• Mount cameras as high as reasonably possible,to minimise “stretching” of distant vertical objects

• For on-highway vehicles, cameras should bemounted above 2000 mm

• Ensure enough overlap between neighbouringcameras of > 2 m

• Avoid positions where a nearby object is in the• Avoid positions where a nearby object is in thecamera’s view

• Locate camera on rigid structure, not onmoveable or vibrating structure

Measuring the camera position

• Once the camera mounting is finished, the vehicle datum must be found

• For calibration, the position of cameras has to bemeasured with respect to the vehicle datum

• Datum is where X, Y and Z are 0 mm

• The axes are defined so:

• X axis is the vehicle centerline (+ to rear)• X axis is the vehicle centerline (+ to rear)

• Y axis is parallel to the front (+ to right)

• Z axis is height off the ground (+ above ground)

ProViu ® ASL 360

Measuring the camera position

• Datum is between front wheels on the ground

• Measurements are done to the camera´s lens

• Pay attention to correct sign!

• Useful resource is a plummet

• Measurement precision recommended:

Grid for Camera Calibration

ProViu ® ASL 360

• Purpose of the grid is to establish the

precise orientation of the cameras

• The grid pattern is consisting of 10 lines

• Lines XA, XB, XC, XD must all be parallel

• Also lines YA, YB, YC, YD, YE and YF

• Distance between two line paires: • Distance between two line paires:

min. 1500 - 2000 mm

• Deviation over line lenght < 10 mm

Aligning the

ProViu ® ASL 360

• Align the vehicle centric on the grid

• Important is, that each camera can see “its” portion of the grid (lines) in itsentirety

• Cameras must see following lines:

• Front: YA, YB and XA, XB, XC, XD• Left: XC, XD and YB, YC, YD, YE• Rear: YE, YF and XA, XB, XC, XD
