At an immediate glance the Xbox is much bigger than the Playstation 4, when measured the playstation measures at 10.8 X 12 X 2 where as the Xbox One measures at 13.5 X 10.4 X 3.2, making it a much larger console. In terms of price the Xbox one is the more expensive console, by a total of $100. The Xbox One is $499.99 where as the Play station is $499.99. The two consoles also differ in terms of release date. The Xbox has one worldwide release of November 22nd, the play station has two separate dates, one on the 15th of November just for the USA and another one on the 29th November Europe/Australia. Where as Xbox may have a slightly bigger impact and have therefore opted for one worldwide release date.

Games.

The PS4 has only two games coming out on the launch date, compared to the Xbox One’s 6 games. The PS4 also has a lot more digital downloadable games, where as the Xbox only has very few.

Graphics.

From looking at the videos supplied on the IGN website which has the two consoles screens, there was little to no difference in most scenes. In a few scenes the Xbox one’s graphics seemed to be a little more contrasted, and a bit more defined.

System Software.

Both the Xbox One and the PS4 now integrate a paid subscription to play online Multiplayer, this only used to be the case with the Xbox 360 as the PS3 had free online play. Both console’s have game DVR - but the Xbox needs a subscription to use the game DVR. When released both consoles need an update, these updates are different sizes on each console, the Xbox One’s update is 500MB and the PS4’s is 300MB. Both consoles also have cloud storage, but the main difference is that the Xbox has unlimited space for each user, where as the PS4 has a 3GB limit per user. The PS4 allows you to have 2,000 friends per account, but the Xbox only allows 1,000. Finally we get on to the boot up time for each of the consoles, the Xbox One takes only 17 seconds to start up from shutdown. The PS4 takes nearly twice as long and takes 30 seconds to be usable from shutdown.

Extras.

In terms of extras the PS4 has a little more than the Xbox One. The PS4’s extras include, Vita remote play, where the player can be playing a game on their PS4, pause the game, then continue play on the PSVITA. The PS4 also has the Playstation App, this is for IOS and Android. The app allows the player a second screen function, for example in ‘The Playroom’ users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens then flick the toward the screen which will then appear as a 3D object in the game. The PS4 also has Motion Control, the ‘PlayStation Move’ wand from the PS3 works with the PS4 and with the PS4 camera (will be mentioned later in this paragraph.) which tracks the players position.

! The extras from the Xbox One consist of the ‘Xbox Smartglass’ which is said to be 3 times faster than the Xbox 360 version of the app. The app gives the player a lots of options to play around with, you can request the app to give you help with the game you’re playing (e.g hints & tips), look at your achievements, record gameplay, adjust settings, and many more.

! Both consoles have a camera device which is plugged in. The Xbox One’s ‘Kinect 2.0’ is included when you buy the console, where as the PS4’s camera will cost you $59.99, the PS4’s camera dimensions are 7.32 x 1.06 x 1.06 inches. The Xbox One’s Kinect dimensions are 9.8 x 2.6 x 2.63 inches. There is a huge weight difference between the two cameras, the PS4’s weighs 6.4 ounces, and the Xbox’s weight 26.4 ounces. The cable length for each camera is Xbox = 9.5ft PS4 = 6.5ft. The big difference between these two cameras is the resoloution, the PS4 can only shoot in 720p compared the the Xbox One’s 1080p. Both cameras have a 4-Channel Array for the microphones. both have voice commands and facial recognition.
