NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Planning Commission Public Hearing Wednesday, May 2, 2012 5pm Council Chambers, 1st Floor 747 Market Street, Tacoma, WA The Planning Commission is considering revisions to the City’s zoning regulations rela- tive to landscaping requirements. The Commission is holding a public hearing to obtain community feedback on these proposed code changes. What is being considered? A proposed new landscaping code would replace the current code (TMC 13.06.502) along with changes to related code sections. Key changes would include incorporating canopy coverage into the code and addressing tree quality, sustainability, and maintenance. In addition, a newly developed Urban Forest Manual (UFM) would provide technical guidance. The changes are intended to align the code with the Urban Forest Policy Element of the Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2010. The Element sets goals to improve the health and function of the urban forest and grow citywide tree canopy coverage from 19% to 30% by the year 2030 (“30 by 30”), in balance with urban design, safety, flexibility for implementation, and other goals.
