GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant flow Air Samplers. They are normally used to pull air samples through various filters to collect dust particulate, asbestos fiber particles or biological particles for analysis. Each unit is calibrated with a user specified filter material. See the Calibration Certificate at the back of this manual for calibration details. This PSU-3 Series of Mobile Air Sampling Systems have been custom designed to enclose and provide “chain of custody” for the pump, flow controller, flow meter, filter holder and all electronics inside two individual lockable, weather resistant enclosures. The system is designed around HI-Q's standard MRV-1023CV, 3/4 HP mobile Cart air sampler which is depicted at www.HI-Q.net under “continuous duty air samplers.” The PSU-3 is equipped with the MRV-PSU-057 locking filter box inlet that is designed to enclose the PSU-2-ILFH filter holder. The PSU-2-RAINHAT attaches to the inlet of the PSU-2-ILFH with a ½” quick disconnect fitting and makes the inlet weather resistant. The PSU-3A-H is equipped with the PSU-RHLB weather resistant lockable inlet. The PSU-RHLB includes one PSU-FH filter holder. The PSU-RHLB/PSU-FH combination has been independently tested to be 30% more efficient for sampling airborne particulate than the older PSU-2-ILFH/PSU-2-RAINHAT combination due to smoother inlet and the elimination of the ½” quick disconnect fittings. Both PSU inlets are adjustable between 48 and 72 inches above the ground, which is the breathing level of most workplace operations. The industry standard intake height is 59” from the ground to the intake bug screen.

OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 series utilizes a 3/4 Hp (1023 series) motor mounted, rotary carbon vane vacuum pump. The carbon-graphite vanes are self lubricating. The pump runs at a constant speed and can develop up to 26” Hg when used as a vacuum pump. The unregulated (open to flow) pump capacity is 255 LPM. The pump has dual voltage capabilities of 115 and 230 VAC. This unit is wired for 115 VAC. The pump is equipped with a thermotector and will automatically shut down should the motor overheat. Regulation of the air flow is achieved through HI-Q's, Mechanical Heavy Duty Automatic Control Valve, model number MCV-260. This valve utilizes the opposing spring/diaphragm principle. Once the flow is set by increasing or decreasing the master spring tension (wing nut), the flow will remain constant up to the pump capacity. The normal flow calibration range is 30 to 110 LPM with the upper end dependent on barometric pressure and filter media. It is possible to calibrate up to 210 LPM depending on the filter media.

The PSU-3 series features an integral venturi flow meter that has been calibrated at the factory with a NIST traceable secondary master flow element. The PSU-3 has a digital elapsed timer that is wired to run when the pump is running. If the pump stops for any reason, the timer will also stop.

POWER REQUIREMENTS This unit is wired for operation on a 115 VAC GROUNDED circuit. It is highly recommended that a ground fault circuit be used to prevent electrical shock hazards. If a ground fault circuit is not available, a weather resistant shock prevention unit: GFCI-2 can be supplied by HI-Q. The pump is protected by a 15 AMP Buss slo-blo fuse installed in the control cabinet. Replacement fuses should be of the type: 15 A, T, 250V. Page 7: PSU-3 and 3-H - HI-Q Operation Manuals/PSU-3 and 3-H with... · 2 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant

6

3. Remove the knurled aluminum nut (Goosenut) and the tapered black polyurethane Poly-Pack seal from the top of the inlet tube and slide on to the bottom of the 5/8” diameter tube on the bottom of the inlet as shown below. Make sure that the o-ring imbedded in the top of the Poly-Pack seal is on top.

4. Slide the 5/8” diameter stainless tube down inside the inlet tube and tighten the

Goosenut. 5. Set the sample air intake level by loosening the knurled aluminum nut from the

threaded black nylon gooseneck screw (Goosescrew) and raising or lowering the inlet so that the intake bug screen is at desired height above the ground. Before securing the sampling set height, make sure that the tapered black polyurethane Poly-Pack seal is seated snugly in the lower black nylon threaded screw (Goosescrew).

COLLECTION OF SAMPLE AFTER DESIGNATED RUN TIME The laboratory will establish the specific filter replacement procedure, run time and other details for this sampling sequence. Standard procedures basically call for the cabinet to be opened and:

1. Record the flow rate at the end of the sampling time. 2. Turn off the pump.

3. Record the elapsed time in hours and tenths. 4. PSU-3: Open the filter holder box and remove the PSU-2-ILFH filter holder. Place the

un-opened filter assembly into an airtight plastic bag/container.

