The Terrestrial Gateway product family from ProTelevision Technologies includes a range of products (Network Elements) that each include one or more interfaces for transmission of DVB-T/H :

PT2080 Modulator: provides an interface /gateway for transmission in DVB-T/H format based on input of MPEG-2 TS in ASI format or (optionally) MPEG2 TS over IP formatPT2088 Re-modulator: provides an interface/gateway for transmission in DVB-T/H format based on input of a DVB-T/H signal delivered off-air from another DVB-T/H transmitter (the device is regenerative meaning that the input signal is completely demodulated to MPEG-2 TS format before being remodulated onto a ‘fresh’ DVB-T/H spectrum)PT2090 Digital Repeater: provides an interface/gateway for transmission in DVB-T/H format based on input of a DVB-T/H signal delivered off- air from another DVB-T/H transmitter (the low internal latency through the device makes it ideal for Gap filler applications) PT2077 Transceiver: provides an interface/gateway for transmission in DVB-T/H format based on input of a DVB-T/H signal delivered via satellite in DVB-S/S2 formatPT2000 Terrestrial Gateway: combines all the above listed units into a single device thus providing a universal interface/gateway for DVB-T/H transmission.

ProTelevision Technologies A/S is proud to present to the market the PT2080 DVB-T/H Modulator for transmission in DVB-T/H format of a MPEG-2 TS feed by an ASI-input.

PT2080 is the successor of the well-known Modulator PT5780 and the concept of the PT5780 has been refined to a even higher level. We are confident that you will agree with us that the new Modulator PT2080 offers the same excellent reliability, high performance and ease of operation as the PT5780 and in addition also a lot more.

Being a DVB-T/H Modulator, the core function of the PT2080 is to receive a MPEG-2 TS signal by a Asynchronous Serial Interface, ASI, for transmission on a DVB-T/H compliant COFDM spectrum in accordance with the rules for channel coding and modulation specified in the DVB-T/H standards ETSI EN 300 744/302 304. The output of PT2080 is delivered on a user selectable frequency in the range from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz with selectable spectrum bandwidths of 8, 7, 6, and 5 MHz included as standard. The unit supports furthermore non-hierarchical and hierarchical modulation format and it may be user configured for MFN and SFN network operation as required.

The PT2080 is capable of handling DVB-T as well as DVB-H in 8, 7, 6 and 5 MHz with standard configuration no options required. The standard version of the PT2080 also offers full hierarchical support (also in SFN), superior MER-performance, seamless switching between inputs and integrated web browser and SNMP remote control capability.

The PT2080 is available with an active or blank front panel.

PT2080/00: Standard modulator function with blank front panel. All operations (configuration and monitoring) are carried out through remote interface (Webservice/HTTP, SNMP Client Get/Set/Trap and RS232/SCPI). This version optimizes the cost further without sacrificing performance by being devoid of costs related to front panel bill of materials.

PT2080/10: Standard modulator function with sophisticated front panel control. All general operation (configuration and monitoring) is implemented in the sophisticated front panel interface. The extensive use of dedicated function buttons as well as easily recognized soft key functions provides a truly user-friendly experience. Full operation is also supported via remote interface (Webservice/HTTP, SNMP Client Get/Set/Trap and RS232/SCPI).

The typical application for the PT2080 DVB-T/H Modulator is to work in combination with any third party RF power amplifier and provide a high quality RF-signal in a DVB-T/H network. The PT2080 constitutes in itself a state-of-the-art product with market leading RF-performance. The built-in linear and non-linear pre-corrector function (IMD Buster McTwo SoftClip) included as standard with PT2080 facilitates furthermore easy and efficient optimization of the overall transmitter system performance (Modulator plus RF power amplifier and channel/

combiner filter) by allowing manual compensation of the nonlinearities usually encountered with any RF power amplifier and analogue RF filter. Addition of the optional adaptive pre-corrector solution PT2754 will enhance the ease of operation further by providing continuous automatic optimization of the transmitter performance (remodulator plus RF power amplifier). The automatic optimization includes the RF power amplifier non-liniearities (phase and gain response vs. power) as well as non linearities in the channel/combiner filter following the power amplifier (amplitude and group delay vs. frequency).

The MPEG-2 TS can be accessed in the rear panel of the PT2080 in ASI format for monitoring purposes.

Input of transport stream in IP format is furthermore available as an option (PT2720) and input of a transport stream in DVB-S/S2 satellite signal is available as an additional option (PT2730).

