Do Angels really exist?

That’s the big question in Wonders Never Cease. A recent survey by the Pew Forum found that 68 percent of Americans say they do believe in angels. To be more precise, they either “completely agree” or “mostly agree” that angels (and demons) are active in this world. One woman responding to

the survey said, “I would like to believe that there are angels. I like the idea that there are people watching over us.” One man said, “Everyone has a guardian angel, whether they believe it or not.” And still another said, “I have to say that I haven’t seen one yet so I wouldn’t believe in one until I did see one.”

What exactly are angels anyway? Emissaries from heaven who bring comfort and give hope? Do they really play a part in people’s lives?

It’s a big universe out there, and there’s a lot of stuff that happens to us that we can’t explain. There are coincidences that we’re willing to chalk up to coincidence, but there’s even more that we are not, because we have this feeling that it was something else.

Of course, there are those who think angels are as real as the Easter Bunny. But there’s no denying that we have a long history with these winged creatures - real or imagined. The very word “angel” comes from the Greek word for messenger. There are angels in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and winged figures in Buddhism and Hinduism. In pop culture, angels tend to be the “guardian” variety. The most famous movie angel is probably Clarence from “It’s a Wonderful Life”, who earned his wings helping out George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart.

Still, the very idea of angels can serve to inspire even some of us less halo-worthy creatures here on Earth. Take the “angel trees,” a holiday tradition for the Salvation Army. Written on each tag is the name of a needy child–and a wish–so folks can buy a gift, and (in a sense) become angels themselves.

Whenever I find people who inspire me and people who motivate me and people who comfort me, I’m touching an angel in some way, or being “Touched By an Angel” as the TV show from 1994-2003 said. I think angels occur in your life as frequently as you want to look for them.

So, perhaps it’s a good thing to celebrate angels, whatever form they take.

Katherine Banks (Natalie) is thrilled to be working once again with Provision Theater and Tim Gregory, having performed in Provision’s A Christmas Carol in 2005 and 2006.

Other theatre credits include: Leaving Iowa (Fox Valley Repertory & The Royal George), The Real Thing (Illinois Theatre Center), The Comedy of Errors (Oak Park Festival Theater), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Metropolis Performing Arts Centre), The Awesome 80’s Prom (Davenport Theatricals), and Tent Meeting (Circle Theatre). Katherine is passionate about theatre for young audiences and currently serves as the company manager and an ensemble member of Shakespeare: Scenes, Sonnets, and Songs with the Oak Park Festival Theater. You can also hear her voice on television, radio, and internet commercials. She is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and the School at Steppenwolf. Katherine dedicates her performance to her late mother, Maureen, a compassionate nurse who became a wonderful guardian angel.

Holly Bittinger (Liv Hayden) is thrilled to be making her debut at Provision. She was most recently seen in Equus at Redtwist Theatre. A graduate of Emerson College’s BFA

program, she originally hails from Milwaukee, WI. Holly is currently enrolled in The Second City Conservatory.

Sean Bolger (Tino Gambati) is excited to be working with Provision Theater for the first time. Last seen in Theater Mir’s Caucasian Chalk Circle, Sean’s worked with

numerous Chicago theatres including Steppenwolf, Lookingglass, A Red Orchid, Seanachai, Noble Fool, Steep, Griffin, WildClaw, Sinnerman, and The Side Project (where he is an artistic associate).

A graduate of The School at Steppenwolf, his next project is Eclipse Theatre’s The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek. Sean thanks Gray Talent for their continued hard work and support.

JoBe Cerny (Morty Biederman) This is JoBe’s first performance with Provision Theater. He spent the last three years directing over 600 actors from

around the world in The Word of Promise Audio Bible, which was nominated for the 2010 Audio Book of the Year. JoBe’s Chicago theatre credits include Play It Again Sam, The Man Who Came To Dinner, and the original production casts of Repete With Madeline, The Magic Man, and Funeral March For A One Man Band. He is also an alumnus of The Second City. He writes, directs, and acts in many of the nationally syndicated Twilight Zone Radio Dramas. His most recent film role is in the soon to be released Things Fall Apart. JoBe is best known as The Voice of the Pillsbury Doughboy and the silent spokesman for Cheer Detergent which won a Golden Lion at Cannes International Film Festival.