PSU-3A-H: Open the PSU-RHLB inlet. Place the PSU-FH-CAP protective cap on the inlet of the PSU-FH filter holder and remove the PSU-FH filter holder. Place the un-opened filter holder assembly into an airtight plastic bag/container.

5. Mark the container with the location data, elapsed time, date, starting flow rate and end

of sampling time flow rate. (This data will give you the average flow rate.)

6. Send the sealed sample to the laboratory for analysis.

Page 16: PSU-3 and 3-H - HI-Q Operation Manuals/PSU-3 and 3-H with... · 2 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant

15

7. Replace the filter with a pre-loaded filter holder and re-install the rain hat inlet.

8. Reset the timer to zero.

9. Restart the pump.

10. Adjust the flow rate, close cover and secure.

FLOW METER AND FLOW RATE ADJUSTMENT:

The instantaneous air flow rate can be read directly from the rotometer on the control cabinet located inside of the enclosure lid. The rotometer is used with a venturi tube to establish the air flow rate. The principle is that air flowing through an orifice will create a pressure differential. A rotometer is placed between the high and low pressure developed by the venturi so that air will flow through the rotometer. The rotometer ball will rise in the “V” tube in proportion to the flow rate. The venturi/ flow meter is calibrated at the factory with an NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) traceable secondary flow element. NOTE: The flow meter will only read correctly when the lid is in the fully open position, and the flow meter is in a vertical position. When the cabinet lid is closed, the flow meter will be horizontal and the flow ball will go to the top of the meter. On rare occasions the ball might stick at the top restrainer pin. A light tap on the rotometer should loosen it. You can also pinch the plastic tubing leading to the center of the black venturi tube.

Page 17: PSU-3 and 3-H - HI-Q Operation Manuals/PSU-3 and 3-H with... · 2 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant

16

OPERATION OF THE FLOW CONTROL VALVE The intake air flow rate is increased or decreased by turning the flow control knob on the top of the spring on the flow controller. Turn the wing-nut clockwise to decrease the flow rate, and counter clockwise to increase the flow rate. The flow rate should be adjusted with the filter holder and filter element (paper) in place. The flow rate will need to be readjusted every time the pump is turned off and on due to slight hysteresis in the spring and diaphragm of the flow control valve.

17

CALIBRATION OF THE FLOW METER This unit is calibrated at the factory, and is ready to use. It is however recommended that a field test calibration unit be used periodically to confirm the accuracy of the rotometer reading. If the operating entity has multiple units in the field, more than one flow calibration unit may be advisable. These calibration units must be re-certified by the factory every year to conform to the air sampling protocol. HI-Q’s standard Re-certification takes approximately 2 weeks (this includes expedited shipping to and from our factory).

CALIBRATION The PSU-3 series is calibrated at the factory. The following procedure is for verifying the flow rate or re-calibration. Equipment Required:

Calibration Adapter: The PSU-3A-H equipped with the PSU-RHLB inlet will require a calibration adapter (PN: PSU-FH-CALADAPT) in order to connect the air flow calibrator to the inlet of the filter holder.

Air Flow Calibrator: Suggested flow calibration units with custom ½” stainless steel quick disconnect fittings (can be viewed and purchased on-line at www.HI-Q.net):

Model AFC-110L-5QD: Analog Air Flow Calibrator (no power requirements, operates by pressure differential created by moving air). 18

HI-Q air flow calibrators are venturi flow meters. Venturi flow meters produce a low pressure drop (ΔP). Note that some other air flow calibrators produce a larger ΔP and their use for calibration could result in poor calibration accuracy. Re-Calibration Procedure The PSU-3 series uses a rotometer to sense the ΔP across the flow venturi. The rotometer and venturi are calibrated as a pair. When the rotometer/venturi pair is calibrated at the factory, a custom scale is put on the rotometer with multiple calibration points. It is only possible to perform a single point calibration in the field. Typically the highest flow reading is calibrated and then the lower flow readings are checked against the calibrator. The following steps are for field calibration:

1. PSU-3: Remove the PSU-2-RAINHAT Inlet. PSU-3A-H: Remove the upper portion of the PSU-RHLB Inlet

2. It is essential that one recalibrate the PSU series samplers with the same filter media as

that which will be used for sampling in the field. Varying the maximum pressure drop (caused by the filter paper) at calibration will affect the overall accuracy of the calibration.

