Duties and Responsibilities

Performs the following duties within the framework of the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics using psychological expertise:

1. Assessment services

1.1. Provides psychological assessment under supervisory direction for children, adults and families.

1.2. Administers psychometric assessment tools and provides analysis and data interpretation from these assessments.

2. Counselling interventions

2.1. Analyses client needs and provides counselling to clients, using effective culturally appropriate counselling methods.

2.2. Provides diagnostic and support counselling for clients experiencing difficulties and to engage clients in problem solving.

3. Psychological interventions

3.1. Uses psychological principles to contribute to the development of intervention plans for children, adults and families.

3.2. Assists with the development and implementation of behaviour and anger management programs for children, adults and families.

4. Training and resource development

4.1. Under direction develops, prepares and presents training for departmental staff, other Government and non-Government agencies and community groups in relation to psychological interventions.

4.2. Advises other staff on behavioural interventions and assists in the development of skills in areas of psychological intervention.

4.3. Under direction develops resources and programs for the use of other staff in the Department in areas of expertise.

5. Other

5.1. Participates in Emergency Management and Response duties as required.

5.2. Other duties as required.

Essential Work-Related Requirements (Selection Criteria)

1. A 4-year Degree in Psychology and eligibility for full registration with the Psychologists Board of Australia.

2. Possession of a range of psychological knowledge and counselling skills relevant to a child protection context.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of the use and interpretation of psychometric assessment tools.

4. Report Writing Skills

5. Demonstrated interpersonal skills including negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills and the ability to assist in the development in others.

Essential Eligibility Requirements / Special Requirements

1. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Clearance.

2. Current 'C or A' class driver's licence

3. Working with Children Check

4. Be willing to Travel intrastate as required
