to A.C.T. A crucial part of this activity

be molded for us to be of service to people, to love people. This is our purpose of ministry, the purpose that is defined as “acting”. A.C.T., to love God, to love our neighbor To act is to react or work on something that needs help or solution. It is a form of love. When we act, we precisely embrace our whole self, and use our being as that instrument of love. We use our every passion to allow us to be instruments. When we act, we Applause, Contribute, and do a Time-out. A – Applause We give praises to God, we worship. We literally give our thanks to God for His wonderful creation in us. We usually pertain to acting as all action. But we must realize that in our every work, if we put God in the center of it, we applause Him, we please Him.

Given our talents, our passions, it can either make us feel good, or bad. When we get to use them and we find satisfaction, then we get that good feeling. But when we don’t get that satisfaction, we end up feeling a failure that is why we need to worship and bring it all back to the Lord. The goodness that comes from us as we serve people is all from God. It is His victory. And when we feel empty, and it seems that there is nothing more to give, we empty ourselves so God can fill you up once again. C – Contribute We imitate Christ. Just as He has loved us, we choose to love other people as well. Our passions, our being, were all made for a reason, and partly are for us to be able to love our neighbor. The next step to glorifying God for His creation in each of us is to share ourselves to others. We share our time, talent and treasure.

a. Time

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her." – Luke 10: 41-42.

We must always remember that the greatest thing that we can ever give is our presence. Just like Mary who was simply there, we are called to love by committing our utmost presence to the people around us for whatever purpose it may serve them best.

b. Talent

Earlier today, we were given the chance to discover our passion. We saw that each of us has our own uniqueness. Some of us have already discovered these long before. But today, all together, we learn or we are reminded that these gifts that were abundantly showered by God are not meant for our selves alone. We are called to use these to serve other people.

In our community, our passions in form of skills, knowledge and specialties are our concrete way of doing ministry. We therefore were introduced to the different ministries where we can discover more our gifts and at the same time, use them for other people. May we take this as an opportunity to use our passions to the fullest.

c. Treasure

In one way or another, we are gifted materially. Some may have more, and some may have less, but we all have something to give. May we imitate the woman in Jesus’ story, who gave all of the little that was left in her pocket wholeheartedly as compared to those who gave bigger amounts but are just a few of what they have. May we take any chance there is to give something from our pockets to be able to serve and share.

T - Time out

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2: 2

Just like God, we must also learn to take time to rest. One of the downfalls that service can bring is overtiring ourselves, to the point of having to think that it is all about us giving. May we not forget that what we give to others, our time, talent and treasure is still God’s. We are barely instruments. And our bodies as owned by God, we need to give its due rest for it to be ready for more opportunities to serve.

III. Conclusion We began the day knowing God indeed loves us all so much by the way He created us. As He made us according to His own image and likeness, it placed us in a pedestal. But it didn’t end there. God gave us ways to mold more His creation in us, making ourselves unique, and ready for a certain purpose. But what makes us truly whole is when we start to give ourselves back to God, and to this world He has created for us to live in. In is when we start to act, and impart that masterpiece in us for a bigger cause, that we get to live our purpose in life.

This is what allows us to be more whole. This indeed gives us a drive to live. To live loving ourselves, God’s creation in us. To live loving other people. To live loving God. Introduction to the CFC FFL Youth ministries The different ministries we have in CFC FFL Youth are our concrete venue to be able to A.C.T. The workshops earlier allowed you to discover your passions. You may have discovered that what you experience is where your passion is, then therefore further that through that certain ministry it was themed after. You are not limited to that ministry, you can chose others as well. Guidelines for the introduction (note to the Team Leader) 1. Have a creative introduction to the CFC FFL Youth ministries either through a production number, or

a video.
