Purple Line Extension Construction Updates

Wilshire/Western Work Moves UndergroundNow that the design-builder has completed the 10-day extended closure adjoining the WilshireBl/Western Av intersection, much of the work between Western Av and Manhattan Pl will proceedunderground.

While directional lane closures may be necessary, full weekend closures of westbound Wilshire Bl willnot be needed for the next several years—when workers restore Wilshire Bl to its original condition.Work will continue, however, on constructing an underground shaft on the north side of Wilshire Bl.

The shaft is necessary to extract the tunnel boring machines once they have cut twin tunnelsbetween the La Brea Station and the Western Station. Then they will be disassembled. Pieces will bebrought to the surface via the shaft now being built and trucked back to the La Brea Station.

Why is this necessary? The Western Yard does not have the space needed to store the gigantictunnel boring machines!

Jet Grouting Moves Between San Vicente Bl and Crescent Heights Bl On Saturday, March 10, jet grouting activities will move to new locations on Wilshire Blvd. betweenCrescent Heights Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd. The work zone and closure will be established in thecenter lane of Wilshire Blvd. using K-rail, fencing and sound blankets. Metroand the City of Beverly Hills will be looking forstakeholder feedback the work hours and schedulerelated to piling, decking and support activities. Clickhere for event details.

Advanced Utility Relocation Continues inSection 2 Advanced utility relocation (AUR) activities resumedin February for the Wilshire/Rodeo station and willcontinue in the current location through March 2018.The majority of the work this month will occurbetween Crescent Dr and Canon Dr, on the northside of Wilshire Bl. During the hours of 9am to 4pm,Wilshire Bl will be reduced to 2 lanes in eachdirection from Crescent Dr to Beverly Dr.

For the Century/Constellation Station, AT&T and theDepartment of Water and Power (DWP) will continueto perform AUR work on Constellation Bl, east ofAvenue of the Stars from 8am to 3pm and from 8pmto 6am daily. The design-build contractor, Tutor-Perini/O&G (TPOG) will soon begin preparations toinstall soundwalls around the perimeter of thestaging yard located on Century Park East, just northof the California Rehabilitation Institute.

Section 3 Pre-Construction Update

Advanced Utility Relocation has Begun in Westwood From now through April 2018, there will be trench investigations taking place to verify the locationsof some underground telecommunications cables. This nighttime work requires a few lane reductionsand intermittent turn restrictions.

Advanced utility relocation (AUR) is planned to start in April 2018 and finish in April 2020. Work willtake place on nights and weekends only. This work clears the way for station construction andensures continued utility service for the duration of the project. Utilities include telecom, gas, water,electricity, and sewer.

It was a great month for Eat Shop Play catering orders! Cafe Americano fed many local businessowners at the Wilshire/Western Lunch and Learn, hosted by Metro and Skanska-Traylor-Shea inpartnership with Koreatown Youth Community Center. Ca'Brea hosted a Business Interruption Fundworkshop in Koreatown while Bru's Wiffle hosted the workshop for Beverly Hills businesses.
