Measurements:

● Evening Evergreen card base (cut a piece of A4 in half at 10.5cm, then score along the long side at 14.85cm to create your card base.

● Card insert – Basic White 14.4cm x 10cm ● 2021-2023 DSP Pale Papaya – 14.4cm x 10cm ● 4 x image squares in Basic White – 5.5cm x 5.5cm ● 4 x backing for image squares – Bermuda Bay – 6cm x 6cm ● Mechanism strip – Basic White – 23cm x 6cm (score at 6cm, 7cm, 8cm, 9cm) ● Holding strip – Bermuda Bay – 12.3cm x 2cm

Instructions:

1. Using 2 of the Basic White 5.5cm x 5.5cm pieces, stamp the two smaller puffins. Create masks for the same images with the full stick ‘Post it’ notes and put it over the images you have just stamped, then using the Confetti Stamp in the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set, stamp the confetti to fill the background in the Bermuda Bay ink. On another of the 5.5cm x 5.5cm Basic White squares, use the same confetti stamp and cover the whole square. On the last 5.5cm x 5.5cm square, stamp the cake, make a mask and use the lace stamp out of the Tasteful Touches stamp set in the background in Mango Melody ink. Using the Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends, colour the feet and beaks of the puffins. Use the colours of your choice for the cake. On a scrap piece of Basic White stamp the largest of the Puffins and 3 of the little fish from the same Puffin Stamp Set. Colour all these images with the Stampin’ Blends of your choice and cut out using your paper snips. I like to leave a little border around the images. One of the fish will go with the large puffin on the square that you filled with confetti, stick them down. The other two fish can be glued on the square with the cake. Then stick each of the Basic White squares to the Bermuda Bay squares using the Stampin’ Seal.

2. Take the mechanism strip and along the long side score it at 6cm, 7cm, 8cm and 9cm. Fold and burnish all the score lines and give it a good wiggle about to make sure they are free flowing. Fold it into the closed position (see fig 1) and put a fine pencil mark down the edge. Fold it into the open position (see fig 2) and put a fine pencil mark down the edge. Using the Label me Fancy punch, punch out the little ribbon slit. When you then open it out you should have something looking like fig. 3.

Fig 3. The small space between the ribbon slit and the first pencil line you made is where the sentiment that shows when the card is closed will go. I have used the Make a wish! Stamp from the Party Puffins and stamped it with Bermuda Bay. As I made this card for a boy that’s turning four, I stamped up just one of the candles and added it to the 3 to make 4, colour with Stampin’ Blends. Then in the second panel that you penciled off you want to stamp your second sentiment, here I used Happy Birthday in Momento Tuxedo Black. Once you have given the ink time to dry, using a soft eraser, remove your pencil lines.

3. With the mechanism strip in the closed position, take the holding strip and line it

up to the edge of the 6cm square within the strip, centering it (fig. 4). Then gently fold the strip around the edges of the mechanism. Just do it lightly as you want the mechanism to be able to pull freely so you will struggle if it is too tight. Then remove the holding strip and glue just the inside middle bit (fig. 5), then stick it back down when you had lined it up when you folded it (fig. 6). Be careful not to use too much glue as you don’t want it oozing out and affecting the pull motion.

4. Using a very fine layer of glue along the first of the score lines (see fig. 6 above) stick the cake image down (fig. 7). This will then line up to cover your holding strip and make sure it’s all aligned straight. Then repeat the fine line of glue on the second score line and stick down the image of your smallest puffin (fig 8). Repeat with the fine line of glue on the 3rd score line and stick down the dancing puffin (fig. 9). Last but not least put down a fine line of glue along the last score line and stick down the largest of the puffins (fig 10).

5. Feed a little of the Evening Evergreen ribbon through the slit and secure with a staple. I didn’t staple it with the cardstock, just on to itself.

6. Prepare your card base. I stamped the candles on the insert, stamping the extra one for the 4-year-old recipient and coloured using the Stampin Blends. I stuck this on the inside of the card base with the Stampin’ Seal. Then stick the 2021-2023 DSP in Pale Papaya on the front of the card. The measurements mean

there will be a small border all around. You are now ready to adhere your pull mechanism. Close up the flaps that are sticking out of your holding strip. Put a fine amount of glue on the flaps whilst you hold them down (see fig 11). It’s important not to be too heavy handed with the glue as you don’t want it to ooze out on to the mechanism strip. Then stick it down on to the top of the card. Be sure to hold it down and give it a good time to dry before you start pulling on the mechanism to see if it works! Once the glue has had sufficient time to dry, give it a try, pull…. Trust me, this one will wow your recipient.
