She regularly competes at agricultural, top level breed and Royal Shows. She has presented and
successfully shown her own, her family’s and clients horses and ponies for the past 25 years which
have included wins and places at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. She has competed successfully in
all facets of show horse classes at the highest level.
She has presented, trained and shown in hand Riding Ponies in New Zealand to win and place highly
at the Royal New Zealand Show 2007 and also showed young stock Riding Ponies to success at the
2007 New Zealand Grand National Show held in Christchurch. She also briefly coached the young
riders of these ponies. Both young riders went on win their relevant pony classes, one taking Novice
Champion B ring pony and the other, Reserve Novice Champion A ring pony at the 2007 Royal New
Zealand Show.
A seeming lack of information and confusion for both competitors and judges in Australia, regarding
the correct type of horse to be termed a “hunter,” including subsequent dress and etiquette for these
classes led Samantha to research extensively as to what correctly constitutes a hunter, from the type of
horse suitable to the appropriate turnout of horse and rider.
From this, Samantha has been instrumental in facilitating the Australian Hunter Horse Association
where she is co-founder and listed judge. She has a sound understanding of the necessary criteria to
judge not only saddle hunter classes, but also side saddle, working hunter and the exacting criteria
required for Saddle Hunter turnout, judging this class at the New Zealand Royal Show in 2008. She
has judged hunters under saddle and working hunter classes extensively at agricultural shows, the
2010 State and National Australian Hunter Horse Association Championships, 2010 Hobart Royal
Show and 2011 Royal Canberra Show.
She is also called upon to provide advice to both competitors and judges individually regarding what
is appropriate for the hunter ring.
Additionally, Samantha is called upon regularly as a guest speaker at varying official Judges and
Competitor Seminars both nationally and in New Zealand.
She is a regular writer for Hoofbeats and New Zealand Show Circuit magazine, has written in depth,
highly researched articles on the Show Hunter and Attire for the Hunter ring for Horse Shows
magazine. This specific article on hunter type was also requested, reproduced and published in the
New Zealand Pony Breeders Journal. She has also written articles for New Zealand Collecting Ring
and Equestrian Life magazines.
She currently competes her purebred Arabian small Galloway, “Jimmy Choo,” when time permits, in
both his In hand and under saddle purebred Arabian classes and open Galloway hack classes where
she loves to fly the flag for the true versatility of the Purebred Arabian Horse.
