Message from the Chair

Dear Business Leader,

I am honored to serve as your 2016-2017 Chair of the Board of Directors for the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, formerly the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.

In 2016, we transitioned from the Fairfax Chamber to the Northern Virginia Chamber to reflect the regional role the Chamber had been fulfilling. Building upon its rich history with over 90 years in business, the Northern Virginia Chamber will continue to be the Voice of Business in Northern Virginia™.

The Northern Virginia Chamber is the preeminent membership organization in the region for businesses to grow through relationship building with stakeholders and engagement in partnerships throughout the Metropolitan Washington Region.

Representing local employers with more than 500,000 regional employees, the Northern Virginia Chamber is the region’s leading voice for business advocacy, thought leadership, business development opportunities and key community partnerships.

I encourage you to use the Northern Virginia Chamber as a means of developing relationships and participating in dialogue on issues key to our regional business community. This is not just a place for one person from your company – there’s a place in the Chamber for everyone from your business. I encourage you to commit to making the most of your Northern Virginia Chamber membership.

While the last few decades of economic growth serve as a strong foundation for the future, as a region we must continue to evolve to compete and thrive. We must rally together to overcome obstacles to our success. Our goal in the coming year will be to attract new, diverse voices to join us in helping to build the future of this organization and this region.

I look forward to working with you and your business to ensure Northern Virginia remains one of the best places in the nation to do business.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Aument

In 2015, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Executive Committee went through a strategic planning process to complete the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan. This plan determined that the Fairfax Chamber should take on a more regional role.

In November 2015, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to rebrand and restructure to the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

The Northern Virginia Chamber is an answer to the call from businesses and political leaders for a regional business voice and more accurately reflects a role the Fairfax Chamber had fulfilled for quite some time.

In January 2016, the new Northern Virginia Chamber brand was unveiled and the Chamber officially began its regional operations.

The Northern Virginia Chamber leads the region in advancing innovative solutions to key priorities in transportation, education, workforce, economic advancement, and balanced regulation.

Representing nearly 700 member companies, which in total employ more than 500,000 regional employees, the Northern Virginia Chamber is the region’s leading voice for business advocacy, thought leadership, business development opportunities and key community partnerships.

Because of the magnitude of business volume that occurs on a daily basis in our region, innovation is inherent to our culture. But what defines innovation? Innovation can take the form of: new-to-market offerings; breakthrough solutions addressing complex business or societal problems; or a revolutionary approach to a problem that drastically improves the efficiency and effectiveness of one business or our business community as a whole. The Greater Washington Innovation Awards celebrate the people and organizations who introduce new methods, ideas and products to improve our lives and challenge the status quo. Their innovations create new consumers and markets, and ultimately transform the way we do business.
