From Fredrik Roijé’s Square series, the Square Chair is a combination of different shaped wood to form fully-functional furniture with an unusual design. It can be compared to Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s Berlin Chair but with a more modernist approach.

Samsung Proxima is a revolutionary concept by Johan Loekito, an Industrial Design graduate. It’s a wristwatch and mobile phone in one with a sensor. The built-in sensor will sound an alarm should the phone go beyond the limited proximity, hence, the tagline, “Never lose your phone again”.

Brazil Chair • (price upon request) www.danielwidrig.com

Unconventionally functional, this three-legged chair is more like a pre-historic artifact than a lounging tool.

The intricate design of the Brazil armchair features a structural forked system that branches out from the floor and smoothly transforms into armrests, a backrest and a seating surface in one fluid movement.

Designer Daniel Widrig applies the techniques used in aerospace, automotive and biomechanics industries to digitally construct the complex framework which was manually assembled, glued and hand finished. This limited-edition armchair will make any design savant fall off their chairs.

01 • Asterisco Hub•(price upon request) www.joelescalona.com02 • Circle Lamp by De Padua EUR 1320.0003 • Lavazza’s A Modo Mio Espresso Maker • GBP 119.00 each http://storeuk.lavazza.com

Yes, this is an espresso maker. It may look like a toy of some sort

but this eye candy can steam, froth and foam a cappuccino or latte like any other espresso maker. What sets it apart from other brands is it comes with its own water tank and steam nozzle which is perfect in foaming your choice of drink.

Each Lavazza’s A Modo Mio capsule contains 7.5g of coffee which is the same dose used by the established cafes. It also comes with seven different blend options to cater to everyone’s taste.

Its retro chic and capsule-like design will send some nostalgic feel but it can sit prettily in any modern

kitchen countertops. Though the body is made out of plastic, the two-tone glossy finish makes A Modo Mio look expensive.

Whether you’re craving for a macchiato or a triple shot latte, Lavazza’s A Modo Mio will surely fire up your caffeine rush in no time.

A charming eye-catcher, the Asterisco Hub is the perfect example of function-ality by design. USB ports in devices such as laptops and desktops often have very little space between each other, making it very hard for the user to plug multiple USB devices at the same time. By producing a USB hub with multiple output slots in the charming figure of an asterisk, the usage of a single slot is maximized without the use of messy and tacky wires. It comes in bright hues of red, purple, green and blue.

Minimal but not plain, Circle Lamp’s design merges function and art. The Circle Lamp is an award-winning craft of Swedish designer Monica Förster for Italian brand De Padua. Its clever design can surprisingly blend with any interiors of your room.

Made from iron and aluminum, its lamp post forms an arc that gives the lamp more room to lighten up the area, and the merging of the post to the base is simply seamless. The shade is similar to a crowned hat that tops this glorious masterpiece of a floor lamp. This floor lamp uses an energy-efficient fluorescent light that brightens up the room as much as 150W incandescent light would do. Now seeing one of these in any modern house is a bright idea.

Whoever said that time is gold haven’t seen Attrito’s black and blue elegance.

Synchronizing time and design is what Attrito digital clock aims for. Attrito, ‘friction” in Italian, consists of two bars which hang parallel to each other. Its digital time display uses a cutting-edge machining process which is also used in Apple Macbooks. This allows the numbers to be invisible until they pass over the LED in the correct position. The clock poles then display the hours on the left bar, while the one on the right counts the minutes of each hour in increments of five. The two LEDs synchronize together to ease the transition from one number to the next. While one number is dimmer, the other is bright and bold and they switch at the precise moment the time changes. I bet you didn’t get all of that, did you?

Blame the designer Shane Roepe for giving us such elegant looking digital clock. Now, we’ll never see time the same way again.

“It’s a club of twenty guys who got together and they’re going to buy 2000 bottles of Dom Pérignon which they will put in a sealed room until the year 2000 and then open it up and drink it and so the running joke is who will be around and who won’t…” This is an excerpt from Andy Warhol’s diary dated March 8th, 1981 that inspired the people of Dom Pérignon to pay tribute to Warhol and permitted their design to be tampered for the first time. Dom commissioned the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martin to redesign its iconic bottle and presented in the way Warhol would do if he was still alive. The result is an eye-popping collection of three bottles splashed with red, yellow and blue labels. Nothing does a perfect homage to the father of pop art like a bottle of bubbly.

