Parents are an important part of every school.

Research shows that students whose parents are

involved in their education have better grades

and fewer discipline problems. Involvement at the

school also makes it easier to establish

friendships with teachers and other parents.

LET’S STAY CONNECTED!

Throughout the year, there are many ways

parents and families can get involved; from

helping out in your child’s classroom to

volunteering to staff an event or serve as an

event chairperson or association board member.

At Mark Keppel we have 2 organizations through

which parents can provide support for our school

and ALL Keppel Students:

The Parent teacher Association (PTA) and Make Keppel Special (MKS Foundation.

The Mark Keppel Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a professional, nonprofit, volunteer organization. Our mission is to support and speak on behalf of children and youth; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in public schools. We seek to secure the highest quality education for all children and youth.

Make Keppel Special (MKS) is a nonprofit, volunteer community group formed by parents and community members to spearhead major fundraising efforts for our school. We raise much needed funds to provide wonderful resources the whole school can enjoy.

MKS has provided funding for playground equipment, computers, visual and performing arts classes, intervention teachers, extra training for teachers and even shade trees for the campus.

The Keppel PTA and MKS Foundation are working together to raise money and make a difference for our students,

teachers and staff. The events and other support provided by these organizations are completely

run by volunteers!.people like YOU!

In 2010, Mark Keppel Elementary School was awarded a federal grant to transform our school into a

Visual and Performing Arts Magnet. Along with a rigorous academic program, Keppel offers dance,

theatre, music, chorus and visual art experiences to ALL students both as independent subjects and

woven into core content. Integration of the arts provides students with opportunities to excel and thrive as

creative, flexible thinkers. However, the grant has expired and while we seek other funding sources and

grants, it is up to us to work together to raise the funds to provide our students with a stellar education

and enriching activities. Even just giving an hour can be a big help. We have

positions and tasks to fit all schedules and interests.
