Newsletter Changes Since the commencement of the Term I have been working with Evette on changing the layout of our newsletter. We are moving towards an electronic copy only of the newsletter which will be published on the website weekly or emailed home. As mentioned previously there are a lot of background changes that need to be made before you may see the changes in the foreground. We appreciate your patience during this transition time. Please contact the office if you cannot access the newsletter electronically. Fee Payment School fees will be coming home this week. If you do not receive your account by Friday please contact Teresa for a reprint. The due date for payment of these fees will be Friday 23rd March. School Photos School Photos will be held on Wednesday 19th March. Full FORMAL uniform is to be worn that day. Please ensure that black shoes are worn. Proofs will be sent home for ordering approx. one week after the photos are taken. Kindy 2013 The development of the kindergarten at St Mary’s is well under way. The Scenic Rim Regional Council has approved our development application and tenders are being called for the construction of the facility. Construction will commence in April/May and the facility completed by the end of September. The kindergarten will be located between the Parish centre and the playground opposite the Prep classrooms. There are still vacancies for 2013 and enrolment information is available from the school office or at www.bne.catholic.edu.au . Enrolment forms will be sent in April to all families that have expressed interest. Your enrolment will be confirmed when these forms are returned but it is anticipated that everyone who has already expressed interest will be accepted. We will have a special focus on teaching the children strategies to stop any bullying that may be happening at school. As parents you could support this by talking to the children about what they should do if they are bullied or see any one else being bullied. For your information, please take a moment to read the attached extract from our Bullying Policy Excursion Fundraising A substantial cost to excursions is the transport getting to and from the excursion. On average the cost for this service is $600.00. Please keep in mind that Pauls Collect-A-Cap is a great way to raise funds for the purpose as we receive 10c for every marked bottle top that we receive. If you have any caps please send them to the office. Playgroup I would like to extend a big thank you to all of you who came along to our first Playgroup. It was great to see so many little people running around and enjoying themselves. Please feel welcome to join us at any time. It is a great way to meet new people. International Women’s Day Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8.

Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic,

political and social achievements of women. This year’s theme is CONNECTING GIRLS,

INSPIRING FUTURES.

John 2:13-2 Jesus throws the merchants out of the Temple

This Friday we will listen to this story. It is a little scary because Jesus becomes very angry

and violent. He became angry because besides desecrating His father’s house with money

changing and the selling of animals for sacrifice, the merchants were probably charging the

poor people who came to offer sacrifices, inflated rates (hence the money changers).

RELIGION

The injustice stirred in Jesus a response of anger and action. As followers of Jesus we are

called to rage against injustice also. Project Compassion informs us of some of the injustices

in the world and provides us with opportunities to help to do something.

Project Compassion, Week 2, brings you the story of Khin. Khin is 10 years old and lives in Ranong, Thailand, just over the border from

Burma. Here the children of migrant workers find it difficult to get into schools. Often they cannot afford fees, do not know the language or do not have the correct paperwork. With support from Caritas Australia, Khin and her friends can attend community-based learning centres offering them primary education and a bridge into Thailand’s school system. Your donation to Project Compassion can help children like Khin to learn and grow towards a more hopeful future.www.caritas.org.au

Green Dress Day

Next Friday is St Patrick’s Day. We will be encouraging the children to wear green for a gold

coin donation. Half of the proceeds will go to Project Compassion and the other half will go

towards fundraising to help minimise costs for excursions.

Making Jesus Real - IS THAT A WANT OR A NEED?

This week our focus is on wants and needs. A need is something you have to have, something you can't do without. A good example is food. If you don't eat, you won't survive for long. Many people have gone days without eating, but they

eventually ate a lot of food. You might not need a whole lot of food, but you do need to eat. A want is something you would like to have. It is not absolutely necessary, but it would be a good thing to have. A good example is music. Now, some people might argue that music is a need because they think they can't do without it. But you don't need music to survive. You do need to eat.

Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Focus for the week is our school rule – Sit, Chew, we

move when we’re through. This falls under the “BE Respectful’ component of our

Program.

Community Netball Challenge

Beaudesert and District Netball Association held a 'Community Netball Challenge' in honour

of the 30 years service to the community. St Mary's registered a staff team in the

competition. The team consisted of Mr Matthew Stark, Mrs Cathy Stark, Mrs Barb Watt, Mr

Michael Watt, Mrs Dianne Hardy, Mrs Karen Hickey, Mr Colin Hickey, Emily Hickey, Miss

Dearne Chapman and Mrs Diane McClure. We collected two awards, Mrs Barb Watt -

Sportsmanship Award and Mr Matthew Stark - Best Dive Award. Despite the rain we had a

great afternoon and thank the Netball club for hosting such an event.

District Rugby League

This Friday Mrs Jamieson and Mr Stark will be taking the under 12 and and under 11 boys

teams to the Beaudesert District trials. We hope the boys play to the best of their ability.

Mobile Muster

We have a collection box in the Office for any mobile phones to be disposed of. We send the

old phones to Mobile Muster for recycling.

More than 90% of the materials in mobile phones can be recovered

Materials recovered can be used to make batteries, fence posts, jewellery, plastic

pallets and stainless steel- to name just a few.

So please send those old phones in.

Printer and photocopier Cartridges

Please send us all types of inkjet, toner cartridges and toner bottles. We recycle these

through Planet Ark.

Recycling of plastics from tuckshop

This is the next stage of our recycling project. We are in the process of sourcing bins and

making posters, and we should be ready for this action in a few weeks time. Our Year 7

Environment Committee are responsible for educating the children about the recycling of

their plastic containers.

Nude Food Day

We had a practice run for Nude Food Day yesterday. It was

great to see so many children participating. Thank you to

those parents who made the extra effort in sending “nude”

lunch. We will be holding Nude Food Day again on

Tuesday. Please ensure that lunches are free of paper,

plastic, foam and foil. Thank you.

Girls in League – Rugby League is no longer ‘just for boys’

Beaudesert & District Junior Rigby League are very excited

about the prospect of fielding an all-girls team in the 2012

season. We are seeking girls aged 14 – 17 years who love their

Gold Coast Junior Rugby League will be hosting ‘Come and Try Days’ for girls interested in

playing on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March. The girl’s competition is expected to have

six teams from the Gold Coast region and is scheduled for kick off in May.