The back is made of a single urethane sheet and drawn tight from the seat pan to the top of a Y-shaped frame. The SAYL is Herman Miller’s most affordable chair ever. Especially created for Vienna Design Week, the “Vin-dobona” includes handcrafted silver and gold drinking tumblers as well as alternative collars to turn the carafes into vases. Swedish design group Claesson Koivisto Rune worked in partnership with Viennese glass and chandelier producer, J. & L. Lobmeyr as they fashioned a collec-tion of mouth-blown crystal glass carafes with engraved patterns. Bring flowers into your home and adore this feminine touch in class glass.

British designer Riccardo Bovo used math to turn an otherwise mundane object into a brilliant piece of art. Lightweight and comfort-able, this stool is one great example of a piece that has both form and function.

DIY craft took on another level; Lauren Tennenbaum took the neck-breaking heels into a work of art. Spinal Wedges originated as a curious venture to see if it were “pos-sible to hack your way into a pair of see-through heels.” From there on, the killer stripper heels became obses-sions, which turned out to be exceptionally scrupulous to create. It became an anthology of distinctive, very unique textures and designs. Sacrificing style for comfort, attention-whore soles, Tennenbaum’s series is NOT for the wallflowers.

Nixon combined wood with stain-less steel in the new version of The Chronicle time piece which creates a distinct but stylish look. The wooden material adds up a subtle statement giving the classic watch a contempo-rary feel.

The brainchild of designer Andreas Licht, HERRLICHT perfected the art of wooden frame-making and became famous with their designs and craftsmanship. HERRLICHT wood frames are made of 100% wood- maple, pear or walnut. Each pair of glasses is exclusively made to order and is in no way mass-produced.

Laurie Beckerman, a New York-based designer, created this unusual chair called Ionic Bench. It is made from one-inch thick Baltic birch plywood; the bench’s profile is cut out 18 times with the use of CNC technology. The slices are laminated together for a strong, curvaceous form. The surfaces that reveal the plies are finely sanded and coated with a high–quality Italian acrylic; the result is a seat that is sensu-ously smooth to the touch.

This one is for iPhone savvies who would like to protect their priced gadget in an unconventional way. The Vers wooden case is hand-crafted from solid hardwoods or bamboo that has steel pin reinforced corners for added strength, soft and scratch-resistant lining with durable moisture-resistant clear coat, and large radii for easy pocket & bag access.

Finally, there’s a clean, safe and stylish bottle that is made from the practically inexhaustible resources of bamboo and glass. Bamboo gives our bottles style and strength. The glass guarantees safe, clean drinking at all temperatures. Whether you’re chugging ice-cold water or sipping on steaming-hot tea, this über-cool bottle is BPA-free, ensuring no chemicals leach into your drink.

On a website, Nishi tells us that she dipped snake and cayote bones in silver to fashion the chic bracelet. Available in an adjustable size, this is a must–have for women who are into gothic glam.

Taking from the idea behind wooden dinosaur puzzle kits, Pedro Mealha’s Rhizome is a carefully assembled frame for the ultramodern desk lamp. This incredibly flexible light source is made from aluminum and 3mm bamboo ply. Flat wooden panels make up its three-dimensional design that is extraordinarily intricate.

A highly durable iPad protective sleeve by SwitchEasy, the rib-like structure shields the screen of the iPad from scratches, knock and bumps. It truly is a redefinition of tough. Heavy-duty leather is then pressure molded to form the ribcage which results in a radical and functional design.

A skeletal stiletto with an organic spine heel. DSQUARED2 came up with the collection for their Fall/ Winter 2010 collection. High-heeled boots and shoes are reinvented through the balance between the strange and sophisticated.

From his Vanitas collection, the Ukraine born product designer puts the words “heavy-metal” and “furniture” together. There is a fine subtlety in this chair’s form, as you can only see the skull from a certain distance. Produced from wood, polyester, glass fiber, his goal was to integrate the idea of death with modern design.