The extremely high performance DVB-T/H spectrum produced by the modulator combined with the high accuracy and great flexibility of the modulator unit in terms of compensation, for linear and non-linear artifacts in connected amplifier and filter and combiners, by using the pre-correction functionality makes a solid basis for achieving the given requirement of the on air RF-signal with minimal degradation of the RF-signal - in other words, maximal possible coverage is obtained.

The remote interface included as standard with PT2080 Modulator (web service and SNMP client) facilitates easy remote control and monitoring both via Web browser and as an integrated solution in a larger management system based on the SNMP clients get, set and trap functions. SW/FW update is furthermore easily carried out from a remote location through the web interface (HTTP and FTP format supported).

In addition to a state-of-the-art implementation of the mandatory channel coding and modulation technology for DVB-T/H modulators the modulator also includes:

In the new PT2080, all the experience from the ancestor PT5780, has been taken into account and developed further to the very edge of performance. The PT2080 is based on using the new PT2000 platform of ProTelevision, thus taking advantage of a large FPGA, a powerful DSP and a powerful Power PC micro controller running an Open Source Linux operating system.

The PT2080 Modulator assures that the customer gets a reliable partner in the DVB-T/H network for many years of operation.

Spectrum efficiency and purity of the signal are the inspiration for ProTelevision and is reflected in our products throughout the years. PT2080 makes no exception of this. Some of the secrets behind the astonishing performance are:

A noise shaped bandwidth limited clipper to control the crest factor

Suppression of sideband artifacts from the modulation with the inherent symbol rate. In addition to this, the importance of the pre-corrector is essential

The unique double pre-corrector scheme where the two shoulders are adjusted individually. In addition, the fact that the operational bandwidth of the pre-corrector is large, extending into the adjacent channels

In combination by using the pre-correction software IMD-Buster, the tools are given to the operator to archive a on-air signal fulfilling the required on air masks with a minimum of additional filtering (in external filter or combiner). Thus, losses in the system can then be taken to a minimal level, ensuring maximal possible coverage and reception quality. In normal setup, the input signals of the PT2080 is fed into the unit by the two available ASI-input connectors. If desired, the two inputs can be used in a redundancy solution where one input is assigned primary input status and the other input is assigned secondary input status with automatic switch over from primary to secondary in case the primary signal is lost.In case the primary distribution returns the user can pre-define in the management system of the PT2080 if the unit should change back the primary input source or remain on the backup source.

The two inputs will serve as input for respectively the HP- and LP transport stream by hierarchical modulation mode.

In addition to the ASI inputs, a Transport Stream over IP input is available as an option, PT 2720.Two inputs for the optional pre-correction, RF Sense 1 for monitoring the signal directly after the amplifier and RF Sense 2 for monitoring the signal directly after filter/combiner.

The PT2080 has a number of features integrated in order to assist when doing linearisation, phase noise measurements and similar tasks. A number of test signals can be generated:

A single carrier mode, with a power corresponding to a normal full spectrum C-OFDM signal, facilitates power measurements using a spectrum analyzer, phase noise measurements and frequency measurements

A PRBS-mod can be selected and a BER over the chain or parts of the transmitter chain can be measured and analyzed (ref. TR101290 paragraph 9.16.1)

In addition to all the functionality implemented in the standard version of the PT2080, ProTelevision have developed some new features which can be added to the PT2080 as options. The available options are at currents stage as follows:

The extremely high precision OCXO option, PT2710, offers the very high accuracy of 0.0001 ppm. The new oven controlled oscillator option will offer such high stability that the unit will remain capable of working in a SFN more then 12 hours after loss of a external supplied GPS-signal.

The high precision GPS-functionality, option PT2711, integrated in the modulator board eliminates the requirement for an external GPS-unit at the site. Thus a considerable cost saving can be made as well as easier management and faster start up can be obtained. The GPS-unit is prepared for active and passive antennas and is able to handle cables with length of more than 100 meters, using RG213/KX4. The GPS-unit has 10 MHz and 1 pps outputs and is extremely suitable for operating as the common site GPS-central unit.

In addition to the ASI-inputs, input in Transport Stream over IP (“GBE”) -format can be handled by the modulator by using the option PT2720.

It is possible to equip the PT2080 with signal fed from satellite. This is obtained by the option PT2730, capable of handling a DVB-S/S2 fed.

The manual pre-correction, now included in the standard PT2080, is complemented with the option PT2754, an adaptive digital pre-corrector with extraordinary outstanding performance. The adaptive digital pre-correction process is extremely fast (typically 10-20 seconds). The state of the art signal processing algorithms in combination with the unique separate handling of the upper and lower side band, ensure that an output spectra with outstanding performance is given.