PSU-3: Put new filter media into the PSU-2-ILFH filter holder and connect the female ½” quick disconnect filter holder outlet to the ½” male quick disconnect in the filter holder box. PSU-3A-H: Put new filter media into the PSU-FH filter holder and place the filter holder on the filter holder receptacle on the base of the PSU-RHLB. Place the PSU-FH-CALADAPT on the inlet of the PSU-FH and push down to seat the o-ring.

Page 20: PSU-3 and 3-H - HI-Q Operation Manuals/PSU-3 and 3-H with... · 2 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant

19

Rotate the locking wings of the PSU-FH-CALADAPT clockwise (when viewed from above) until the slots on the wings engage the 3/8” dowel pins on the PSU-RHLB receptacle.

Page 21: PSU-3 and 3-H - HI-Q Operation Manuals/PSU-3 and 3-H with... · 2 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PSU-3 and PSU-3A-H Mobile Pump with Control Valve Systems are designed for use as constant

20

3. Connect ½ inch female quick disconnect on flexible hose provided with the airflow calibrator to the ½ inch male quick disconnect on the inlet of the PSU-2-ILFH or PSU-FH-CALADAPT.

4. Turn on the pump and adjust the sample flow to the anticipated sample flow rate.

5. Compare the readings on the rotometer and the airflow calibrator.

6. If the readings are different, remove the pressed in button cover above the rotometer on the control panel. Use a small standard blade screwdriver to adjust the needle valve on the back of the rotometer until the readings agree.

7. Adjust the sample flow to other readings on the rotometer to confirm the calibration.

MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLE SHOOTING:

PUMP: The PSU-3 series samplers are designed to be continuous duty operational systems and are equipped with oilless rotary vane vacuum pumps. The carbon/graphite vanes can be expected to function continuously for more than one year. It is important that the vanes be replaced before they completely wear out. If they wear down too far, the remnants will slip out of the slot holding them and shatter inside the eccentric cavity. This will cause chips to wedge against the motor shaft, and may bend the shaft. The motor will then have to be completely replaced. It is more economically practical to replace the vanes every 10 to 12 months of operation with the K479 service repair kit. The “K479” Service Kit Includes: 2-Felt Filters, 4 Carbon Vanes, 1 Motor Gasket, 2-“O”Rings, & 5 Bolt Gaskets. You will also notice that the flow rate capacity will decrease if the vanes are worn or the pump cavity is scored. Replacement and cleaning is accomplished by following the procedure recommended by the pump manufacturer. The motor bearings are permanently lubricated and require no maintenance. If a vane should break in operation, the pump motor will overload and stop. If turning the switch off, then on does not restart the motor, the pump head will have to be disassembled and the vanes replaced. If the pump restarts, the cut off was due to overheating. In that case, the electronic re-settable elapsed timer would have stopped at the same time as the motor, even with the main switch on and power to the motor. This saves the sample so that it can be analyzed with an accurate elapsed time. The pump may be removed from the box by removing the four ¼-20 hex nuts from the aluminum mounting plate using a 9/16” socket or wrench. Pull the pump out of the box and rest it on the lip of the box while disconnecting electrical connection on the pump. When re-installing pump, check the wiring diagram on the pump to ensure that the plugs are correctly connected.

ELAPSED TIME METER: The timer is powered by an internal non-replaceable battery with an approximate life span of 5 years. Completion of an electrical circuit starts and stops the timer. The timer in this unit is read in hours and tenths of hours. (One tenth hour is six minutes.) CLEANING: The PSU series air sampler is an electrically powered instrument and care should be taken to not let any liquids get inside the sampler. The exterior of the sampler may be cleaned with a damp cloth.

IFULL OPEN L

Dwyer Series RM Rate-Master®

Flowmeters are furnished in threemodels (see Fig. 2), each available in a broad array of flow ranges withdirect reading scales for air, gas or water. Installation, operation and main-tenance are very simple. Only a few common-sense precautions must beobserved to assure long, trouble-free service.

CAUTION: Dwyer Rate-Master® Flowmeters are designed to provide sat-isfactory long-term service when used with air, water or other compatiblemedia. Refer to factory for information on questionable gases or liquids.Avoid solutions of acids, bases or salts having a pH below 5.0 or above8.5. Caustic solutions, antifreeze (ethylene glycol) and aromatic solventsshould definitely not be used.

