10 - PARRY SOUND NORTH STAR • Wednesday, July 22, 2009
A great volunteerLarry Barnes, left, holds a mock cheque with RBC regional vice-president Lauri Petz, Sail Parry Sound president Larry Woolner, Parry Sound Mayor Richard Adams and Sail Parry Sound past-president Marianne King-Wilson looking on last month. Barnes, the local RBC branch manager, received the RBC award for volunteer contributions made in the community. The local man, who is involved with the Optimist Club, Sail Parry Sound, the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame and the Regional Economic Development Advisory Committee, among other organizations, was given a pat on the back by his employer in recognition for positive differences he’s made in Parry Sound. As a recipient of the company’s Spirit Award, Barnes was allowed to choose a charity that would receive $1,000 from RBC. Barnes decided to give to the Canadian Yachting Association’s Sail Parry Sound program. Those who nominated Barnes said he is a keen supporter of the community, and has taken a leadership role in making the town a better place to live and work. Of 1,500 RBC employees in the Ontario North East region, nine received the company’s award.
