Loading Parameters into Siemens G120 Variable Frequency Drive

used on Fusion™ concrete batch plantsThis guide discusses the procedure for loading operating parameters into the Siemens G120 VFD. These VFDs are used to control the speed of feeder belts and collecting conveyor belt on Fusion™ concrete batch plants. The procedure will use the Intelligent Operator Panel (IOP) located on the front of the VFD. The VFDs are located in the main electrical panel on the aggregate blending unit.

The IOP can be used to load parameters into the VFD in the event that:

• Parameters become corrupted

• You suspect unusual VFD activity

• A new VFD has just been installed

• The VFD has had a master reset performed on it.

Parameters will be loaded onto the VFD's internal drive from a backup SD card installed in the VFD. This is a specific type of SD card, as shown in Figure 1.

NOTE: Other types of SD cards, such as those sold at retail stores, etc., will not work.

Check to see that the proper SD card is installed in the VFD, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.

If you do not have one of these SD cards, they are available from the CEI Parts Department, part # 0101129.

CEI recommends having one of these SD cards installed in each VFD on your Fusion plant. This will assist with parameter backup, and reduce downtime in the event they are needed.

The Siemens VFDs used by CEI are specific to the horsepower of the motor being controlled. If you find that you need a new VFD, please refer to the replacement parts table at the end of this Service and Troubleshooting Guide.

Procedure1. Select either the Collecting

Conveyor or Feeder IOP, depending on which component you will be working with. If the VFD has just started up, and the IOP screen is displaying the message shown in Figure 4, you must wait until the VFD has sufficiently powered up and is ready to use or program.

When the VFD is ready to be used, the screen will display the message shown in Figure 5.

Note the icons in the upper right corner of the screen. The icon indicates that the VFD is under the normal AUTO control of the plant's control system. The HAND - AUTO button at the bottom of the VFD toggles between AUTO control mode and HAND control mode. When in HAND control mode, a hand icon will appear as shown in Figure 5-A. The icon will be still when the VFD is idle, and will rotate when the VFD is running.

The parameter loading procedure can be done in either AUTO or HAND mode. The VFD should be idle before performing the procedure.

The OK button is activated by pressing the round knob inward. Selections are changed by rotating the OK button either left or right.

We advise using two fingers to press the OK button, as it is easy to accidentally rotate the button and accidentally select the wrong option.

The ESC button undoes the previous selection.

2. Use the rotary wheel with the OK at the center to highlight the Menu tab at the bottom of the screen. Press the OK button to select the Menu tab (Figure 6).

3. Use the rotary wheel to scroll down until you get to the Up / Downloads tab. Press the OK button to select it (Figure 7).

4. Use the rotary wheel to scroll down to highlight the Memory card to drive tab.

Press the OK button to select it (Figure 8).

The VFD will prompt you to select which parameter set to upload.

Feeder Belts5. To set parameters for any of the

Feeder Belts, do the following:

5a. Use the rotary wheel to set the value to 1 (Figure 9).

5b. Press the OK button to select parameter set 1.

Collecting Conveyor6. To set parameters for the Collecting

Conveyor, do the following:

6a. Use the rotary wheel to set the value to 2.

6b. Press the OK button to select parameter set 2.

7. The VFD will ask you if you want to continue (Figure 10). Select Continue and press the OK button.

8. The VFD will display the status of the parameter set up/download and notify you when it has been completed (Figures 11 and 12).

9. After it has completed, (Figure 12), press downward on the SD card in the slot on top of the VFD until it pops up about 1/8" (Figure 13). Completely remove the SD card from the VFD.

10. Locate the appropriate circuit breaker feeding the VFD that you just loaded parameters into. (See labels on the back panel of the electrical box).

11. Rotate the handle to the OFF position, removing power from the VFD (Figure 14).

NOTE: the VFD is powered off only when the lights and panel are black. This may take up to 5 minutes.

12. Wait approximately 30 seconds after the display goes blank and rotate the circuit breaker handle to the ON position, restoring power to the VFD (Figure 15).

NOTE: It may take up to 2 minutes for the VFD to fully re-boot after resetting the parameters.

13. Reinstall the SD card into the VFD.

14. The VFD is ready to run when the run screen is displayed, as shown earlier in Figure 5.