CalibrationEach Rate-Master® Flowmeter is calibrated at the factory. If at any timeduring the meter’s life, you wish to re-check its calibration, do so only withdevices of certified accuracy. DO NOT attempt to check a Rate-Master®

Flowmeter with a similar flowmeter, as seemingly unimportant variations inpiping and back pressure may cause noticeable differences in the indicat-ed reading. If in doubt, return your Dwyer Rate-Master® Flowmeter to thefactory. Its calibration will be checked for you at no charge. Before pro-ceeding with installation, check to be sure you have the Rate-Mastermodel and flow range you require.

LOCATION: Temperature, Pressure, Atmosphere and Vibration:Dwyer Rate-Master® Flowmeters are exceptionally tough and strong. Theyare designed for use at pressures up to 100 psi (6.89 bar) and tempera-tures up to 130°F (54°C).

DO NOT EXCEED THESE LIMITS! The installation should not be exposedto strong chlorine atmospheres or solvents such as benzene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, etc. The mounting panel should be free of excessivevibration, as it may prevent the unit from operating properly.

Inlet Piping Run: It is good practice to approach the flowmeter inlet withas few elbows and restrictions as possible. In every case, the inlet pipingshould be at least as large as the connection to the flowmeter; i.e.,1/8″Iron Pipe Size for RMA models 1/4″ IPS for RMB models,1/2″ IPS for RMCmodels. Length of inlet piping makes little difference for normal pressure-fed flowmeters.

For flowmeters on vacuum air service, the inlet piping should be as shortand open as possible. This will allow operation near atmospheric pressureand thereby insure the accuracy of the device. (Note: for vacuum air ser-vice, the flow control valve, if any, should be on the discharge side of theflowmeter. Either the TMV unit or a separate in-line valve may be applied.).

Discharge Piping: As on the inlet, discharge piping should be at least aslarge as the flowmeter connection. Also, for pressure-fed flowmeters onair or gas service, the discharge piping should be as short and open aspossible. This will allow operation of the flow tube at near atmosphericpressure and insure the accuracy of the device. This is of less importanceon water or liquid flowmeters, as the flowing medium is generally incom-pressible and moderate back pressure will not affect the accuracy of theinstrument as calibrated.

POSITIONING AND MOUNTINGAll Rate-Master® Flowmeters must be mounted in a vertical position withinlet connection at the bottom rear and outlet at the top rear.

Bezel or Through-Panel Mounting: Make panel cutout using appropri-ate dimensions from Fig. 2. Flowmeter must fit into panel freely withoutforcing or squeezing. Insert the flowmeter from the front of the panel andinstall the mounting clamps from the rear. Insert and tighten the clampbolts in the locations shown in Fig. 3. Do not exceed 5 in./lbs. Make con-nections to inlet and outlet ports using small amount of RTV sealant orTeflon® thread tape to avoid leakage. Avoid excess torque, which maydamage the flowmeter body.

Surface Mounting: Drill appropriate holes in panel, using the dimensionsshown in Fig. 2. Hold the flowmeter in position in front of the panel andinstall the clamp bolts from the rear. (The mounting clamps may be usedas washers, if desired, by installing them backwards or straightening themout.) Pipe up inlet and discharge following the directions in the previoussections.

Surface Mounting on Piping Only: An alternate method of surfacemounting, omitting the clamp bolts and supporting the flowmeter solely onthe connecting piping, is possible. For this method, extra-long or straightpipe threads should be used so that nuts may be run onto the pipe andlater tightened against the back of the panel to retain the unit in properposition. Use appropriate hole layout in formation from Fig. 2, but omit thesmall holes.

Surface Mounting on Piping Only Without Panel: For a temporary orlaboratory type installation, the panel may be omitted altogether and theflowmeter installed directly in rigid piping. Its light weight permits this with-out difficulty.

OPERATIONTo start system, open valve slowly to avoid possible damage. Controlvalves on BV and SSV models are turned clockwise to reduce flow,counter-clockwise to increase flow. A nylon insert is provided in the thread-ed section of the valve stem to give a firm touch to valve and to preventchange of setting due to vibration.

The performance of low range units used in air or gas applications may beaffected by static electricity. Excessive static charge may cause the ballfloat to behave erratically or provide a false reading. To ensure the properfunction of the unit, the application should be designed to minimize or dis-pel static electricity.

The standard technique for reading a Variable Area Flowmeter is to locatethe highest point of greatest diameter on the float, and then align that withthe theoretical center of the scale graduation. In the event that the float isnot aligned with a grad, an extrapolation of the float location must be madeby the operator as to its location between the two closest grads. The fol-lowing are some sample floats shown with reference to the proper locationto read the float.

