Principal’s report

Trivia Night – fabulous!

What a fantastic night was had last Saturday night at

our P&C Trivia Night! Thank you to all of our students,

parents and community members who attended and

made this such a successful event. Thank you to our

tireless P&C committee who ensured a great night for

all. A special thank you to all of the wonderful Junee

businesses who supported our event and generously

donated prizes. Finally a massive thank you to Jason

White our quiz master extraordinaire for his amazing

organisation & running on the night.

Thank you to all of our families and community

members who generously supported our wood raffle.

The winner of the raffle was Lola Cummins.

Over $2000 was raised from our Trivia Night and raffle!

Our P&C were raising these funds to assist with our

school’s massive home and classroom reading

resource upgrade. We already have lots on new

beautiful readers being used by our K-2 children and

lots of new resources are on the way for Stage 2 and 3

classes.

Thank you everyone for supporting our students!

Brock, Craig and Morgan check out some of the new

reading resource kits going into the Stage 2 and 3

classrooms.

University Competitions

Several of our students recently completed the

University of NSW Writing and Spelling competitions.

Each year we provide this opportunity for enrichment

for our students. We have had great success by some

of our students over the years with Distinctions and

High Distinctions being achieved. Later next term

several students will complete the English and

Mathematics competitions.

Thrilling Thursday!!!

As a special treat for our students for their wonderful

efforts and behaviour this term, we are going to hold a

fun day next week. ‘Thrilling Thursday’ will be held next

Thursday 25 June. Children can come dressed up as

their favourite super hero. A free sausage sizzle lunch

will be provided and the day will end with a fun

tabloids session.

Reports

Teachers have been extremely busy preparing our

Semester 1 student reports. These will be sent home

next week. Early in Term 3 notes will be sent home by

teachers regarding Parent-Teacher interviews. A big

focus this year and into the future is in setting learning

goals for our students. These will be indicated on our

new reports so that teachers, parents and most

importantly students know what their focus areas for

next semester will be in order to move their learning

forward. I urge all of our parents and carers to come in

for an interview next term to discuss how they can

support teachers and their children in ensuring these

goals are met successfully.

Term 3 commencement

This is our final newsletter for this term – what an

incredibly busy and fast term it has been! Students

return on Tuesday 14 July to commence Term 3. I

wish all of our students a safe and happy holiday.

Kay

Sports news

Riverina PSSA Cross Country

Congratulations to our team who represented Junee

North at the Riverina Cross Country last Thursday in

Gundagai. Jaxson Allen, Maggie Hawke, Tahlia White,

Kye Wright, Nicholas Richards & Grace Fahy put in a

huge effort and should be very proud of their

achievements. A very special congratulations to

Nicholas Richards who managed to achieve 5th

place.

Nicholas will now go on to run in the State PSSA Cross

Country at Eastern Creek on Friday 17 July.

Super effort Nick! We are proud of you!

Girls soccer

Yesterday our girls travelled to Young to compete in

their next round of the PSSA Girls soccer knockout.

They certainly had true soccer weather in which to

play! Unfortunately Young Public managed to score a

goal late in the game, winning 1-0. Congratulations to

the entire team for their wonderful efforts.

Premier’s Sports Leadership Day

Next Wednesday 24 June all of our Year 5 students

plus our House Captains will attend the Premier’s

Sports Leadership day at Junee High School. Our

school has been involved with this event over the past

three years. It provides our students with some great

leadership skills which they will use back at school next

semester in some whole school organised events.

Health Spot

Mortimer Shield

Several of our Stage 3 boys and girls had the

opportunity to compete in the annual Mortimer Shield

rugby league and league tag day last Friday. Our teams

played several games each throughout the day and

both teams managed to make it into the finals. Whilst

both teams missed out on winning, our

congratulations to them for their terrific enthusiasm

and sportsmanship – well done teams!

What’s happening in our school?

Goal Setting – a vital strategy to improve

learning outcomes

As part of our Assessment for Learning focus, a key

ingredient is not only ensuring that we are meeting the

learning needs of every student, but that our students

(and parents) are aware of what they need to do to

move forward in their learning. Our teachers are now

working with students on learning goals – letting the

children know how they are going, where they need to

go next and how to get there. These goals can be small

immediate focuses such as the correct formation of a

letter or number, or longer term such as developing

faster recall of multiplication tables. As well, many of

our students are setting personal achievement goals.

Our new reports will detail the learning goals in English

and Mathematics for every student over the next

semester.

Tenaya, Matilda, Jake and Liam focus on their individual

goals for the rest of the year.

Mr Baldock and Paige to discuss her progress and where

her focus will be over the second half of this year.

Robotics

We are once again preparing several teams to compete

in this year’s Robo Cup robotics day at CSU. Recently

Mr Hann and several Junee High students assisted our

students in getting to know how to program their

robots.

Jump into High School

Our lucky Year 4 students enjoyed another fabulous

visit to Junee High School on Monday. Staff and

students from Junee High school shared their

knowledge in some very engaging agriculture and

cooking lessons. Our students are extremely fortunate

that these wonderful opportunities are made available

to them by Junee High.

Thanks Junee High – we had a great

time!

P&C News

Wood Raffle

A huge thank you to the families who sold raffle tickets

and many thanks to our small band of helpers who

sold tickets at IGA last Saturday. A big thank you to

Denis Hawke for his assistance in getting the wood

load organised. Our raffle winner was Lola Cummins.

Trivia Night!!!

What a wonderful night! Many thanks to all of the

people who attended on the night, as well as to our

wonderful quiz master Jason White. It was wonderful

to see so many children, parents and community

members having a great time.

A special thank you to our sponsors who generously

donated prizes:

GEO, IGA, Junee Chemist, ANZ Bank, Remax, Total Bliss,

The Crossing Motel, Struan Timms Photography, RSL

Chinese Restaurant, Ag n Vet & The Junee Licorice &

Chocolate Factory.

Next meeting

Our next P&C meeting is next Tuesday 23 June at 6:30

pm.

Student Health Over the next week Mrs Manning will be sending out

forms to parents of our students with asthma. Many

of our parents have indicated that their child suffers

from asthma, but have not provided an up-to-date

Health Care Plan, prepared in consultation with their

family doctor. It is vitally important that we have

accurate information to ensure that we are able to

respond in the event of an emergency. Please return

these plans as soon as possible.

THRILLING THURSDAY!!!

Next Thursday 25 June we will be

holding a fun day to reward our

students for their efforts and

behaviour during the term.

Students may come dressed as their

favourite super hero (or make up their

own super hero outfit!). A free

sausage sizzle lunch will be provided

and an afternoon of tabloids will

finish off our fun day.

Community News

Lock in this date – Thursday 30 July!

This year we will be celebrating our

very own Junee District Public Schools

Education Week at the Athenium.

There will be static displays,

entertainment and a chess

competition. Stay tuned for more

details next term!!
