July 15, 2014 Dear Redwood Families: On behalf of the Redwood Parent Teacher Student Association, I would like to welcome all new and returning families to Redwood High School for the 2014-15 school year. I and the members of this year’s PTSA Executive Board look forward to meeting you at our “Back to School Coffee” on the first day of school on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 8am in the CEA. The Redwood PTSA supports students, teachers and parents by providing student assemblies and events, staff appreciation events and monthly parent education events. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and our source of support is from membership dues and advertising sales in the Redwood High School Directory. Our very existence and ongoing success is possible because of the stalwart membership support and huge parent volunteer base at Redwood High School. Enclosed please find the 2014-15 PTSA Summer Mailer. This is valuable information so please read through it carefully before recycling any of the pages. You will notice we printed on both sides of each sheet to minimize paper and mailing costs. In addition, should you prefer to source this information online, all of it is available on our website at redwood.org/ptsa or on the redwood.org homepage under the Quicklinks/PTSA section. Our goal for next year, the 2015-16 school year, is to move this whole Summer Mailer online to save time, money and resources. Importantly, each of our PTSA activities is going online! All volunteer events can be found at SignUpGenius.com and you can get the mobile app here - SignUpGenius Mobile. When you go on to the site or the app, click on “Find a Sign Up” and then enter our special PTSA e-mail address [email protected] where it says “Search by Creator’s E-Mail,” and then find our volunteer sign-up lists. We’d like to let you in on a Redwood tradition…
Dear Redwood Families,
The Redwood Staff Appreciation Drawing, a program of the PTSA, honors our teachers and staff members throughout the year with a bimonthly drawing of gifts, tickets, and services donated by Redwood families. Teachers’ and staff names are drawn during staff meetings. Needless-‐to-‐say, our staff drawing is definitely a highlight at these meetings -‐-‐ thanks to your generosity. Popular gifts include gift cards from restaurants, stores, and spas, clever gift baskets, dermatology products, as well as tickets to sporting events, plays, concerts, and lectures. At the staff meeting, we announce donor family names, their student(s), and the lucky staff recipient.
We welcome your participation throughout the school year. Please go online to SignUpGenius.com and enter in our special PTSA email under the Find a Sign Up tab: [email protected] or mail the form below and we will gladly get in touch with you.
Gifts should be dropped off in Room 114 in care of Jean Leutwyler; she may be reached at 415-‐945-‐3620 or [email protected]. Please inform Jean if the gift is “time-‐sensitive” such as: sporting events, theater or speaker tickets. She will be sure to raffle those items off immediately during the school day.
Thank you for supporting this program!

Letter from the Principal “Be The Influence” Campaign at Redwood High School
Dear Parents,
Last year at Redwood we continued our efforts to promote the health and safety of students with our “Be The Influence” campaign. This campaign encourages all Redwood parents to commit their best
efforts to prevent underage drinking and other drug use in their homes by routinely taking simple measures, outlined in the “BTI” Pledge (on the reverse side of this letter.) To date approximately 1,000 families have signed the Pledge. These efforts at Redwood were highlighted in the May 2013 Marin
Magazine article entitled, “Under the Influence”. If you haven’t already read this candid, insightful article about the unacceptably high rates of underage drinking and drug use here in Marin, it may be
viewed at http://digital.marinmagazine.com/marinmagazine/201305#pg53.
Each Redwood parent who signs this Pledge is added to our “BTI” Parent List, posted on a special password protected page on the Redwood website. The list contains contact information of participating Redwood parents; only those who sign the Pledge have access to this valuable resource.
When your teen tells you they are going to a new friend’s house, this list will tell you if that family has signed the Pledge. It will also facilitate contact with the friend’s parents and encourage communication and connection within our community.
As we get ready for the 2014-‐2015 school year, please consider joining the growing list of “BTI” families
at Redwood. If you signed the Pledge last year, there is no need to do so again, but we encourage you to review and update your contact information and add any new students to Redwood, such as freshmen. I look forward to continuing, with you, to “Be the Influence” in our students’ lives.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] Thank you and enjoy the rest of your
summer.
David Sondheim Principal, Redwood High School
How to Join the “Be The Influence” Campaign
If you would like to join other Redwood BTI parents in keeping our students healthy and safe, please review the Pledge on the reverse side and send an email to [email protected] with the information listed below. You will then receive instructions and a password to access the BTI List through the
Redwood website.
Subject: Please Add Me To The BTI List Parent(s) names (if parents living separately, please provide both names) Contact: home, cell number(s), and email addresses for both parents and main contact
Redwood HS student name(s) and 2014-‐15 grade level(s).
