John Jezl4.0 out of 5 stars A neat and creative collection of short storiesFebruary 9, 2015 Format: Paperback
This is a neat and creative collection of short stories. I enjoyed them all. They vary a bit in writing quality, but any borderline writing was always backed up by an intriguing idea. And vice-versa. Some, such as Allison Hadley's Climbing Up the Rabbit Hole, were excellent.
If you like the alternative takes on Fairy Tales (a la Gregory Maguire's Wicked or Mirror, Mirror), you'll likely enjoy this book. It's a fun, quick, pleasant read.

What lovely stories about our "best friends"! I especially loved the story "Dog Days of Autumn" by Sharon Frame Gay, a story filled with poignancy about a missing owner and the enormous love and heartache we share with our canine friends. All stories were well written and will make you laugh and cry over the shared joys of being a dog owner. A must read!

I won this book on Goodreads. The stories are short enough to read entire story in a short time. Great for having with you when you have an appointment and you're in the waiting room. I was little surprised that several stories were written by the same author. That wasn't a bad thing because the stories had the same characters and stood alone but built on each story.

A pretty good collection of short stories. I won't comment on DISMANTLE, since I wrote it and am biased, but the thing I loved was the endless creativity each writer brought to the table. No two visuals were the same, and everyone's style was different and clear. I found a few stories had too much talk and not enough action to be involved in, but it was great to be transported out of reality for a moment and simply live in a world of fantasy and steampunk wonder.

Here are a number of Pirate stories to amuse you. The Novella, my favorite, brings you right into the daily lives of the pirates. You are in the terrible storm, feel the ease of capturing ships and getting their bounty. I can hear the songs, see the women and partake in the drinking of rum, oh so much rum! Memories of your history classes are brought back along with the Spanish Inquisition.
I love sailing stories and truly enjoyed these works!

Description:
Hot, spicy and layered with sexuality on all dimensions. Engaging Rachel is designed to make steam, and with each page turning adventure, you get it every time.
From the moment Anderson engages Rachel, they become partners, lovers and accomplices as their adventures intersect the Mossad, Russian Intelligence, law enforcement, counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics operations. As they grow together, Anderson gets the impression that the tabula rasa he has engaged has a past that has been completely erased from the Net. In fact, his nemesis and boss, the Deputy Director of Operations, has planted her own counter-espionage agent in the lair of her prize rogue agent.
Is this fact what ultimately determines whether the phenomenally effective team will thrive and continue, or crash and burn.
Praise:May 9, 2018 4 out of 5 starts
“Anderson” is my name.”Farnsworth clearly is in the know about the concerns of intelligence agents and presumably about some of their operating procedures. His main character, writing in the first person, is a rogue CIA agent, working under the radar and without specific authorization but thinking always outside the box about large scale concerns. The big concern here is nothing less than preventing another 9/11 terrorist attack by different methods. In this he has considerable success, with the help of “Rachel,” a beautiful woman he first sees holding a sign reading only “RIDE?” at the side of a road in Los Angeles. He hires her as his assistant and the payment he offers suggests a nearly unlimited expense account. Her identity is more than obscure but he asks no questions about that, even as her high intelligence and useful skills emerge. They quickly become lovers in an “in your dreams” sort of way, which becomes a major theme of the book. A pair of Israeli agents, also working under the radar, become friends and collaborators with the main characters. Along the way, there is quite a lot of violence.-R. James Tobin/Amazon Customer

Description:
John Fulghum Mysteries is full of neo-nior short stories dedicated to the Private Investigator, John Fulghum, that just happens to be a decent, brilliant former war hero and gumshoe. Working out of an unlikely second-story office in Greater Boston, he solves crimes that no one else will handle because they do not fit the parameters or jurisdiction of normal police work. They are dirty crimes, involving savage methods and little-understood societal forces most people would rather ignore than address.
In the process of solving his crimes, Fulghum, often at the risk of his life, works with his like-minded friends, Officer Nigel Pounce of Boston Homicide, Randy Mortenson-the ex-Special Forces soldier, or Kenneth Mander-the shadowy clandestine CIA operative.
Fulghum lives on the edge of the law and always beyond the limits of propriety, and his solutions do not extend to the politically-correct society that condones and often harbors the evil criminals that he hunts down. His solace for being a cleaner-up of filth lies in his racing forms, his Jack Daniels whisky and his Marlboro cigarettes.
His life is a series of journeys and returns, but the center of his universe remains the same: honor and justice in a world without either.

“Reviewed by Ross A. Phelps (Author of Lleyellyn)*****This collection of interrelated noir crime stories is a far cry from the tales of gumshoes tracking figurines made on the island of Malta or delving into backroom deals involving the Los Angeles water supply. No Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart or Jack Nicholson private eyes here.
It’s true, John Fulghum, private investigator, has a dingy upstairs office and enjoys his Marlboros, Jack Daniels, and betting on the ponies. His cases could be ripped from today’s headlines. His clients are old friends from his military past, law enforcement colleagues, clandestine government agents, officers of multinational corporations, members of Congress, and the like. And he gets paid more. A lot more. …”
