The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some100 countries, one from each country.
ISO is a non-governmental organization established in 1947. The mission of ISO is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services
History of ISO
ISO 9000 was first published in 1987.It was based on the BS
5750 series of standards from BSI.
BSI has been certifying organizations for their quality
management systems since 1978. Its first certification (FM
is still extant and held by Tarmac, a successor to the original
company which held this certificate. Today BSI claims to certify
organizations at nearly 70,000 sites globally.

How it is work
The process to create an ISO standard is complicated and based on a six step process:Stage 0 (preliminary stage): A study period is underway.Stage 1 (proposal stage): An NP (New Project) is under consideration.Stage 2 (preparatory stage): A WD (Working Draft) is under consideration.Stage 3 (committee stage): A CD/FCD (Committee Draft/Final Committee Draft) is under consideration.Stage 4 (approval stage): An FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) is under consideration.Stage 5 (publication stage): An IS (International Standard) is being prepared for publication.
