Introduction of Squid Proxy Server

1. Proxy servers are softwareapplications that run on yourfirewall machine in order toprovide indirect Internetaccess to your network.

2. Squid is a caching proxy serverwhich improves the bandwidthand the response time bycaching the recently requested

web pages.

3. In Linux, Squid is the packageused as proxy server.



Advantages of squid Proxy Server

1. The client applications speakdirectly to the proxy serverand the proxy server in turnspeaks directly to the Internethosts on behalf of the client.

2. We can able to allow or restrictthe web addresses to be usedby the clients.

3. Good sites can be made

allowed and bad sites can berestricted.

4. This is the reason forconfiguring proxy server.



Goals of squid Proxy Server In Comapny

1. Two important goals of many small businessesare to:

1. Reduce Internetbandwidth charges

2. Limit access to theWeb to onlyauthorized users.

Configuration Information of Squid Prxoy

PACKAGE REQUIRED: #squid

DAEMON: /usr/sbin/squid

SCRIPT: /etc/init.d/squid

PORT: 3128 ( squid ), (configurable)

CONFIGURATION:/etc/squid/squid.conf

SERVICE: service squid restart

installed or not.



Open the squid

configuration file.