Anna Dynarski (Annie) is excited to be making her Provision debut! Chicago theater credits include, American Psyche or a Breath of Fresh Care and Borderline

Apologetic (Honest Productions). Other credits include, Milosevic at the Hague (Serious Play!, Northampton, MA), Almost, Maine and Ondine (Amherst, MA) Chester Theater Company Showcase for Young Playwrights (Chester, MA), as well as performing in various scenes from plays such as Dinner with Friends, Cripple of Inishmaan, An Ideal Husband, Curse of the Starving Class. Dane Halvorson (Understudy) is happy to return to Provision Theater. He last appeared at Provision with The Hiding Place. Other recent credits include McMeekin

Finds Out with the Route 66 Theater Company, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead at Writers’ Theater, The Comedy of Errors and Edward the II at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Dane is a recent graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Dane would like to thank his family and parents for their love and support, and to Kaitlyn for all the smiles.

Caroline Heffernan (Leah) makes her Provision Theatre debut. Other theatrical credits include Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird (Steppenwolf Theatre) and Jenny in Rhymes

with Evil (Infusion Theatre). Caroline won a judges’ acting award for her role as Girl in Astronomy for Beginners (Collaboraction) and spent two seasons at the Goodman Theatre playing Emily Cratchit/Want in A Christmas Carol. She has also been featured in commercials for Flintstones Vitamins, Kellogg’s Eggo Waffles and Best Bank/Guaranty Bank. Caroline placed first in beam, floor exercise, vault and all around gymnast in the Chicago Park District’s North Region. She is a 5th grader at Norwood Park Elementary in Chicago.

Ryan Kitley (Kemp McAvoy) is excited to be a part of this wonderful production with Provision Theatre. Most recently, Ryan understudied and performed many times

in Travels with my Aunt at Writers’ Theatre. Chicago and LA theater credits include major roles at Organic Theatre, Shattered

Globe, Matrix Theater, Colony Theater, Mercury Theatre, CST, Goodman Theatre, Piven Theatre, Meadow Brook Theatre, among others. Awards include Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Best Ensemble, Non-Equity Jeff Award, Shattered Globe) and The Big Funk (Best Supporting Actor, Non-Equity Jeff Nomination, Clock Productions). Film and television credits include Detroit 1-8-7, Turks, Early Edition, Miss March, San Gabriel, Dream Slashers, Soul Survivors, Barbershop II, Heart of the Matter, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. As a voice-over artist, Ryan recently voiced numerous characters for Lucas Arts Productions. Ryan is a member of SAG, AFTRA, and AEA, with his MFA from DePaul. Thanks to Tim, Gray Talent, and my family!

Matt Klingler (Matt Calahan) is thrilled to be making his Provisions debut. Theater credits include: The Grapes of Wrath (Infamous Commonwealth);

Columbinus (Raven Theatre); Storybox (CIF Productions/Piven Theatre); and Trust (Lookingglass Theatre - u/s). Matt can also been seen and heard in various television and online commercial spots. A native of St. Louis, MO, Matt is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory program and holds a BA in Theatre from Lindenwood University.

Mike Rogalski (Armantrout) has appeared in a number of Chicago-area productions, including work with SiNNERMAN Ensemble, Stage Left Theater, Victory

Gardens Theater, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater. He played the roles of Mr. Kan and Mr. Smit in Provision Theater’s The Hiding Place and appeared as Mr. Klemper in the company’s production of The Boys Next Door. He is very happy to be performing again with Tim & Co. and through his work tonight wishes to extend a thank-you to his

Danielle White (Shanice/Mrs. Kibali) is blessed to be making her debut with Provision Theater. Graduating with a BFA-Acting degree from Northern Illinois

University, Danielle hopes to have a successful career in Chicago. Previous credits include, Blue Blood for Prologue Theatre, a short film entitled, “Hers. Theirs. Ours”, and The Exonerated (Georgia). In addition to acting, Danielle enjoys playwriting and hopes to someday see her work performed. Special thanks to my beautiful family for giving wings to my dreams and encouraging their flight.

Frederick Paul Williams (Emmet) Finally giving in to his passion, Frederick Paul Williams got to work and began taking instruction for acting just two years

ago. Since then, he has appeared in several independent film projects and

continues to work at his craft. “It was just a matter of time...”, says Frederick, since entertainment has been a big part of his life for quite some time. Stand-up comedy, On-Air Radio Personality, and accomplished Voice-Over actor are some of his achievements. “There is no feeling like living through your gifts and talents”, he states. This is Frederick’s theatre debut.