Variable Area Flowmeters used for gases are typically labeled with the pre-fix “S” or “N”, which represents “Standard” for English units or “Normal” formetric units. Use of this prefix designates that the flowmeter is calibratedto operate at a specific set of conditions, and deviation from those stan-dard conditions will require correction for the calibration to be valid. In prac-tice, the reading taken from the flowmeter scale must be corrected back tostandard conditions to be used with the scale units. The correct location tomeasure the actual pressure and temperature is at the exit of the flowme-ter, except when using the Top Mounted Valve under vacuum applications, where they should be measured at the flowmeter inlet. The equation to cor-rect for nonstandard operating conditions is as follows:

Q2 = Q1 x P1 x T2

P2 x T1

Where: Q1 = Actual or Observed Flowmeter ReadingQ2 = Standard Flow Corrected for Pressure and Temperature

P1 = Actual Pressure (14.7 psia + Gage Pressure)P2 = Standard Pressure (14.7 psia, which is 0 psig)T1 = Actual Temperature (460 R + Temp °F)T2 = Standard Temperature (530 R, which is 70°F)

Example: A flowmeter with a scale of 10-100 SCFH Air. The float is sittingat the 60 grad on the flowmeter scale. Actual Pressure is measured at theexit of the meter as 5 psig. Actual Temperature is measured at the exit ofthe meter as 85°F.

Q2 = 60.0 x (14.7 + 5) x 53014.7 x (460 + 85)

Q2 = 68.5 SCFH Air

CAUTION: Do not completely unscrew valve stem unless the flowmeter isunpressurized and drained of any liquid. Removal while in service will allowgas or liquid to flow out the front of the valve body and could result in seri-ous personal injury. For applications involving high pressure and/or toxicgases or fluids, special non-removable valves are available on specialorder. Please contact factory for details.

MAINTENANCEThe only maintenance normally required is occasional cleaning to assurereliable operation and good float visibility.

Disassembly: The flowmeter can be disassembled for cleaning simply as follows:

1. Remove valve knob from RMB or RMC -BV or -SSV units by pulling theknob forward. It is retained by spring pressure on the stem half-shaft sothat a gentle pull will remove it. On RMA-BV or -SSV models, turn the valveknob counter-clockwise until the threads are disengaged. Then withdrawthe stem from the valve by gently pulling on the knob.

2. Remove the four mounting bracket screws located in the sides of theflowmeter. See Fig. 3. Pull the flowmeter body gently forward away fromthe back plate to avoid undue strain on the body. Leave the piping con-nections intact. There is no need to disturb them. See Fig. 4.

3. Threaded body style flowmeters - Remove the slip cap with a push ona screwdriver as shown in Fig. 5. Remove the plug ball stop as shown inFig. 6 using allen wrench sizes as follows: Model RMA - 1/4″, Model RMB- 1/2″ and Model RMC - 3/4″ Threadless body style flowmeters - Releasethe plastic retaining clip with a screw driver (Figure 5B), it will unclip fromthe valve body (TMV Option) or the plug ball stop, slide the clip back untilthe valve body or ball stop can be removed. The clip will remain in the bodyfor convenience. Using a screwdriver gently lift up on the plug in the grooveas shown in Figure 6B until the o-ring seal is released and remove the plug. For the TMV option gently pull up on the valve knob to release the valvebody seals and remove the valve.

4. Take out the ball or float by inverting the body and allowing the floatto fall into your hand, as shown in Fig. 7. (Note: It is best to cover the dis-charge port to avoid losing the float through that opening.)

Cleaning: The flow tube and flowmeter body can best be cleaned with alittle pure soap and water. Use of a bottle brush or other soft brush will aidthe cleaning. Avoid benzene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, alkaline deter-gents, caustic soda, liquid soaps (which may contain chlorinated solvents),etc. Also, avoid prolonged immersion, which may harm or loosen thescale.

Reassembly: Simply reverse steps 1 through 4 and place the flowmeterback in service. A little stopcock grease or petroleum jelly on the “O” ringswill help maintain a good seal as well as facilitate assembly. No other spe-cial care is required.

