Facility Tour: A tour of the Sutherland site is a fantastic experience for any learner and will entail a visit to SALT as well as a walk through the visitor centre which contains models and explanations of various astronomical phenomena. Educator Workshop on how to write science press- releases (by Christina Scott). We find that there is much negative publicity about activities at school usually violence and drug related. It is our intention to equip educators with skills and information on how to write a press-release about positive happenings in the school and have them published in local newspapers, thereby creating positive publicity for the school. It is hoped that the department of Education will advertise this workshop amongst the schools. We will have place for ~150 educators. They will be given templates which will assist them greatly. Educators’ Workshop: A special teachers’ workshop will be held for Grade 10-12 teachers in Cape Town on Saturday the 19th May which will target both Western Cape and Northern Cape teachers (30 from WC and 10 from NC). The workshop programme will be as follows: 10:00 Introduction to the concept and relevance of indigenous knowledge systems (specifically related to astronomy); 10:30 Talk by local astronomer; 11:00 Workshop to produce IKS materials; 12:00 Lunch 13:00 Discussion 20:00 Telescope viewing during a special open night