Michael Wollner (Wes Kalamar) is glad to be performing at provision for the 1st time. Michael received his MFA in Theatre from DePaul’s Goodman school of

Drama in 1998 and has been steadily working since then. Mostly in commercial work including spots for McDonalds, Accurate Auto Ins, Kellogg’s Raisin Bran Crunch, St. Farm Ins, Zaxby’s, IL Lotto and many others. Some of his favorite roles are Sean in Tell me about Ireland (Talisman Theatre), Red in Coyote Ugly, and 9 different roles in one production of On the Verge (Borealis Theatre), and any opportunity he gets to play with his improv troupe around Chicagoland. He is glad to be back in live theatre after taking a break to bring his two daughters into the world. They bring me joy every day.

Tim Gregory (Playwright/Director) is the Founding Artistic Director of Provision Theater. Recently at Provision, he has directed productions of Shadowlands, Sanders Family Christmas and Godspell. Other Provision Theater directing credits include the Jefferson Award–Nominated productions of Shadowlands, The Hiding Place, C.S. Lewis On Stage, The Spitfire Grill, A Christmas Carol, Beast on the Moon and A Christmas Memory & The Thanksgiving Visitor. Other directing credits include The Comedy of Errors at Chicago Shakespeare Theater; Welcome, Yule! at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra: A Christmas Carol at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera; Treasure Island and Alice in Wonderland at Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre; The Twilight of the Golds, The Diary of Anne Frank and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry at the Apple Tree Theatre; Plaza Suite at the Lyric Theatre; and ’Dentity Crisis at the Studio Theatre. Inseung Park (Scenic Designer) is pleased to join the World premiere production, Wonders Never Cease. He designed the set for Provision Theatre Company production, The Hiding Place and as his Chicago debut in 2010, which was nominated for Jeff Award in Scene design - midsize. His design credits for Provision Theatre Company include Godspell, Sanders Family Christmas, and Shadowlands. Other Chicago credit includes Overshadowed Theatrical Production’s Shadowlands. He has designed numerous shows at Indiana University South Bend including West Side Story, After Juliet, and Midsummer Night’s Dream. Other credits include South Bend Civic Theatre’s Grease and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and Springs Awakening at Looking Glass theatre in

New York. One of his designs in film, Wake was awarded a grand prize in 2004 Kodak competition, and screened internationally including Cannes International Film Festival, Cinema Texas International Film Festival, Arizona International Film Festival, Seoul Net Festival in 2005. He holds MFA in Scene design at University of Texas Austin. He loves to dedicate this work to his family.

Isaac B. Turner (Resident Costume Designer) is in his second season with Provision, having designed Shadowlands, Cotton Patch Gospel, and The Hiding Place. A Cincinnati native, Isaac relocated to Chicago five years ago. In Cincinnati, Isaac served as Production Manager for The Children’s Theatre, Designer for Costume Gallery in Newport, and Producer for Monmouth Theatre. Having worked across the country in New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas and Alaska, Isaac’s local work includes the Lyric Opera, River North Dance Company, Northlight Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Writers’ Theater, and Chicago Symphony. Other theatre credits include Performance, Directing, Stage Management and Writing. This design is dedicated to the memory of his mother, whose love still inspires him to never give up. Adam Smith (Sound Designer) is a freelance sound designer/music maker from Maine, currently residing here in Chicago. Previously he has worked with Stage Left (Kingsville, Here Where it’s Safe, Leapfest (2009) and The Day of Knowledge) as well as various theatres in the Chicago area including The Artistic Home, Eclipse Theatre and Apple Tree Theatre, amongst others. Mr. Smith will also be returning to the wilds of Eastern Kentucky this summer to design at Jenny Wiley Theatre for his second summer. He is a founding member of Off Target Productions and LBK Productions.

Jim Poole (Video and Projections Director) is delighted to be returning to Provision and this wonder-filled production. Jim had the privilege of directing Provision’s first production, Cotton Patch Gospel. As a filmmaker, Jim has created and directed a variety of corporate and artistic films, documentaries and video. As an actor, he has been featured in front of the camera and on stage in several Chicago theaters and is an ensemble member of Steep Theatre. As a voice talent, you may have heard Jim on the radio or as the voice of Scooter in Big Idea’s VeggieTales.

John Gedeon, Jr. (Technical Director) holds a BFA in Technical Direction from Ohio University. His technical direction credits include productions of MacBeth, The Tempest, Blue Surge, On Naked Soil, and

he technical directed Monomoy Theater Company’s 2009 Season. John has worked with Ohio Valley Summer Theater in 2007 and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in 2008. Since moving to Chicago, John has worked for the Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences, Greene Tree Productions, Stage Left, and as Technical Director for Provision Theater Company. John owes his success to the support of his wonderful family, amazing sister, Britney, and beautiful girlfriend, Samantha.