ORDERING INFORMATION

EMC INSTALLATION GUIDELINESAlthough this unit is designed with a high degree of immunity to

ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI), proper installation and wiring methodsmust be followed to ensure compatibility in each application. The type of theelectrical noise, source or coupling method into the unit may be different forvarious installations. Cable length, routing and shield termination are veryimportant and can mean the difference between a successful or a troublesomeinstallation. Listed below are some EMC guidelines for successful installation inan industrial environment.

1. Use shielded (screened) cables for all Signal and Control inputs. The shield(screen) pigtail connection should be made as short as possible. Theconnection point for the shield depends somewhat upon the application.Listed below are the recommended methods of connecting the shield, in orderof their effectiveness.a. Connect the shield only at the panel where the unit is mounted to earth

ground (protective earth).b. Connect the shield to earth ground at both ends of the cable, usually when

the noise source frequency is above 1 MHz.2. Never run Signal or Control cables in the same conduit or raceway with AC

power lines, conductors feeding motors, solenoids, SCR controls, andheaters, etc. The cables should be run in metal conduit that is properlygrounded. This is especially useful in applications where cable runs are longand portable two-way radios are used in close proximity or if the installationis near a commercial radio transmitter.

3. Signal or Control cables within an enclosure should be routed as far away aspossible from contactors, control relays, transformers, and other noisycomponents.

4. In extremely high EMI environments, the use of external EMI suppressiondevices, such as ferrite suppression cores, is effective. Install them on Signaland Control cables as close to the unit as possible. Loop the cable through thecore several times or use multiple cores on each cable for additionalprotection. The following EMI suppression devices (or equivalent) arerecommended:Ferrite Suppression Cores for signal and control cables:

Fair-Rite # 0443167251 (RLC #FCOR0000)TDK # ZCAT3035-1330ASteward #28B2029-0A0

5. Long cable runs are more susceptible to EMI pickup than short cable runs. Therefore, keep cable runs as short as possible.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS & INPUTSAll conductors should meet voltage and current ratings for each terminal.

Also, cabling should conform to appropriate standards of good installation, local codes and regulations. It is recommended that voltage connections to theunit be protected by a fuse or circuit breaker.

The CUB3T’s can be supplied with input signals from mechanical switchcontacts or solid-state switches as shown in the diagrams below. Reed switches,mercury-wetted contacts, snap-action limit switches, and silver alloy contactswith wiping action are usually satisfactory choices for mechanical switch input.Heavy “clapper-type” contacts such as used in contactors or large machine toolrelays, tungsten contacts, or brush type contacts are not recommended for thelow level switching used by the input to the timer.

To avoid injury to personnel or equipment, properly isolate all unused wires. For example, wire nuts, closed end splices, or other types of wire terminatorsshould be used.Warning: Connecting voltage to contact or reset inputs will cause damage to

the unit.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONSAn equipment rental company charges customers by the hour for the

rental of forktrucks or other heavy equipment. To help determine theamount of actual run time, a CUB3T300 is connected to a spare set ofcontacts on the ignition switch of the forktruck. When the switch is in the“RUN” position, the “Orn/Wht” and “White” leads of the CUB3T3 areconnected, which cause it to accumulate time in hours on the display. Therental company simply resets the CUB3T3 by momentarily closing theconnection between the “Orn/Wht” and “Blue” leads before each rentalperiod. The normally open “REMOTE RESET” push-button (installed bythe rental company) is protected to prevent tampering by the customer.

A machine shop manager charges customers for machine time by thehour. He is also interested in tracking machine run time vs. down time. ACUB3T310 connected across the 115 VAC spindle motor of a drill presswill serve both purposes. A reading taken before and after each job willindicate the actual machine run time in tenth hour increments. A reading atthe beginning and end of each shift will indicate total run time, allowing themanager to evaluate production efficiency and down time.

Warning: Any lead may be at hazardous live input potential.External wiring and devices connected to the unit must be rated thesame as applied signal input voltage and be properly isolated fromClass 2 or SELV circuitry.

WARNING: Lithium battery may explode if incinerated. Inputvoltage must not exceed 3.0 VDC on contact input ormaximum rated voltage on voltage input to preventdamage to the unit.

Installation EnvironmentThe unit should be installed in a location that does not exceed the maximum

operating temperature and provides good air circulation. Placing the unit neardevices that generate excessive heat should be avoided.

The bezel should be cleaned only with a neutral soap product applied to asoft damp cloth. Do NOT use solvents.

Continuous exposure to direct sunlight may accelerate the aging process ofthe display.

Do not use tools of any kind (screwdriver, pens, pencils, etc.) to operate thereset button of this unit.
