Great North Greats at Discovery Museum, Blandford Square, Newcastle, NE1 4JASaturday 15 August - Sunday 18 October, free entry, family friendlyCome and explore Tyneside’s incredible sporting and industrial heritage, to find out more about our very own Great North Greats. Also showing: Objects to See Further, a film by artist-in-residence Matt Stokes, which tells the stories of four Tyneside pioneers during the Victorian Era.
Layla Curtis, Heatscapes at The Gallery, Tyneside Cinema, Pilgrim Street Newcastle, NE1 6QGThursday 10 September - Sunday 4 October, free entry, family friendlyA multiscreen installation by artist Layla Curtis filmed entirely using a thermal imaging camera at last year’s Great North Run. The 2015 Moving Image Commission entitled Heatscapes follows the runners and tracks their body heat as they move along the route, their warmth leaving temporary invisible imprints across the 13.1 miles.
GNR Million: Re:Work, Tal Rosner, Dan Jones and David Almond at Gateshead Old Town Hall, West Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HESaturday 12 September, 6:15pm, tickets: £5, £3 concessionsA special one-off event at GNR Million Re:Work is a version of the original projection mapping from the GNR Million Opening Ceremony, accompanied by the original score and with live narration by author David Almond. Reworked for 2015, this is an opportunity to experience the GNR Million Opening Ceremony in a way never before possible! We recommend this event for a stirring and emotional journey through the past, present and future of the region expressed by artists practicing at the forefront of their craft. Followed by Q&A with artist filmmaker Tal Rosner & author David Almond.
Onward Together As One, along the route of the Great North RunSunday 13 September, free entryA pop-up art installation by Northumbria University graduates Hope Stebbing and Oliver Perry. Large, striking sculpted letters spelling ‘onward’ ‘together’ ‘as one’ are shown in three specific locations around the route of the run. Appearing on the morning of Sunday 13 September and disappearing with the 57,000 runners after the race, we’re certain that these sculptures will inspire all who see them. Be sure to keep a look out!