Technical needs meet personal taste. DJs will lust over this sweet piece.

A custom-built turntable designed for music scratchin’ junkies, the Berlin-based Metrofarm is the vanguard house for this high-end limited collection. Metrofarm is well-known for fine bespoke DJ Desks since 1999. Since then balearic beats, acid house, and liquid funk have never ‘looked’ the same.

A desk with folded stainless steel, concrete legs and linoleum, and a wooden DJ desk that attaches to the wall will elicit a collective sigh from any design-conscious techie miser. Even we cannot help but admire the finishes and materials, which were hand-picked and molded to suit the aesthetics and requirements of the client. Customized to fit any audio equipment, DJ Desk comes with a range of styles, colors, and installation methods.

We say pump up the volume. Jump. Gyrate. Bust out your caterpillar or moonwalk moves. Deceptively simple and functional, DJ Desk will carry on the old-time tradition of bringin’ loud, pumpin’ music full blast.

A cordless phone strapped to a speaker. Sounds simple? It is, maybe.

But don’t be deceived by its illusion of simplicity. BeoCom 5 applies the same ideals of superior competences that made Bang & Olufsen world-renowned. Its innovative speaker phone/hands-free feature is made practical and enjoyable, while still offering something quite unique for a cordless phone in the form of a speaker that lets you listen as if you are talking to someone beside you. A distinct com-ponent in the BeoCom 5 is its natural speech reproduction feature that can differentiate voices so you know who is who all the time. This allows you to tell apart even Aunt Susie from Ms. Know-It-All, even when several people speak at once.

BeoCom 5 also has the facility to connect single base units to two separate landlines and use the handset to switch between each. It’s like having two separate phone lines, letting you combine a regular landline with IP telephony, or possibly use one line for private calls and the other for work, if you have a home office. It stores up to an amazing 400 contacts and capacity of 100 hours/12 hours standby/talk time with a 50 meter indoor range.

With BeoCom 5, you always get the message loud and clear.

Escargot, anyone?Striking, sleek and deceptively light

enough (2.1 kg) to carry or be rolled around, this ultra-modern vacuum cleaner lets you get rid of alikabok in style.

Toshiba teamed up with Electrolux to design a circular, snail-like vacuum that packs 40 percent more air-wattage than (the more popular) Dyson hand-held. That extra wattage, though, does not equate to more noise. Surprisingly, the aptly named Escargot vacuum is even quieter than a hair dryer (65 dB). Think of it as a steel purse with a suck-ing punch.

Its unique cyclone shape proves to be an added advantage. Not only does this set it apart from most cleaning ap-paratuses, its contour provides a body for the tube to wrap itself—making it more compact and small enough to fit in any cabinet. But seriously, who wants to hide such beauty?

Just uncoil its flexible hose and con-nect one of the four nozzles or brushes, then watch it attack those pesky cob-webs, dust and other unmentionables. A neat-freak French delicacy, the Toshiba Escargot Vacuum is a minimalist house device that sucks nooks and crannies like no other invertebrate or mollusk can.

This is not your old folk’s gramophone. Analogue playback is fast gaining popularity and is bringing us back to nostalgic memories of our grandma twisting to the Shirelles.

Innovation and precision combined with time-honored craftsmanship are the basis for the limited manufacture of Acoustic Solid turntables. Polished and sand-blasted by Acoustic Solid’s own craftsmen, the brand takes pride

in painstakingly making beautiful and functional machines.

Hum along to a high-precision “zero tolerance” comportment with a heavy 60mm thick aluminum platter that operates as a powerful flywheel to ensure smooth, cogging-free rotation. The use of a separately located motor and a microprocessor-controlled power supply gives an ex-ceptionally efficient mode of avoiding

residual motor vibration from reach-ing the platter and disturbing the stylus. It’s also got three individually adjustable feet decoupled by Teflon® discs for stability and support. An all-metal turntable with “The Conductor” air suspension linear tracking tone arm and “The Cartidgeman” phono cartridgecan hold up to three tone arms, making any audiophile happily dancing to mod be-bop.