Joe Dybdal (Assistant Technical Director/Props Designer) is excited to be a part of his sixth Provision Theater Company production. He also worked with Provision on Shadowlands (Props), Sander’s Family Christmas (Props), The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! (Stage/Production Manager/Props), Godspell (Sound Operator), and The Hiding Place (Sound Operator); he also served as a carpenter for all of the above productions. He was on the Set Construction Crew for Kingsville with Stage Left, Carmilla with WildClaw Theatre, Phantom of the Opera with North Central College, Spoon River with Judson College, as well as various projects at the Marriott Theater and Christian Youth Theater. In addition to his technical experience, Joe is a certified Stunt Performer from The International Stunt School in Seattle, WA. He hopes you sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Matthew McMullen (Production Stage Manager) is excited to be stage managing again at Provision Theatre Company! Recently, Matthew has completed work as Production Stage Manager on Provision’s productions of Shadowlands, Sanders Family Christmas and Godspell. He also works as a freelance technician for various companies around Chicago, including PRG, Freeman A/V, and Harpo Studios. Matthew has completed two tours of North America as an Assistant Electrician with Disney on Ice and has worked backstage at the Marriott Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, as well as stage-managing at the Huron Playhouse, an Ohio summer theatre where he met his incredible fiancée, Missy. Matthew is a proud member of AEA.

Provision Theater Presents


PRODUCTION STAFF B IOS (c o n t.)

Jordan Danz (Production Manager) is excited to be working with Provision on his third production; he just finished production managing Shadowlands and Sanders Family Christmas. Before that, he production managed Trans Form with New Suit Theatre Company. He recently assistant stage managed The Raven Theatre’s Jeff Award Winning production of Twelve Angry Men and assistant directed Village Players’ production of Savage In Limbo. Jordan is a graduate of Catawba College with a BA in theatre arts. He would like to thank his family and friends for all their support.

Rebecca Cagney (Assistant Stage Manager) is a recent graduate from the University of Wyoming with a degree in theatre. Stage management shows at UW include Into the Woods, Hamlet, The “M” Word and Gianni Schicchi. In addition to stage management work, she has also done prop design for Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Mani in the Flying Lawn Chair and Seussical. Show crew credits include The Nutcracker Ballet, Sexual Perversity in Chicago and Chorus Line. Costume crew credits include Uncle Vanya and Fire and Ice Pink and Blue. Rebecca spent this last summer working as prop master and stage manager at Theatre West in Scottsbluff, NE. Previous Chicago work has been Low Pay Don’t Pay at the Piccolo Theatre and Sanders Family Christmas here at Provision. Rebecca would like to thank her family for their continued support. She is looking forward to Wonders Never Cease and hopes you enjoy the show.

Chris Conley (Script Consultant/Assistant Director) is very happy to be working with Provision again. Most recently, she directed the premiere of The Last Word, co-written with Kevin Sheehan, at Gorilla Tango Theatre. She has appeared

in productions with Collaboraction (Sketchbook X), VPT, Theatre Building Chicago, Ouroboros, New Leaf Theatre, and Light Opera Works. Directing credits include New Plays Festivals 3 & 4 with Circle Theatre, and 1940’s Radio Hour, Enchanted April, Nunsense: The Mega-Musical, and co-direction of Wait Until Dark with the Huron Playhouse in Ohio. She has written one-acts staged by the Stockyards Theatre Project and n.u.f.a.n. ensemble in Chicago, as well as Impact Theatre (Brooklyn, NY), and The Vagabond Acting Troupe (Philadelphia, PA). She was a Heideman Award finalist through the Actors Theatre of Louisville National Ten-Minute Play Contest, is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, and a temporarily disappointed Steelers fan.

Liz Meenan (Assistant Costume Designer) is really excited and blessed to be apart of her second production here at Provision! She is currently a senior at Columbia College Chicago studying costume design. After working on Shadowlands at Provision she knew she wanted to continue working as a part of this big theatre family and would like to thank all of them as well as her biological family for supporting her to this point in her life today.

Devin Carroll (Assistant Lighting Designer/Master Electrician) is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, receiving his BFA in Lighting Design. His recent credits include Lighting Design forMacbeth at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and The 1st Celestial Adventures of Mr. Antipyrine at the Armory Free Theatre. In Chicago, he has designed for the world premiere of A Son at the Front at the Atheneum Theatre.
