Pilgrimage for Youth is an all-

expenses-paid educational trip to

visit the United Nations in New

York as well as other sites in

NYC, and historical sites along

the East Coast, including

Philadelphia, Washington D.C.,

Gettysburg and Ottawa, Canada.

It is sponsored by the Bandon

Odd Fellows Lodge No. 133.

Each year, applicants from

Bandon High School, Pacific

High School or home-schooled

students are invited to write an

essay and be interviewed by a

panel of Odd Fellows members.

They are chosen based on their

essay, as well as evidence of

leadership, character, concern for

community welfare and interest

in world affairs.

The UNEP was created by the

Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in

1949 to bring high school stu-

dents from around the world

together to learn about the

United Nations. The Bandon

Odd Fellows have been sending

between three and six local stu-

dents each year for more than 50

years.

Students must be at least 16

years old by the time of the trip

and have at least one year of high

school left.

This year, students must write a

minimum 500-word essay on the

following topic “Describe the

Involvement of the United

Nations in a Current World

Affair.”

Additionally, students must

write approximately a 50-word

essay on the following topic

“Why you would like to partici-

pate in this trip.”

Essays are due to the Bandon

High School office by 3:30 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 4. Interviews of

essay finalists will be held at the

Bandon Odd Fellows Hall at 2

p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Students should dress appropri-

ately for an interview.

The Pilgrimage will be from

Saturday, July 8, 2017 through

July 18, 2017, with the send-off

dinner at the state Odd Fellows

Lodge in Portland being held on

Friday, July 7, 2017.

Driver class from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The AARP Safe Driver course offers people an important opportuni-

ty to learn how to drive more efficiently and safely. The course con-

tains up-to-date information about changes over time in ourselves,

our vehicles, our roads and our laws. The content of this course can

help boost safety awareness, refresh and improve driving skill, mini-

mize crash risk, increase confidence, prolong mobility and maintain

independence.

Completion of this one-day, six-hour driving refresher course can

yield discounted auto insurance premiums for individuals 55 and

over. The course fee for AARP members is $15 or $20 for non-mem-

bers, and is payable to AARP at the class.

BANDON – The Bandon Historical Society Museum is inviting people with militarycollections to put their material on exhibit for a day as part of the museum’s VeteransCelebration on Saturday, Nov. 12, the day after Veterans Day.The veterans event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission will be free for the day

and the public is invited. Military vehicles will be on display outside.Museum volunteer and Air Force veteran Rick Hinojosa is the organizer for the veter-

ans event. Several collectors shared collections at the museum last year.“Collectors like to have a chance to show their stuff and share their knowledge,” said