Audio timepiece, wrist-luxe, the Opera Three Watch is an existential-ist’s dream.

It incorporates an ultra-miniatur-ized music box which is able to sound the passing hours with a melody. A lever plays and personalizes its mu-sic—a simple choice of two different tunes, to match the wearer’s mood.

This phenomenal technical achievement is based on a Girard-

Perregaux in-house built mechanism, namely the GP 00950.9100, which has a size of just around 13.2 mm, but incorporates no less than 45 jewels and has a power reserve of 50 hours minimum.

The case is also rather sturdy, manufactured from white gold. It also features a sapphire crystal face and is equipped with a see-through case-back fastened with seven screws.

A promising collector’s item, Opera Three Watch will be in tune to your time fixation and mood swings.

Shutterbugs will go ballistic with the extraordinary quality and style of the newest Leica.

Leica launches a “very special limited edition” version of its classic 35mm rangefinder system camera, with the launch of the new Leica M7 Hermès Edition.

Offers a total of 200 silver chrome LEICA M7 cameras finished in especially selected calfskin leather, supplied by Hermès, one may choose between two striking varieties: ‘Ètoupe’ and ‘Orange.’ Take note: Only 100 cameras are available in each of the two leather colors.

The LEICA M7 Edition Hermès puts emphasis in every detail. The top deck is engraved with the Leica name in its classic script form. The red Leica roun-del is deliberately omitted to preserve the color synchronization expressed by its extravagant leather covering. All control elements of the LEICA M7 Edition Hermès are manufactured exclusively in metal. The back of the camera is also finished in silver chrome. The standard red of the engraved ‘AUTO’ settings on the shutter speed dial is replaced by the leather’s hue. The technical specifications and the content of this special edition camera set are otherwise identical to those of the standard LEICA M7.

The Leica M7 Hermès Edition set includes a Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH wide-angle lens, a matching classic round lens hood, a LEICAVIT M rapid winder and a real leather carrying strap matched to the color of the camera, all delivered in a linen-covered, silk-lined box.

What goes splendidly well with a modernist’s entertainment space is a flashy red speaker.

Never meant to be tucked away, Aliante’s Ferrari Red Speaker is an exceptional loudspeaker that does extremely well in natural music repro-duction and ultra-precise imaging.

The extremely solid and heavy cabinet virtually reduces enclosure reverberations. Included with these loudspeakers are “Acoustic Screens” — small pieces that are meant to be placed just below and to the side of the tweeter to improve the imaging

and the focus capacity of the sound they reproduce.

Melody scale’s even coherency allows for a very natural harmonic configuration. Its ability to follow complex passages shows its definite power in delivery, principally because of the immobile cabinet design combined with high quality drivers and a crossover package.

For more punch and style, the matching Vela Stand complements the fiery red speaker to a T. The solid structure provides a buffer and assists in lower frequency reproduction.

Homemade dinners will be more sensually appetizing while sexy saxophones play in the backdrop, smooth sound guaranteed. Possible lip-lock included.

The arrival of Pathos cemented its posi-tion in high-fidelity world.

The 45-watts RMS per channel Pure Class-A integrated amplifier con-sistently delivers well-balanced musi-cality, transparency, and tonal color all because of INPOL®, the exclusive worldwide patented feedback-free circuitry which has been claimed to represent the most important in-novation in musical amplification in recent years.

Highly selected components, pure silver Pathos signal wiring and crafts-manship of the highest level, are the most fitting compliments to the Twin Towers. Today, the TT is available in

its original volume configuration—a purely resistive 24-step manual volume control or a remote controlled version—an optical device which drives a battery of read relays (vacuum packed, thorium contacts), which in turn drive a net-work of precision resistors (1% metal layer) in 1dB steps. Available in three versions: Classic (C): manual 24-step resistive volume, Reference Remote (RR): remote resistive volume in 1dB steps, Anniversary like the TT RR with balanced input.

Originality of industrial design, exclusivity in circuit topology, and sincerity in sonic reproduction, the TT subsists for music enthusiasts all over.
