Birth and Yagyopavita Ceremony� Shriram Sharma Acharya ji was born on the 20th September 1911 in Anvalkheda

(Dist. Agra, India)

� His father was Pt. Roopkishore Sharma and mother Mata Dankunvari Devi.

� Childhood, Acharyaji was concerned for the welfare of common masses.

� Being born in BRAHMIN family, took a Brave Step of Nursing an old “Untouchable” woman suffering from Leprosy

� For this there was a strong disapproval and displeasure of his family.

Pandit MadanMohan Malviya ji

The Great freedom fighter and founder of Banaras Hindu University,

solemnized Acharya ji’s sacred thread ceremony (Yagyopavita) at the age of 15 and initiated him in the Gayatri Mantra

Encounter with Hiamalyan Yogi

� On Vasant Panchami festival, January 18, 1926, a guru named Swami

Sarveshvaranandji – a great Himalayan yogi – appeared before him in astral body

from the flame of the Dipaka (lamp) during his Gayatri worship.

� This sparked the revelation of the divine origin and purpose of his life and

bestowed upon him with the grace and guidance of his guru.

� This lamp is lit continuously since then and is enshrined at Shantikunj, Haridwar at

Present.

� The next 24 years of Acharya ji’s were devoted to 24 Mahapurashcharanas

� Each consisting of the rhythmic recitation (japa) of 2.4 million Gayatri Mantra

with strictest of disciplines.

� There is no parallel to this kind of sadhana.

Family Life� In 1943, he married Bhagwati Devi.

� Vandaniya Mataji was born on September 1926, in a famous priestly family.

Acharyaji and Mataji

� She studied Bhagwat Gita, and Ram Charit Manas at a very young age.

� After her marriage to Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya (Gurudev), Mataji took over the

responsibility of looking after visitors and guests.

� She willingly donated all her personal jewelry, which she received at her

wedding, to Gurudev’s Yug Nirman Yojna (mission for creation of a new Era), for

establishment of Gayatri Tapobhoomi at Mathura.

� Mataji initiated millions of people into Gayatri Mantra

Acharyaji as a Freedom Fighter� Acharya Sharma was a dedicated freedom fighter.

� He did not accept any award or citation in his life-time.

� In 1992, the Govt. of India had released a postal stamp in his honour

posthumously.

� Made a mark as a fearless satyagrahi

� Participated in non-cooperation movement and the Salt satyagraha.

� During his imprisonment at Asansol prison, in 1933, he came in close contact

with prominent leaders like Madan Mohan Malviya, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai,

Swaroop Rani etc.

� He earned the sobriquent “Shriram Matta“(the intoxicated ) on account of his

dediaction and devotion to the nation.

Acharyaji as a Reformer

� Acharyaji perceived the 21st century as an age of enlightment .

� He enunciated the principle that reformation “ that reformation of the self

will lead to the reformation of the society”

� He launched the Yug Nirman Mission for personal, familial and social

uplifting.,

� Under of the Yug Nirman Yojna he had given maximum importance :

- eradication of blind faith- eradication of blind faith

- removal of superstitions and untoward customs and

- traditions prevailing in the Indian society in the name of religion.

- Emancipation of the glory of marriage institution from the clutches of the social evils of dowry,

- Eradication of child marriages,

- Stopping exploitation of women, etc.

Emphasis on Women Empowerment

� Propagated Women’s Ascent as the foremost necessity for the progressive

development of the society and the nation.

� He encouraged women’s education and equal participation of women in all

walks of life.

� In 1942, supported establishment of Girls’ intermediate college.

� Launched several revolutionary programs for women’s progress from the

religious platform too.

Acharyaji as a Seer-Sage

� After the age of 15, next 24 years were devoted to 24 Mahapurashcharanas with

strictest of disciplines.

� At the same time, he also whole heartedly participated in the freedom struggle of

India, while continuing with his altruistic activities for the good of the society and

attending to the familial duties.

� Acharya Shriram Sharma was a great devotee of Goddess Gayatri.

� Successfully practiced and mastered the highest kinds of sadhanas .� Successfully practiced and mastered the highest kinds of sadhanas .

� Deciphered the hidden science of Tantras.

� He claims to have attained the supreme knowledge of the philosophy and science of

the Gayatri Mantra and Yoga.

� He pioneered experiments on simple sadhanas, which could be easily pursued by the

common masses

� He visited Himalayas four times for higher spiritual attainments

Acharyaji as a Writer� Basic cause of problems in today’s society is Malicious Thinking

� For this reason he chose writing as the principal mode towards Uprooting the Evil

tendecies and blind faith from people’s minds

� Initiated “Vichaar Kranti Abhiyan” (Thought Revolution Movement)

-Alternative constructive thought

-Divine thoughts can help in the development of a harmonious society

� For this wrote and published the first issue of “AKHAND JYOTI” in 1940

� Akhand Jyoti a symbol of light of the ethics and scientific spiritualality for spiritual

enlightenment

Acharyaji as “Spiritual Master”a “Guru”

� He initiated nearly 24 lac people into Gayatri Sadhana without any

discrimination of any kind.

� Miraculous effects of his blessings experienced by people from all parts of the

society stand as testimonies to the Supramental achievements (siddhis) of

Gayatri.

� Pioneer of the revival of the Rishi Culture. Acharyaji propogated Gayatri and

Yagya (2 pillars of Indian Culture)

Founder of A Global Movement

� On the completion of the 24 Mahapurashcarañas, Acharya ji established

Gayatri Tapobhumi at Mathura, India in 1953.

� Organized a grand Gayatri Yagya in 1958, to launch Yug Nirman Yojna

� Through various activities at Mathura, including yagnas on large scale,

Acharyaji gathered a team of dedicated men and women htat formed “Gayatri

Pariwar”.

� In 1971, Gurudev instituted the Mission’s Headquarters at Shantikunj

(Haridwar, India) as as spiritual centre for implementing the teachings of

Great Rishis (Saints) into practice.

�Situated in the shadow of the Himalayas and at the lap of Holy Ganga

�This Ashram, imbued with spiritual power generated by Acharyaji and Mataji.

� Dissemination of knowledge of the Art of Living (Sanjeevani Vidya)

�A magnificent temple of Gayatri-Mata and idols of Sapt-Rishis (Ancient seven eminent

saints) are located here.
